What is POEM Procedure?
The POEM procedure, which stands for Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy, is a minimally invasive endoscopic surgery used to treat swallowing disorders, most commonly achalasia. Achalasia is a condition where the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) doesn't relax properly, making it difficult for food and liquids to pass from the esophagus into the stomach.
