On November 26, 2017 my baby boy River, who was 14 months at the time, was left alone in the bathtub by his mother and drowned. The paramedics tried to reanimate River in our home, but they were unsuccessful and rushed him to the hospital where the doctors were able to successfully reanimate him and get a heartbeat. River suffered an anoxic brain injury and the doctors painted a very dark picture for us.
They advised me to let him go and said that he would never open his eyes again. I refused. River and I have an incredible spiritual connection, and I knew it was only the beginning of our adventure. I stayed in the hospital with River for months, focusing on his recovery. I brought my piano and guitar to the hospital and played music for him every single day. I talked to him, I massaged, and stimulated his body while telling him about all the cool things we were going to do together. I wrote songs by his side and felt that even though he was motionless and unresponsive in his hospital bed we were connected and communicating. Along the journey, River went through a tracheostomy and a surgery to install a g-tube in his stomach so we could feed him. After about two months River began to move his big toe and opened his eyes slightly.
I was so happy and continued stimulating his brain and body and surrounding him with love. In my time at the hospital with him I researched day and night on brain injuries, healing, and recovery. I talked to other parents of children who had gone through near drownings and spoke to many specialists on the subject. I was eager to come home with River so that I could get him started on therapies that would help him heal and that were unavailable at the hospital. I learnt all the special cares, how to use the ventilator, the oxygen machine, how to give River breathing treatments, how to save his life in case of an emergency.
Although it was the most physically demanding moments of my life as I was sleeping around 2-3 hours per night, I was so happy and inspired to be at home with River. He was in his familiar environment with the sounds and smells of home, all of his toys and surroundings I was able to sit with him at the piano, to cook food for him and blend it so he wouldn’t have to eat the hospital g-tube formulas. I got River started on the therapy journey with chiropractic, physical therapy, hyperbaric oxygen, cold laser therapy, and kept hoping that we could one day get more expensive therapies like stem cells, which could help him recover his brain and bodily functions.
River is now 4 years old; he opens his eyes fully when awake, gets excited when I jump on the trampoline with him, or support him and push his legs so he can walk around the house. The recovery journey is just beginning but so far, he has proved every doctor wrong, they had given up on him but I did not. I can tell River is excited about life by the sounds he makes, the way he moves his eyes and looks at me, and by the silent communication we share. He pushed me towards my own self-realization and has accelerated my own personal evolution. I invite you to be a part of this journey of love, healing, and recovering with River and me.
With the X39 patches. I have seen big changes in River's energy. He used to be completely tired at 7:30 pm and if I came back home too late with him I might have to put him on the ventilator. Since using the patches, River goes to bed at 9, 10 or 11 without ever needing the ventilator and his awareness and energy is so much better everyday. On top of that he has way more head support than he used to.
