    Excellent approach. Brandon, would you do a tutorial on nails perhaps? How do you look after yours, what do you use?
    I know it's a personal thing and we all have different things that work for our specific nail types. It would be much appreciated. Thank you.

      I used to play guitar, but couldn't get rid of my nail biting habit. My teacher told me I couldn't play like that (though I did mostly fine in volume and precision, even with tremolo)
      Now I play lute, which was historically played with the finger tips, not the nails. Who's laughing now HAHA.

    • @vladimirgaucan8832
      @vladimirgaucan8832 Před 4 lety +3

      @@nextlifeonearth there is no way in heaven you could do tremolo without nails. You would have no volume and only the bass melody would be heard as the P finger is the strongest plucker.

      @ledzeprulz Před 4 lety +5

      I was going to ask about this also! Such a massive aspect of classical guitar that can be easily overlooked

    • @costa5140
      @costa5140 Před 4 lety +15

      That's a false notion. I have been playing with no nails for some time now, after many years of playing with nails, and my tremolo is better than it ever was before; no more clickety-clack of nails against the strings. Volume is not a problem either; if anything I'm able to push the strings more without having to worry about getting a nasty, scratchy sound at top-volume. The idea that you loose volume without nails is another false notion. You get more higher partials present when you play with nails - hence the twangier tone - which makes it easier to project and stick out in chamber-ensambles. This is why a lot of baroque theorbo players who worked in operatic settings would use their nails, while most historical players seems to have favoured the no-nails approach for solo literature.

    This is amazing, I was experimentig a bit to learn tremolo yesterday. Today I watched this video I saw a feww days back and within the 10 Minutes of playing along (sometimes repeating a section) to these exercises, I can do a tremolo! It's still a bit rough of course but it got so much cleaner, faster and more controlled and most importantly it doesnt feel as awkward anymore.
