43:06 basically the ‘love thing’ is an enchantment given to Harry by his mom. His mom sacrificed herself for Harry which made it impossible for Voldemort to touch/attack him, the love sacrifice acts as a shield until Harry becomes an adult. That love is the reason he is “the boy who lived” because Voldemort couldn’t kill him

Hermione took the blame because she knew the teachers wouldn't react as harshly towards her than they would Ron & Harry. By this time it's Halloween and they've been on campus for 3 months. she's worked up good favor with the professors, sans Snape, so her taking the blame wouldn't cost too many house points. Hermione taking the blame for Harry and Ron actually cemented their friendship. The teachers favored her, she was the brightest in their class and a bit of a kiss up (with love lol), so she knew they wouldn't react as harshly to her as they would Ron and Harry. It was her way of thanking them and showing them she had their back too.

(Non-spoiler) answers to some of your questions/comments made in the video:
    - Ah, so the one you've seen is the next one, Chamber of Secrets :)
    - When it comes to Harry's scar, as a child he actually really liked his scar; it made him unique in his eyes, and he didn't realise how he'd gotten it so he didn't connect it with Voldemort (and, therefore, an evil curse). Once he realised where it came from and realised how recognisable it made him in the wizarding world, he grew to dislike it and took to trying to hide it more often.
    - Ah, the Dursleys. Harry lives under the stairs and does stuff like cooking the breakfast because the Dursleys are abusive and fear magic (him cooking breakfast doesn't make them abusive - he's 10 going on 11, it's fine to teach him how to cook some things, preferably with supervision - but it's their attitude, and the fact that he's been cooking for them since he was very young). And they do a lot more than what I mentioned. Their treatment of Dudley is also abusive, frankly, by spoiling him and allowing him everything he wants; his behaviour is all his parents' fault.
    - Vernon wanting them to leave, not wanting Harry to go to Hogwarts, isn't only because he's trying to spite Harry; it also stems from his fear of magic. If Harry goes and learns magic, he could potentially use it against them.
    - The first couple of wands Harry tried did technically work, yes - a witch or wizard can really use any wand, it's just there are specific wands that they'll have more of an affinity with. Which is why when he gets his wand (holly wood, with a phoenix feather core), it starts glowing. The others worked for him, but were unpredictable/imperfect when wielded by him.
    - Yes, that is the question, isn't it - how did Harry survive that night? As Dumbledore later explains, it backfired, the killing spell rebounded off of Harry and hit Voldemort instead, because of his mother's sacrifice. Lily loved her son so much that she gave her life for him, and that in turn protected him.
    - Harry didn't want to go to Slytherin for a couple of reasons. a) Draco's attitude, he didn't want to be in the same house as someone like that, and b) the main one - Ron said earlier that "there wasn't a witch or wizard who went bad that wasn't in Slytherin". This isn't actually true, but Slytherin has gained a . . . reputation, and because of this it is a prejudice that many in the wizarding community have, and that prejudice was passed on to Harry with that comment. Not all Slytherins are bad, and not all evil witches and wizards came from Slytherin.
    - In Hermione's eyes yes, being expelled is worse than being killed. Very like Harry, she grew up in the Muggle world not knowing she was magical, and being bullied at school. She had no friends, she was an outsider. Now, at Hogwarts, she may not have friends (yet), but she has a place she finally fits in, she's magical like everyone else here. She also loves education, and she's at a magical school! How amazing! If she dies at Hogwarts, at least she can choose to come back as a ghost and continue to spend time there; if she's expelled, she can't come back, and she goes back to her Muggle school and becomes "normal", whilst knowing that more is out there.
    - Oh, McGonagall is absolutely fond of Harry, she's just also strict and doesn't take kindly to rule-breaking lol. She's also a MASSIVE Quidditch fan, which is why she was so giddy after seeing Harry catch the Remembrall and informed Wood, and why she was so happy to buy him a broom. She and Snape have been warring Quidditch-wise for YEARS, and Slytherin have won the Quidditch Cup the past like 7 years, so she's excited to have a chance for Gryffindor to finally win again.
    - The Golden Bitch 😂😂😂
    - You're correct, Cerberus is the same breed as Fluffy (the breed is also sometimes referred to as a cerberus, but it's mainly known as simply a 3-headed dog).
    - Each movie takes place over the course of a year (apart from the final 2); Harry is still 11 by the end as his birthday is in July and the students go home for the summer at the end of May/beginning of June.
    - Harry probably walked forward when Quirrell told him to because he's likely very aware that Quirrell is older, more experienced, and more knowledgeable than him when it comes to magic and combat. There's no point trying to run, because he believes Quirrell would easily overpower him. He doesn't want Quirrell to hurt or kill him. That changes when he gets the Stone; he ackowledges that the Stone is very important and valuable, and with all of this stuff in place to protect it, his Gryffindor bravery comes to the surface and he's willing to give his life if it means protecting the Stone from this bad person.
    - Harry was exactly 15 months old (1 year and 3 months) when his parents were killed.

Not sure if anyone else mentioned it, but in the chessboard scene when they first walk in, you can see broken chess pieces around the outside of the board, implying that someone had in fact passed through recently.
And yes, the stone appears in Harry's pocket at that moment, not because he wanted it for himself, but to make sure Voldemort did not have it. It was even mentioned that the previous obstacles were irrelevant because Dumbledore knew his mirror trick would prevent Voldemort from ever getting the stone. The other obstacles were just a test.

    Dumbledore's explanation is many layered.
Quirell couldn't touch Harry because when Lily had thrown herself in between Harry and Voldemort when Voldemort cast a killing curse at Harry, the act of Lily sacrificing her life for his protection was proved her immense love...thereby fulfilling a bond etched on Harry's skin that no amount of evil forces can touch him. It was the reason Voldemort's next killing curse rebounded back to him...as for Quirell...he served as a host to Voldemort thus selling his soul to an evil person, killed and drained a unicorn of it's blood due to which he was cursed and couldn't touch Harry...
About obtaining the stone, Dumbeldore had studied the Mirror of Erised back when he had been a transfiguration teacher in Hogwarts. He encapsuled the stone in the mirror with a condition that the stone will be obtained by the one who's looking for it but has no use whatsoever for it.
But one thing is right, trying to understand Albus Dumbledore is one hell of a task.

McGonagall got Harry the broom because she is a huge quidditch fan, even though she doesn´t openly give it away. After all, she was the one scouting Harry out as a seeker and so she also has expectations for him. At the same time she believes in his potential to become a great seeker. You might notice that she is more than excited to have found a good new addition for the griffendor-team and very happy that she could fill the position of seeker for the team-captain. McGonagall is also (proud) head of Griffondor, so she wants her team to succeed. You can see that on her face when Griffondor actually wins the game, she is the happiest of all people.
Also she is kind of fond of Harry. She was one of the people bringing Harry to the Dursleys and spoke up for him, saying she is not comfortable to leave the boy with such douchebags. She is just a very strict teacher, with a big sense for respect and discipline. That´s why she seems like she doesn´t like Ron or Harry, as they are troublemakers. But actually she wants her students to succeed and be the best they can be.

I don't think people spend enough time investigating the names of the characters. Almost every name is a secret entrance into understanding who that character is. You just have to draw from a number of different sources:
      -Greek/Roman mythology
      -Cultural legends
      -Astronomy
      -Latin/Greek language
      -Victorian Flower Language
      Some examples:
-In Victorian Flower Language 'Lily' means 'purity', while 'Petunia' means 'resentment/anger'
-Greek mythology, 'Argus' was a servant of jealous Hera, whose husband Zeus slept around; he had a hundred eyes, never slept, and was known as 'ever-vigilant', much like Argus Filch who watched for students out of bed
-Professor McGonagall's first name is Minerva, after the Roman goddess of wisdom, art, schools, and justice; the goddess also stood for the civilizing effects of war under the principle of just causes and so also applied strategy
-'Hermione' is the feminine form of 'Hermes', the Greek god who was the messenger of the Olympian gods; Mercury was the Roman equivalent, associated with communication, language, writing (so, books), knowledge, magic, law, travel, and luck
JK Rowling worked on the Harry Potter epic for 17 years, carefully researching and processing all she could find adaptable/adoptable to this 'world'. I'm sure she developed the names very carefully as well. Every person and creature had a foot in historical precedence, with very well considered thought in inclusion.

I'm sure a bunch of people already mentioned this but the "love" Dumbledore is referring to, the one that lives in Harry's very skin, is a special kind of magic. It can only be cast by someone who willingly sacrifices themselves when given the chance to abandon you but instead tries to protect you from the hands of another. It enchants the protected person so that they cannot be touched or harmed by the attacker. Because Voldemort inhabited Quirrel's body, it invoked that magic and caused a backlash which basically killed him. I can name things specifically but this is the best way I can put it.

When you said red card I laugh so hard because Dean in the book is a muggle born and he was yelling "Show him the red card" or something like that and all the kids raised in the wizard world are looking at him like what in the world are you talking about

  • @toodlescae
    @toodlescae Před 11 měsíci +3

Yes a lot of the moves the Slytherins pulled in the Quidditch gane got them penalties in the book. Funny you should holler Red Card because one of Harry's roommates Seamus Finnegan was hollering about a red card in the book. 😂
Harry got presents from Hagrid, Ron's mom and the cloak (never mentioned in the movies that Dumbledore had it when Harry's Dad died.
After you're done with the movies I highly recommend reading or listening to the books. A lot more detail especially in the later books because there are no time constraints.
His mom PROTECTED him with love not cursed him. It's explained better in the book.
No students stay at Hogwarts over the summer and as someone else explained Harry HAS to return to his aunt's house for at least part of the summer every year.

    • @meganhutcheson5867
      @meganhutcheson5867 Před 11 měsíci

It was Dean that called red card, because in the movie, he believes that he is completely muggle born, because his mom is muggle born he does not know about his dad, because he thinks his dad left him when he was born.

They never said Harry’s mother cursed him with love. When she jumped in front of him (in the scene where they show her death) her love protected him and it still protected him when Quirrel was trying to kill him.

    About the Philosopher's Stone:
-Dumbledore is a powerful wizard (duh =>me)
-Dumbledore transferred the stone into the Mirror of Erised ('Erised' is 'desire', backwards; the text at the frame top also is written backwards)
-Dumbledore included in the transferal spell the means to retrieve it: it immediately 'teleports' into the pocket of the one looking for it who has no intent on using it
-Basically, the desire to use it is disqualifying to acquiring it
When you create a spell, you have to set the terms for how it functions and under what circumstances it will NOT work. Think of it as the same as writing rules, contracts, or legislation. Magic has its own logic and mechanisms.
The Philosopher's Stone did NOT appear 'randomly' in Harry's pocket; Harry qualified as the first person to fulfill what was necessary to acquire the Stone, so the Stone was DIRECTED to transfer from behind the mirror's glass barrier to the inside of Harry's pocket, then show Harry where it is. The magical mirror was merely fulfilling the rules placed on it by Dumbledore: keep the Stone safe until the qualifying person presented themselves.
    About Lily's love protection:
As you get further into the franchise, the scene where Harry and Voldemort first meet will be revisited several times, which will help you understand the 'old magic' Lily uses to protect her son.
-Basically, Lily hears Voldemort invading the house and understands she has a brief period to do what she can for her child.
-In the intensity of that brief period, she invests ALL her love into Harry (with the backup of her magical abilities), in hopes that she will be able to leave a protective shield over him
-The love Lily invested in Harry stays with him his entire life, giving him some measure of invincibility
-The nature of that 'mother's love' old magic clashes with evil, especially ill-intent toward Harry and is exceedingly strong, overpowering most attacks on Harry
-Because of that old magic love, Voldemort specifically cannot touch Harry, magically and literally
-Quirrell was carrying Voldemort around like a parasite; it made Quirrell (who is considerably less powerful than Voldemort) subject to destruction by the protection Lily invested in Harry
So, it wasn't Harry who controls the effect; Harry is just the beneficiary of it. And it wasn't so much Quirrell that activated it; it was being a carrier of Voldemort. Poor Quirrell was destroyed between the clash of Voldemort and Lily's protective barrier.

Im a little late to comment this, but the actor for Hagrid passed away and both Dumbledore actors have passed away. Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid) passed away in October of 2022. As for Dumbledore, originally Richard Harris plays Dumbledore in this movie and HP& The Chamber of Secrets (The second movie), before unfortunately passing away in 2002. In HP& The Prisoner of Azkaban (number 3 in the series) Michael Gambon replaces Harris as Dumbledore and plays him for the rest of series, Gambon unfortunately passed away in September of 2023.
Many of the actors from this series have also passed away including,
    Alan Rickman (Severus Snape)
Richard Griffiths (Vernon Dudley, Harry's uncle. You may also recognize him as King George II in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides)
Helen McCrory (Narcissa Malfoy, Draco's mother)
John Hurt (Garrick Ollivander, the wand maker/merchant)
Verne Troyer (Griphook the Goblin, one of Goblins Harry meets in Gringotts Bank)
Dave Legeno (Fenrir Greyback, a werewolf Death-Eater)
Robert Hardy (Cornelius Fudge, the MInister of the Ministry of Magic)
Elizabeth Spriggs (The Fat Lady painting. She was also replaced in the third movie, like Richard Harris/Dumbledore, following her tragic passing)
And really countless others. Rest in Peace to the many great actors that made Harry Potter so enjoyable and believable to so many.

When Harry’s mother sacrificed herself to save Harry the night she and her husband died, that caused an enchantment to be put around Harry to protect him from being killed. That’s why he was sent to live with his bitter and abusive aunt because she was his mothers only living blood relative, which means so long as he lives with her, Voldemort and his followers can’t touch him. Harry had to go back every summer to strengthen the protection that was put on him and would be broken once he turns 17.

Welcome to The Wizarding World rabbit hole that is Harry Potter. The best thing about the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone, to me is that the chambers following the third floor corridor containing Fluffy each play to the strengths of Harry, Ron and Hermione.
The Devil's Snare chamber caters to Hermione's knowledge of spells
The room with the winged keys caters to Harry's skill with quidditch.
And the chess room caters to Ron's knowledge of how to play the game of chess.

Love is a very old magic, Older than any magic taught at hogwarts. And there are actual legends of it too. You have to give a life to save a life..... When harry's mom Sacrificed her own life to save Harry; She bestowed upon him a love shield protection. No evil could touch him without being burned..... And in my book, Any parrot willing to give their life to save their children are the greatest of all parents....
