  • In this talk, he discusses three characteristics of biological intelligence that current state of the art AI like ChatGPT lack. Soon, these features of biological intelligence may inspire more robust artificial AI systems.
    Jeremy Dohmann is a research scientist at MosaicML working on large language models. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

    It should have read "AI is dumber than humans....TODAY!"
    0:23 But he's smart enough to add "I think artificial general intelligence is quite a ways off."
    Meaning there's a possibility that it might become smarter, but not today. He knows this deep inside.
    Can't wait to come back to re-watch this video and laugh in the future.

    while this is all true, its not the whole picture I feel.
    Firstly, we do the training of initial weights right now. We are using chatgpt rn to train new models - which, in a way, is already weight initialization. We use certain methods to specify which images stable diffusion should generate, for example only a certain art style or a certain face. This will be possible with GPT models at some point. We are in fact already doing it, just not with high quality models. We have chatbots that are trained to assume certain roles, like naruto or stephen hawking. Or ofc the famous bots that emulate a relationship... those are all based on something, which has initial weights.
    About the second point, thats a tough one. Our goals are pretty vague, yes. But I think its less of a question of what we CAN give as a goal, its more one of what we WANT them to have as a goal. I think our goals are pretty complex already. We say "draw an image of a bear" to an AI and it gives us thousands of pixels arranged like a bear because of statistics. we can ofc make that goal more complex. But what more do we want, really? We are limited by computaional power and knowledge about how those models work rather than a proper goal tho.
    Social is a tough one. But I doubt that AI needs social interactions with other AIs. Thats a very anthropic view point. We say "we achived everything by working togther". But why? Why couldnt a single person do it all? Because of limits in time and bodily limits. But AI doesnt have a body, that doesnt apply. And time... it "thinks" way faster than we do. It has way more power. It has different limits than the human mind, which is optimized for efficiency. It also doesnt get distracted by a multitude of goals. Does it really need interaction? Maybe yes. But I think not for now. Not like humans.

    Yes, those who study how babies and young children learn should be included in the conversations about Artificial Intelligence. We adults have little concept of how intelligent the human baby is, and the speed and variety of learning our brains undergo from prior to birth to age 5. Never do we learn so much in our entire lives.
    It just makes sense

    Excellent talk! The advantage of AI is, that it follows the 3 rules of IT: 1) scalability, 2) replicability, 3) connectedness ... whilst humans show sometimes awesome capabilities in contextual understanding and sensemaking - the combination of Human-AI like in Human-Centered AI can therefore be promising ...

  • @scavenplays1

    This assertion given by this man is valid.
    But the significant problem is that AI reduces the skills and aptitude of humans. Just take an example of a person who learns coding and programming languages for years but AI converts anything into any programming language without any error that's why, in my opinion, a person can become useless in the upcoming years.

    • @alancarroll7648
      @alancarroll7648 Před rokem +1

      I am one of those people learning coding and the assertion that AI creates code without error is WAY off. Yes, it definitely saves time but I still have to debug most of what ChatGPT spits out.

    • @angtxsun4460
      @angtxsun4460 Před rokem

      That is like saying a nonnative speaker of any language can simply use a translator to convert ‘anything’ into usable language without ‘any error’. I can’t see that being true.
      What has increased is processing speed. What I don’t see so far is problem solving thinking.
      When an AI creates something humans have not yet conceived of- I’ll believe it is actually generative artificial intelligence.

    It is good to say that evolution took 6 million years to create modern humans, the first animals existed 600 million years ago and first single-celled life existed 4 billion years ago. On the other hand AI has not even existed for 100 years, AI was born in the second half of 20th century. So AI is better than humans in many areas (obviously not all) in just decades, and it took humans millions of years. But the speed at which AI learns and evolves is simply astonishing.

    Why it is difficult for a scientist or an academics to mention GOD, or ALLAH ? Why they always say evolution that not been proven yet and will never be proven ? Allah is the One that created, is creating and will create all living and non living things in this universe. He is our
    Creator that creates all our body parts from cell to entire body including BRAIN. Even A.I. also His creation. Because His wonderful intelegent creatures are writing the all single codes that A.I. needs.
