      well concept is good but imagine in mid-twelfth centuries faction war in Asia "reloading" that thing on horseback while its galloping and enemy at your throat with his horse , sword , and bow with normal Quiver ... i don't think you can win that while reloading that magazine ... it might have proven useful in siege and stationary battle with swapping archer but still with mastery they had over their bow i doubt it will be faster than normally shooting more that "4" arrows.

    • @sergiosierra6849
      @sergiosierra6849 Před 4 lety +33

      @@velosong3396 the thing is it can actually be improved a lot, you can make it thinner and taller so more arrows can fit while beig easier to hold/shoot maybe leaving a wide/auto guiding recharge point so you could recharge without even seeing idk
      You can check in joerg's channel that he made an evolution of this and now he has 6 shotsa, but again that can be improved.

    • @velosong3396
      @velosong3396 Před 4 lety +4

      @@sergiosierra6849 yes it can be improved as you said but i still doubt skilled archer would have this over quiver during mounted warfare during mid twelfth century even if they had it as "option" but who knows maybe lighter frame with same amount of arrow inside each magazine and instead of reloading magazine replacing it may improve performance but in my option due to different arrow shape and size they used during that period i doubt it will be useful. At least to my knowledge of arrow and bows of Asian nomadic tribe wouldn't benefit from this design.

    • @4Leka
      @4Leka Před 4 lety +56

      Yup. Same with two rows of archers firing in turns. It took Nu 10 seconds to reload (leisurely) and 7-8 seconds to take four aimed shots. Assuming a more powerful bow took slightly longer to shoot, two rows of archers could keep up a non-stop hail of bolts until their quivers were all empty.
      Nu's rate of fire here was 16 bolts per minute, reloading included. Two rows of archers could thus maintain a steady rate of fire of around 32 bolts per minute or more.
      Even if it took twice as long to shoot a more powerful bow, at 15 seconds per maganize, the rate of fire would still be impressive. That would be around 10 bolts per minute with a single row of archers and 16 bolts per minute with two alternating rows of archers.
      And that's just with the rate of fire that Nu demonstrated in this video without even attempting to be fast. With training and haste those numbers would go up.

    Just found this video, been watching Joergs progress for some time. I think that this would be also useful for horse archery in combination with mongol taxtics. You could close in, get four shots in quick succesion, then feign retreat from range, safely reload, rinse and repeat until enemy is an army of hedgehogs. You could get more shots in less time, which means less time for enemy archers to counter you with larger foot infantry bows. You have zero chance to reload a crossbow in the time you can discharge four accurate bolts from this. Also, no-one except crossbowmen could use the bolts to shoot back. In open field battle with enough ammo, this would be even more owerpowered than regular horse archers, combining advantages of crossbow with drawlength of a compound bow, shooting faster than any of those two. I guess you could make magazine a bit bigger, but that could become too heavy and cumbersome. This looks perfectly fine and usable. 10/10 would not want to face this on the battlefield.
