- I arrived on a tropical remote island in The Maldives and decided to do a little low tide Fishing Challenge on the reef flats. I had a total of 100 casts to catch fish on the island flats. See how I did during this 100 cast fishing challenge on the reef on the tropical island Thoddoo. Next time I will do some shallow water grouper fishing.

Rod: Ultimate Travel Spinrod 2,10m (5-25g)
Reel: Daiwa Fuego LF300

Hallow Cris You are back at Thoddoo with a new rod and a reel as usual, an interesting and informative video. What are your overall impressions this time compared to the previous one? Previously, in the port you caught barracuda well, how is it now after the reconstruction, I really want to watch a video of the port. I'm going to Thoddoo in 3 months.

Thoddoo was amazing once again, but also different. Last time I came during high-season and the water was calmer. This time I arrived at the end of the raining season, which was a bit rougher. 🌊
They indeed rebuild the harbour/port of Thoddoo. It is way bigger now and unfortunately I didn't have any luck catching barracuda this time. I am not sure if that is a seasonal thing though 🤔
Great to hear you are going to the island in 3 months. I actually am planning to upload a Thoddoo video every Saturday for the next 3 months, so hopefully you can see a bit more of the island before you go there yourself 😉.

Good video. I was at Maafushi n Fulidhoo Dec 2023. Fishing there not good, seems like the fish population has dwindled significantly after covid. I heard Mathiveri island is better for shore fishing. Never been there yet. Anybody any videos from there?
Thanks for checking out my videos. I did some fishing in Maafushi myself like 5 years ago and was actually catching a lot of Emperor, snappers, groupers etc. I did see on Google maps that they have done some construction in the water since I have been there, so maybe that is the reason fish aren't around anymore 🤔. I don't know about Mathiveri, I have only fished on Maafushi and Thoddoo.

Would apricate it if you could do a Tutorial on how to start fishing in Maldives as I have had no luck so far.
It depends on where you fish, but try to find some coral 🪸 and use a small crankbait that doesn't sink to deep (otherwise you get snagged to much and lose your lure). You will often catch some Grouper, Wrasse, Triggerfish or Snapper 👍
You could also use a softplastic and try to target Grouper around the rocks in the harbour (this will be in my next video).
If you fish from the beach where there is not a lot of coral or rocks, you will catch way less fish. However, these are often great places for Trevally and Emperor. So less action, but strong fish 😉
Fish act differently during the day. Just before sunset is often a pretty good time to fish. I also like low-tide, so I can walk out to the reef.
Just try a couple of different lures to find out what fish are biting on your island. I am sure you will catch a lot of fish once you find out what kind of fish are active in your area.

Nice. Hello From Maldives, been watching a few of your videos and I am impressed. I have a similar setup with a Diawa Rod and reels, 5-25g lures. Have been trying in Male & Hulhumale area but no luck so far. Lost 6 lures yesterday also. I'd really look forward to your videos.

Wat waren je favoriete eilanden hier?
Ik ben niet op heel veel eilanden geweest. Dit was op Thoddoo, mijn favoriete eiland omdat het zo stil is en je hele stukken strand voor jezelf hebt. Daardoor ook ideaal om te vissen 👍😉. Ik ben ook een weekje naar Maafushi geweest. Dit is een heel populair en druk eiland, maar daardoor heeft het wel veel hotels, restaurant en tal van tours die je kunt boeken. Veel van mijn oudere vis videos zijn van Maafushi. Toen ving ik hier voornamelijk Emperor en snappers. Rasdhoo is een ander eiland dichtbij Thoddoo, maar daar ben ik alleen een middagje geweest voor een overstap waardoor ik niet veel weet over dit eiland. Wel zag ik veel ondiep water met interessante vissen. Misschien leuk om te vissen met een micro popper.
