No right minded person would tune to drop F on a 6 string. Thats insane. Just get a 7 or an 8 and dont put your guitar through that Hell. You'd need a baritone and like .14 gauge strings to handle that, and even then you'd be adjusting your poor truss rod...poor poor truss rod. -shudder-. All those PROGRESSIVE METAL (Not fucking djent) bands use either 7s, 8s, or 9s when tuning that low.

Leonard Crainie It's like that with most squier vs. fender guitars, fenders generally are overpriced :( The only major difference between a squier and a fender is their pickups & electronics. I know I’m 7 years late!! If anyone gets the current squire cv bass vi I would recommend making a few mods. 1. Kluson vintage tuners keep mine in tune way better than the stock tuners. 2. The staytrem wide bridge makes intonation so much easier. 3. I would get some beefier strings as the stock ones on the squire aren’t thick enough imo and you lose some low end on the low E and A (newtone strings in Derbyshire do a great .024-.100 set which imo is better than the labella set)

instructables Fender Squier Bass VI Fixing tone.
That guy was spot on on everything except changing the strings which really is about whether you want it to be more like a bass , or more like a guitar. the strings are specifically chose to straddle the area. The rest of that instructable is pure gold.
If you do want to use it for extreme metal , I have bought and installed the Warman Twin Loco Hot Rail Humbucking pickup for the bridge which has pretty much doubled the output power and drives a distortion nicely without having to carve out a hole for a full size humbucker, or make the expensive leap to actives, it's just a nice straight swap. and at just £18 you can't go wrong!

Gigged with it this last Friday playing in a blues/heavy rock power trio and was coming up with all sorts of cool psychedelic tonage especially when adding just a bit of overdrive! Not much more than $400 out the door (Including taxes, gig bag, and new strap and a couple other small items) here in the U.S. There is no excuse NOT to get one of these!

These are really too short scale to be tuned to bass-E - you need a 34" scale to make that work. They're more like long-scale baritones. Bring them up to G or A or something like that, they'd make more sense. The trem seems pretty clunky - if there was either a hardtail version or a Strat/Floyd/Wilkinson trem option, that might make more sense.

Yeah, the tone will be different but you can run it through either. Or you can pick an amp like a Fender Bassman that is favored by both guitarists and bassist. I’d maybe worry about a guitar amp at high volume, but I think these pickups are more guitar style.

He would tell you as I will that all mine sound really differently, and sometimes you just don't want to bring a vintage $10 to 20k+ "guitar" on stage and have its reissue instead. Given the value of some Bass VI (vintage pre-CBS custom colours ones), it's just a question of cautiousness. This Squier is just the best idea FMIC have had in the past 10 years...

A good speaker won't be blown up by a Bass VI, a bad one might be. But I never heard any story of broken speaker using this instrument. After all, if you fear so, engage the strangle switch and you're safe (I never use it).
