    Sorin since you like Citar and Psychadelic music (i do too) i recommend listing to Boudewijn de Groot's album "Picknick".
    It sounds really cool. The best tracks in my opinion are: Pickick, Cinderella and Prikkebeen.

    Dollar Holler's!!!!! That Live Mothers was one of one's I bought when I first got into Zappa, the very first LP I bought was "Overnite Sensation". I started out liking Frank's later album's also, I didn't like 60's Mother's. Then something happened when I really started getting deep into psych, now the 60's stuff is the best to me. In time you may feel the same way, give it some time. "We're Only In It For The Money" is Franks masterpiece! All Music rates it five stars! And they rate the first two Mothers LPs at four stars, I totally agree! Since you have the copy with the Mothers sticker on the cover, that is the censored 2nd version. The copies without the sticker are uncensored. Read up on it . One part that was censored was "I will love the police as they kick the sh#t out of me on the street". See discogs for all the description of what was censored.

    Definitely the best place to start with the Mothers is One Size Fits All. It has one of the best lineups Zappa ever worked with. Napoleon Murphy Brock, Chester Thompson, and George Duke are all in his band on that album, and it's probably the most accessible of his Mothers albums.

    I'm 68, so I grew up in that era with most all those records. I was 13 when I bought my first Mothers album "Freak Out." As a young punk they were perfect for the times. "We're only in it for the money" is an all time favorite. I don't promote the use of drugs, but back in the day when there was really good pure LSD around, if you ate a tab of that, strapped on a good pair of headphones & that record, you were in for one crazy ride! I think I know ever word, nook & cranny of that album. That's how many times I've listened to it. I was very lucky to grew up in that era. I was 9 when The Beatles were on Ed Sullivan. A life changer, as it was for millions of others.

    We're Only In It For The Money is among my top 10 Zappa releases. It's definitely a period release, although it remains relevant today. You can check out my video review of the album for more context if you like. Hot Rats is definitely a killer album, brilliant all the way through. Low for quite a while had been my favorite Bowie release, but Aladdin Sane regained its top billing for me. Low, however, remains an incredible addition to Bowie's catalog, he really stretches his muse with this release. Excellent dollar albums, a good way to check some of these out before committing the cash to copies in better condition.

    • @sorinvinyl1523
      @sorinvinyl1523  Před 14 dny

      I'll check it out when I have the time! I need to spend more time with Low. There were definitely some pretty damn nice copies of some albums in there. I'll upgrade live dead eventually. Thanks for watching ✌️

  • @JWD1992
    @JWD1992 Před 14 dny

    I love Low, but it is probably the Bowie album with the fewest lyrics. Side 2 just has wordless vocalizations, while Side 1 starts and ends with instrumentals. So it is quite different from a typical Bowie album. Then again, there are no "typical" Bowie albums, haha.
    Hot Rats has even fewer lyrics. That's an awesome album, too. It's got that Zappa weirdness, yet there is something very accessible about it. Freak Out might be the Mothers album to start with. It ends up goddamn weird on Side 4, but it builds up gradually, which is brilliant.

    • @sorinvinyl1523
      @sorinvinyl1523  Před 13 dny +1

      It was a MASSIVE influence on post-punk bands. Without this album there might be no bands like Joy Division, Magazine, Ultravox...and definitely was a huge influence on OK Computer/Kid A era Radiohead.

    • @JWD1992
      @JWD1992 Před 12 dny +1

      @@aurinrakkun8589 Didn't Joy Division originally call themselves Warsaw because of the track Warzsawa (which is the actual Polish name for the city)? I seem to recall that. Of course, their song Warsaw is not about the city.

    Nice result Sorin! As others have suggested Zappa's Freak Out is his most accessible. Actually has nice melodic pop songs with string arrangements but also contains out and out psych like Who Are The Brain Police...crazy for the year it was made. Definitely get Absolutely Free and Weasels Ripped My Flesh. How much is a clean Talking Book in the US? I see clean copies around the £10 mark here and the same for his other early 70s lps. Cheers Nige

    Nice score on the collection! I especially like the Mothers of Invention albums, We're Only In It For The Money is my fave of the lot, I know it can be a difficult listen, but I like the weirdness of it, and the song titles are just insane. Hot Rats is another favorite, fantastic album. I just picked up a copy of Waka/Jawaka, the sequel to Hot Rats, and it's also excellent. Live Dead is an awesome live album, I saw them a few times in the 70s and 80s and they were great, but I wish I could have seen them in the 60s, at least we have their live recordings from that era.
