    So I'm installing gutter guards and get to an inside corner, where I'm having trouble getting it to fit.
    Several days pass while I mull over my predicament, and in that space of days some wasps decide
    the underside of the guard is a good place to build a nest. (We've had no rain) So I figure a solution
    to my problem, go up the ladder, and get repeatedly buzzed by these wasps. I had some Ortho
    foaming spray, but couldn't get it to work in such a tight space. Then I watched your video.
    I made the soap and water solution you recommended, and at 1:30 am I went up the ladder, and sprayed.
    OMG it worked like a charm. When the wasps flew out, I sprayed them directly. So tomorrow,
    I will finish installing on the inside corner. Thanks for providing a super-easy solution!

    For anyone wondering, when you buy soap you have to make sure it has a degreaser additive because it’s that degreaser that clogs the pores on the insects exoskeleton causing them to suffocate. Just google what insects breathe through an exoskeleton and there’s ur list of what you can kill with it. And usually the best ratio is for every gallon, add 1 cup of soap

    • @zoltanszucs9346
      @zoltanszucs9346 Před rokem +4

      Are there any non-degreaser dish washer soaps out there? 🤔 I thought all of them contain degreaser. Are you able to clean greasy plates and cutlery without degreaser? Im just asking bc I can't really match up this brand with any European one.

    • @elram2649
      @elram2649 Před 12 dny

      @zoltanszucs9346
      I would think the viscosity of the spray mixture is what bonds and clogs the breathing pores on the underside of the insect.
      And so I'm thinking any liquid dish soap will do the job as long as you follow the given ratio of soap and water.
      But of course, if it has the degreasing chemical agent, it should perform more effectively.

      @Mary Jane, you are absolutely correct, (ONLY TIME) is at night especially on a cool evening, the later the better, the entire colony is in there in a dormant state. Do it during the day can be dangerous because wasps returning to the nest will defend it vigorously, and if you can't run like hell you will be a swollen pin cushion. Many people are not aware of this fact and will be in for a big surprise.

    You should try mixing in with the dish soap some ammonia. Since we were kids my brother and I used to use that mixture to kill everything, but we didn't use a sprayer. We used the bottle the dish soap came in because the nozzle on the bottle is perfect for squirting the foam into the entrance of the hive. The reason this works so well is because the foam not only traps the wasps, hornets, etc., but it also helps keep the ammonia fumes in the nest. The best thing about this is not just the effectiveness of it but the fact that as soon as the ammonia evaporates there isn't any residual poison to harm kids or pets. Been using this method for nearly 50 years and it has never failed to do the job. 2 tbsp soap; 1 cup H2O, 1 cup ammonia and shake a lot (the thicker the foam the better).

    I saw another video where they said wasps avoid other wasp nests because they do not like confrontation, so you can trick them by stuffing a brown paper bag with paper, then twisting the top closed and hanging it where wasps like to hang out; they will supposedly leave.

      sign543 he's pointing out there's more than one reason to thumbs down a video, there's nothing wrong with honest feedback as the uploader can find ways to increase viewer engagement, and ad revenue as well which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Longer videos are hard to keep viewers engaged due to dead air or excessive rambling at times.
      I have nothing against this video personally, I'm just looking at this from both sides of the fence.

    • @sign543
      @sign543 Před 5 lety +8

      100GTAGUY The comment he left was condescending and rude. “We aren’t two years old”. That’s just puerile and rude. Many people make videos like this in the style of a documentary, which ARE designed to keep you watching by dragging out what you want to see. There’s an entire industry whose job is it to do nothing but research this method. If you get what you want in the first minute...most would click out. Conversely, if it takes too long, people will get bored and won’t be patient enough to wait for the important part of the video. The comments that bugged me the most are fly-by comments made by people who create no content of their own, but merrily skip along carefree offering thumbs down and goofy advice to people who are actually out there making content that’s useful. Then some bonehead comes skipping along and gives it a thumbs down for no real reason...they just are feeling mean today. It’s too easy to be mean to others online because there is no consequence. If you had to thumb it down standing right in his presence...most wouldn’t happen. The platform makes it easier to depersonalize the people who make the videos...so it’s easier to just be mean or bullying with no remorse. The person clicks away...and the video is gone. It’s created an entire new level of ways to be antisocial and nasty to others.
