Learning to drive is mildly stressful. I had to do my level 3 first aid for work and Oh my god that was a hard course. I had the shakes during the practical exam! I passed that course but it was the hardest course I have ever taken. The knowledge was not not hard to learn it was the practical stuff that was hard. It was a two week 5 days a week course that ran for 80 hours total. Learning to drive just seems anti-climatic in comparison. I'm 45 so maybe my life experiences just lowers the stress. Sure the first time in a car with the instructor was nerve wracking but I adjusted and now having done 8 lessons I am much more comfortable in the car. I plan to keep taking two lessons a week until I am at a point the instructor says I can pass the road test for my N. I plan to have at least 100 hours of practice with at least 25 to 30 in a car with instructor. I am of the opinion getting professional lessons with an accredited ICBC trained instructor just makes perfect sense. I plan to spend time learning further after getting my N too. I don't want to develop bad habits. I also want to learn to drive correctly and master the skills needed so I can have my independence from public transit.
Hi ne0rmatrix - you are right my friend - life experiences make different things relative. And if you've had other tougher experiences, then yes, you might find driving less stressful. Drop us a note if we can help further my friend. All the best, Cheers Rick
Good lesson. I've been teaching driving for 42 years. The lesson was very good. I would only make one suggestion. When giving directions for turns, the Instructor said (paraphrase) 'turn right at the intersection' I would suggest a minor change in wording. Always give the intersection before the direction. So "At the upcoming intersection, turn right." Many inexperienced drivers are hanging on the Instructor's every word. When they hear "turn right", they may turn right then. You could end up in a driveway (or worse). It's rare but I've ridden with many instructors and I've seen it happen.
Thank you for your kind words my friend. In which part of the world do you teach? And yes, you are correct - language matter with students. I usually work out a system with the student before heading out on to the road - controlled and uncontrolled intersections. All the very best, Cheers Rick
@@smartdrivetest I'm in Western NY. And yup, everyone communicates slightly differently, so establishing the meanings of certain words is important ("stop", "brake", "speed up" and the ever important phrase "my car", meaning I am taking control and you need to take hands and feet off the controls). I've been training Instructors for about 30 years. Now that I'm retired, I find I miss teaching both Students and Instructors.
@@patrickscott3740 - Western NY - you're in the Finger Lakes - Buffalo region there. Teaching is in our blood my friend. We like to help others and see them succeed. The atmosphere is quite relaxing! You patiently and strictly guided everything! I'm also in a city in BC, Canada, and I have a self-employed driving school instructor, and honestly this guy teaches really good stuff. But he's okay with any mistakes (yelling for just a little mistake, followed by rude name-calling ), but he's always stressing that I'm responsible for you, and I know that's right. So I actually respect him very much all the time, but every time I go home I break down and want to cry. Even so, I really didn't lose faith in driving. At some crossroads he urged me to go quickly, you are too slow, what are you doing? ? !! Yelling like that, but he never swears at me (though I know he'd love to). And with some of his yelling I started to lose some of my cool judgment, I even got scolded for losing my mind and braking hard at the intersection (it's very dangerous!) and then he said you shouldn't drive if you don't want to kill yourself. I actually had a good time with another driving instructor(humm kind old man), but his schedule was too tight(Can't practice with him all the time). My road test was in two weeks, so I found this driving instructor and he had a lot of time, which was an advantage. So I don't know how to tell him I have these concerns, who knows? Maybe after I'm frank with him, he'll say you don't think it suits you and get out lol~

It's good to move your head and not just your eyes because you can see down the roads, see how fast cars are approaching it, if they seem to be concentrating. It's not just doing it for the examiner, it's more about defensive driving. A new driver can never have enough awareness.
You are "oh soooo right" my friend. See this vid: czcams.com/video/TrtgVbd87SY/video.html Most drivers are NOT reading and responding to what's going on in the driving environment. Too many think they have to have good reaction time. Rather, they should be observing and maintaining enough space so that they can read and respond to what's going on in the traffic environment. Rick, I have to ask, are you a licensed instructor? Driver training isn't just about passing a road test. It's about learning the right attitudes and skills to keep you safe and confident on the road. Whether you’re new to driving or would like to refresh your skills, there's a course that's right for you. -Quoted from ICBCs website

It's rare for a driving instructor to get a student that doesn't have any driving experience. Most new drivers are in the GDL program and have had their learner's permit for a year. They've usually had some driving before preparing for their test. When their test is a few days away - that's when they get driving lessons. All the best, Cheers Rick
Geez…what is the deal with teenage girls these days? Did she really blame him for her mistake? He pointed right and said to turn right but she told him he pointed left and that’s why she went left. 🥴😩 She also argued with him pretty much when he said, “Scan”. She said, “Well I do…” No. You weren’t scanning and it doesn’t matter if you were, don’t talk back to adults who are trying to help you. I know most people watching this video will be teenagers so this comment may get some heat but I don’t care. When I was her age, no way would I have said anything like that to an adult. Ever.
There's nothing like that expression when a young driver passes his/her test for the first time - that never gets old. All the very best, Cheers Rick
I have my license for 10+ years and I learned more from you than I ever did at my driver's Ed class
You should find another instructor. He seems very unprofessional.
@@DowellPa exactly I would say this too~just passed my N with another instructor~~

All the best, Cheers Rick

Especially in rush hour, severe weather conditions, drivers need to be vigilant, & mindful, of entering an intersection when clear, & less congestion!
Every damn time on the ad when Rick says that this is brought to you by the Course package it sounds very much like he is saying this is brought to you by a Coors package like a Coors 6 pack or 12 pack.

Geez…what is the deal with teenage girls these days? Did she really blame him for her mistake? He pointed right and said to turn right but she told him he pointed left and that’s why she went left. 🥴😩
She also argued with him pretty much when he said, “Scan”.
Ever. Kids truly are different these days. No manners.
