- ⛵ Join us for an extraordinary 48-hour adventure through Newcastle! Our adventure kicks off on the iconic Quayside, where we explore the stunning array of bridges spanning the River Tyne, including the historical Tyne Bridge, the modern Millennium Bridge, and the engineering marvel of the Swing Bridge.
🏛️ Delve into Newcastle's rich history as we wander past the longest remaining section of the medieval town walls and head towards the heart of the city, unveiling its celebrated landmarks. Marvel at the Earl Grey Monument and uncover the intriguing connection between the former Prime Minister and the famous tea that bears his name. Wander down Grey Street, admire the architectural splendor of the Theatre Royal and the Central Arcade's early 20th-century decor.
🏰 Our journey continues through the lively Grainger Market, leading to the highlight of our first day: the majestic Newcastle Castle. Experience the stark contrast between the old and new as we explore the castle’s renovations and enjoy breathtaking views from its summit.
⛴️ Day two begins with a delicious breakfast at The Dispensary Coffee House, followed by a fascinating visit to the Discovery Museum, where we dive deep into Newcastle's shipbuilding heritage and connection to the River Tyne. A visit to the awe-inspiring Newcastle Cathedral reveals maritime history through its lantern tower and breathtaking interior, including stunning stained glass windows.
📕 Our adventure wouldn’t be complete without exploring the quirky side of Newcastle, such as the mysterious Vampire Rabbit. We also step into the world of literature and philosophy at the Lit and Phil, the largest independent library outside London. Our journey ends on a high note at the unique cocktail bar housed in a converted Victorian-era public toilet, showcasing Newcastle's innovative spirit.
❤️ Thank you for joining us on this incredible exploration of Newcastle! We've been touched by the warmth of the Geordies and the city's captivating blend of history and modernity. Visited Newcastle last year. Such an under rated city. Your drone footage was excellent. Thanks guys.
As a person born in this city, your commentary and experience is so positive. So glad you both enjoyed your visit!
Glad you enjoyed the Toon Bonnie Lad 👍🏼
Thanks for doing this video on our city, I was born in Willington Quay, Wallsend, just down the river next to Tynemouth , Roman name Segedunum & far from being the end of the 73 mile long Roman wall, it's actually the start. I saw where you visited the Lit & Phil (one of my favourite buildings) &, where you've taken photos of the entrance some workman, digging a hole for utilities, stumbled upon a section of that same Roman wall, forgotten about for centuries...you both walked over it 😅 The Lit & Phil was used by many of Newcastle's most famous folks, George Stephenson (the Father of the Railways) & his son, Robert, the famous railway & bridge engineer , also Joseph Swan, the inventor of the lightbulb , Richard Grainger, the architect of Grainger Town (all those beautiful 19th century buildings so beloved of todays budding architects) ...hope we see you back again sometime 😊
Congratulations on showing off Newcastle. Some beautifully shot drone footage, shame you didn’t get to St James Park to see Newcastle’s Utd’s famous football stadium. Good luck & safe travels, best wishes from Newcastle 🎉
I'm super proud this is my city! Thank you for showing it off so beautifully 😊
i am a scouser nobody more proud than us in liverpool which is a real port and city more to see here a fact :)
Yeah but they wanted to visit a Northern City!
Thank You for a great video of The home of us Geordies! Have the best time travelling.
Newcastle is a beautiful city with so much history, it's a pity you didn't visit summer time, can't beat sitting on the Quay side, with all the bridges lighting up the river tyne, excellent video
Thanks so much! :)
We are traveling in Europe all year and will be back in England for sure! We're seriously considering going back to Newcastle in summer actually
Great to have our cousins back in Europe. Your culture, history and ethnic background are second to none. Revel in your races great achievements.
What races? Great North Run?
I’ve lived 8miles from Newcastle almost all my life and didn’t know half of these places existed! Will definitely be exploring more in future👍
Glad you both enjoyed my hometown.
The Tyne Bridge was built first and then the same architect build the Sydney Harbour Bridge, which is why they look very similar. They've just started restoration of the Tyne Bridge, to get it back to its former colour etc.
Youll not find many places in the UK where people absolutely love the city they come from. Newcastle is an exception to that.
Yet the rest or the country seems to be intent on being ignorant about its glory. Ive brought a few friends to newcastle and they were all absolutely shocked at how nice it is. They almost fell in love with it as much as i did, and im not even from there.
Just watched your upload of Newcastle you did it beautifully thanks guys massive thumbs 👍 up ❤
Thank you very much! We had a great time in Newcastle and a lots of fun making the video! We're so glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for visiting the toon as part of your trip!
Very well done in showing Newcastle in a positive light , you should get some recognition from the Newcastle tourist board . Glad you enjoyed your time here .
Thanks so much :) It really wasn't hard to show it in a positive light - We had a great time
Odd, i am a native of this toon, now living in Western Australia, went back last year first in 26 years, its changed a tad. So much history, we just take it for granted
Excellent video of my home City ... you have explained it brilliantly and have been to more places than I have !!! I've lived here for 44 years. Lovely couple
Thank you so much! That really means a lot to us :)
Before we started this Europe trip, we hadn't been to many new places either - We're having an amazing time so far!
if the weather is good check out the Ouseburn area and Jesmond Dene. Or get a metro to the beach!
Hiya Casey and Lachlan, I'm from the North West of England, but the football team I support is Newcastle United, the ground St James's park is just beside Chinatown, I enjoyed this vlog, this is Choppy in Whitehaven, Cumbria, England
Likewise, I’m a Toon fan from Workington 👍
MY HOME CITY NEWCASTLE BORN & BRED & PROUD
A very nice video about our canny city. Welcome and I hope you both enjoyed yourselves here.
You missed st James park oh well I hoped u enjoyed our wonderful city!
Hope you enjoyed yourselves!
Excellent video of my home town or toon as we say it. from a proud Geordie
Thanks so much! We're so glad you enjoyed the video! We loved Newcastle!

Thanks for visiting 😊
brilliant

Thank you! :)
As someone who has lived here my entire life, this was a breath of fresh air and a new perspective for even myself. Like remembering an old love of sorts! Brilliant little adventure you've had here. Well done! I wish I'd discovered it the same way. Thank you.
That makes us so happy to hear! Thank you very much for the kind comment!
We totally understand what you mean though - we're excited to go back home at the end of year and explore Australia the way a tourist might
@@CaseyandLachlan Ooo very fancy! I hope you enjoy your travels and find everything ya like! Earned yourself a subscriber, Have fun guys!
That's awesome! Cheers!
You should have jumped on the Metro to the coast to explore Tynemouth and it's castle and Whitley Bay great fish in chips in both areas
Brilliant video! 👏 One big miss I think, is St. James' Park, home of Newcastle United! I am a season ticket holder, and I'd be surprised if you didn't pick up our love for them during your 2 days!
That aside, superbly informative video 😊
We absolutely picked up on that while we were there! I would have loved to experienced the atmosphere at a big game there!
Maybe next time 😊
Lived here my whole life and didn't know half this stuff
Greatest football team in the world Newcastle united pride of the north ⚽🇬🇧
what ever marra.
I've lived near Newcastle all my life and never heard of the vampire rabbit. I need to visit local areas more. Hope you have a great European tour.
Check out Newcastle on a website called Atlas Obscura - there might be a few more interesting things on there you haven’t heard of :) we’ve been using it a lot to help us plan our travels
Great videos! Come back again and "do" St James's Park on match day, the Town Moor, Holy Jesus Hospital, The Quayside and much much more!
Great open areas around Spital tongues...i was born there bang in thew middle of all of the moors !
Hi too u both cracking video cu on next one
Hey! Thanks so much! We truly had a great time! It has been a highlight of our trip so far
I once went to Newcastle but it was closed.
It was to you.
try going again under the heading ...'Nairobi; ' . . . .
I didn't know about a few of these things and I live here 😅
How did you not visit St James' Park?!?! (still enjoyed the video)
We would have loved to go for a big game! Next time for sure!
Its interesting to see a traveler's experience around a city centre I've lived in for 58 years. There's a lot of history around Newcastle and it's a hardworking, but fun place to live. Glad it wasn't just pissed up hen parties and stag parties on show. Yes, wa Geordies and (sometimes) mental... but also have a bit of culture about us too.
Absolutely! We certainly experienced the nightlife, which is on a different level to anywhere else we've been to! But, we wanted to showcase the culture and history in the video! We had a great time and would love to go back one day
😊
One of the best cities the uk has to offer with the best people. Durham just down the road, also lovely place to visit and has the best university in the country!
The Toon!
Thanks for showing some of our city, im so proud of my city Newcastle upon Tyne and proud to be a Geordie ( name of people from Newcastle due to our accent ) the friendliest people in uk & a great atmosphere if you like a party city 🥳🥳
Accent has nothing to do with the title Geordie.
..that tired old cliche . .. . - Cobblers !!!!
@@alanhargreaves-thevoiceofr2361 Do you know what a cliche is, ok no need to answer because you have proven you dont.
@@PatrickKelly-lz3pv that rubbish about 'friendly Geordies' ..what rubbish ...go for a walk down westgate road and tell me how friendly it is . .. . .
@@alanhargreaves-thevoiceofr2361 Who mentioned anything about friendly Geordies not me although my encounters of meeting the people from that area are different to yours, i never mentioned their cordial affable approachable nature.
should of visited cathedral on the hill its called st james park
Hahaha! We're certainly getting that vibe from all comments
We'll have to come back one day and go!
Should’ve done St James Park
It's on the list for next time for sure!
No mention of the welcoming local people?
Don't know what they're all.proud of just because they're born in North East I worked on the buses years ago and the 'friendly" Geordies on the Kenton estate run amongst others were argumentative yobs and those who weren't drunk and abusive would petend to be asleep in order to avoid paying the bus fare.
@@trevorwills3356Aye but how long ago was that?
the 'local' people are now Indians . . . .
You both done a fantastic job of showing off our beautiful city. Hope you enjoyed your time in Newcastle.
It a shame that the swing bridge doesn't actually swing any more and like most of the bridges they're in a desperate state of repair.
It's not a castle it's a keep and this one is the third to be built.
Did you see Gazza walkin’ the Tyne?
*Googles what that means*
Hahaha, No! But now I feel like we've missed out because we didn't! :P
..or the wonderful 'Local' MP .. ???
Earl Grey was also the Prime Minister who oversaw the abolition of slavery throughout the British Empire and enforced it world wide.
He probably needs a bigger monument for that then ;)
You should have taken a look at the NUFC trophy cabinet. Its amazing, hasn't been opened for 55 years!
Ho-Way The Lads
"Lachlan" thats a cool name btw, probably the greatest name in the world tbf haha
😅 Thank you! I absolutely agree!
I thought it was pretty common, but it has stumped a lot of people here in Europe
@@CaseyandLachlan iv noticed here in Scotland its not very popular even though it's a Scottish name, most people seem to be from Australia
That’s what I thought! 😂
@@CaseyandLachlan sound mate, i just gave you a sub, yous both seem a nice couple and i like the travel channels :)
Ohh thanks so much! We’ve got a heap planned for the rest of the year! Belfast video coming next!
Looking for the exit hopefully
Ftm 🔴⚪️🐈⬛
The place is also home to about 1 million pakistanis and indians . . . .a source of great hostility to the Local People (of which i am one obviously ) . .
This is not how the majority of people in Newcastle feel. Please ignore this bigot. Glad you enjoyed your time in Newcastle.
Thanks @@megatron1978! In our experience, cultural diversity makes the world a better place and Newcastle was no exception!❤
The castle built in 1080 by Robert Curthose was a wooden castle this one replaced it on the same site.
@@piegadgie they built it to keep foreign invaders out . . .. -how ironic !!!!
@@alanhargreaves-thevoiceofr2361 if you include scots as being foreign maybe.
Dunno how thats ironic
Probably spent 24 hrs looking for the wheels off your car !
That castle is just the castle keep...the rest of the castle apart from the Black Gate has long since gone.
I have my grandfather's old 78rpm shellac records from the 1920s and 30s that have Windows record sleeves. I find it pretty incredible that I can still buy a record from the exact same store that my grandad frequented nearly 100 years ago!!
