About Gayathri Devi, Queen Jaipur.
Total polled in LS 1962 LS election 246516 and Gayathri Devi got 192909, i.e., 78% votes and won. She contested as a Swathanthra Party candidate.
Indira Gandhi got surprised how a clan from a Jaipur King dynasty received so much vote ? In the next LS election also Gayathri Devi won with bigger share of votes. This obviously angered further Indira Gandhi and she made various attempts and plots to defeat Gayathri Devi but failed. In 1971 LS election, she even got deleted the names of those who voted for Gayathri Devi and in spite of this Indira Gandhi’s uncouth and unacceptable monstrous demeanor , Gayathri Devi won by 55000 votes.
Gayathri Devi was a strong critic of Indira Gandhi and Congress always. In this scenario, when Indira Gandhi declared Emergency, throttling opposition’s voices, freedom and jailed everyone who is against her and her govt., ruthlessly with absolute control over media and news. Gayathri Devi was marked but she was in Hospital under treatment. When Gayathri Devi returned to Parliament, she saw opposition benches were empty and she was arrested and put into notorious Tihar Jail with no facility whatsoever. Gayathri Devi was treated very badly in Jail by authorities under the direct instruction of Indira Gandhi. Her jail room was infested with rats and bandicoots with no current. Gayathri Devi was mentally and physically abused to the maximum and she got ulcer in Jail and no treatment was given and her background was of trash value to Indira Gandhi, because of Indira Gandhi’s utter disliking of Gayathri Devi in many fronts. Because of these unbearable torture in Tihar Jail, finally Gayathri was released upon taking a firm stand that she will not enter into politics again and not criticize Indira Gandhi and Emergency.
When Gayathri Devi retured to her palace, she found most of her properties were either damaged or confiscated or forcefully taken by govt., and their cohorts. Finally Gayathri Devi died in a pitiable physical, mental and financially broke condition.
Mr Kushwant Singh in one of his writing mentioned why Indira Gandhi got so antagonized by Gayathri Devi - Mr Kushwant Singh writes - Gayathri Devi was more beautiful, forward looking, good intelligence and empathy and her glamour and public outreach and of course fierce critic both in Parliament and outside, could not be acceptable to Indira Gandhi, because Indira Gandhi does not like anyone who is above her in all the parameters. Gayathri Devi excelled in Sports (Polo), Shooting etc. MORE SO, GAYATHRI DEVI WON ELECTION WITHOUT INVOKING HER FATHER’S NAME AND FAMILY TREE. Such a vengeful and poisonous snake is what Indira Gandhi is.
