The C-130 could heavy drop an M-551 Sheridan and ramp jump the 4 man crew after the heavy drop was gone. I know, I did it as a 2Lt platoon leader, tank commander. Love the C-130, have 40 jumps out of the airframe.
I was always afraid of getting tangled up in all the webbing and junk from the seats inside the 130 - But glad you guys ran tight ships otherwise - never felt like I was going to die though.
Have to admit, I do miss it. Was never on a heavy equipment drop, was with 10th SFG. Our idea of heavy equipment was an entrenching tool and a ruck. No vehicles.
10 jumpers? I'd like to bend your ear. We'd do mass exodus. Was it 84+ jumpers? I don't remember. We were the mighty 39th Airlift Squadron. Such a great group of guys
I was a C-130 roadmaster. That's prolly the most missed thing of being in the USAF. Heavy equipment extraction is something you never get tired of watching🇺🇸
I was 82nd airborne rigger, rode with loads couple times and watched the deployment, one was Lapes drop where your barely off the ground when it comes out the back, was in 74-77 407th
I never got to jump out of one of these. I was in a sport parachute club in Germany. Jumped out of Huey’s and Chinooks. Later in the civilian world I went out of Twin Otters.
Those people who worry about the strength of a parasail for a tuk-tuk should use the construction method and mathematics formulae used for humvee, light armoured vehicles, ... to design their parasails

Not sure what A. Mathis is talking about. We never did LAPES while I was in. They discontinued it before I was a 130 Load and I got out in 2003. Heavy equipment is where it's at!!!

Brings back many memories . Nothing like doing combat drop at 500 feet with small arms poking holes in plane
I miss flying combat sorties. Life is too boring now.
Fantastic
Been there......done that....got the T-shirt (and a bruise or two)......!
Hollywood jumps were always fun and easy.
this is badass thanks for showin us!
Used to be a rigger before I retired and never had a chance to watch the load go out from inside of the aircraft.

When I was a loadmaster on C-130s 1965-1969 you could only drop 10 Personnel of the ramp and door due to shute bag rotation.
Oh wow, now we can drop 20 tailgating troops
Seems funny!

Good pix. Some give real sense of platform exit speed. Slo-mo is deceptive. (Ex-Loadmaster).

Have a question Does the AF still do LAPES drops ?
I know that they did when I retired in 2012. They would need to find a replacement if they stopped LAPES.
@@a.mathis9454 Thanks for answer
