This is the first landscape photography vlog I have seen where the photographer nearly lost their umbrella. I appreciate your sense of humor and that you let your personality flow through the vlogs while also explaining what you look for when approaching a scene. I'm trying to teach myself to slow down but I always sort-of panic yet.

D750 is a great camera and still holds a reasonable financial value even today - it's sad how concerned people are with gear these days. Your photos look great whatever camera you use, and you are a lesson to your viewers that you can use any camera and get great images, and I wish people would focus more on that.

Agree. Due to my needs I find something like the Z30 perfect for me, even though I'm not who it was designed for. Pared down features in a compact form with a flippy screen and no EVF, and 20MP is basically all I need for my photos. ✨

There's always been an amount of snobbery and social climbing within the photography hobby. In the 80's it was medium format versus 35mm. Now it's full frame versus crop sensors. But I still find people must have the latest gear, just to show off. I've got a Nikon D810. It does everything I want. No need for the D850. People who need extra pixels so they can crop, can't compose properly, or they are too lazy to move themselves. BTW, I only use 3 prime lenses. No zooms.

As someone who mainly photographs wildlife, I switched over to the Sony A1 a year or so ago. However, I have retained my D850 and it accompanies me on my road trips for the landscape stuff for two reasons. Primarily because it's just an excellent camera, secondly because it means I don't have to change lenses on the Sony when I'm changing photography mode. I even bought a new D850 when my first one met with an unfortunate accident, thankfully the insurance covered that. I enjoy the channel, keep the videos coming and good luck.

Oh Courtney... if it's not dancing in the rain forest, it's chasing down an umbrella in a stream, you truly have me looking forward to your next video! Here in western Canada, our forests have been ablaze from May, and they are still burning...so most of my landscape images are not up to par because of the smoke, but a recent 1 week solo road-trip 'photo-shoot' was a lot of fun! I do look forward to our rainy season upcoming, but my roots from my Grandfather is Welsh, so I do love seeing the wonderful locations you choose, and your personality goes well in enjoying the video process you give us.

    Courtney,
I recently came across your channel and I must say I enjoy your subjects and presentation. I also enjoy your humor, as it seems to reflect what I’ve come to appreciate about British humor. While I make no apologies for it, my humor tends to be more on the morbid side. I suppose it is a reflection of almost 50 years in law enforcement.
I also appreciate your hybrid photographic philosophy, as I also make use of this technique. I’ve gone through many cameras in my time, and being an old fart, I began serious photography in the early 1970s using a Speed Graphics 4x5 for crime scene documentation. As said in the commercials, “We’ve come a long way, Baby.”
I envy your photographic opportunities with the number of streams and woodlands. We too have woodland in my area of Texas, however, it being typical Texas weather, the local temperatures are just shy of the surface of Mercury (the sunny side that is).
I currently have two Nikon D850s and a myriad of lenses from wide-angle to super-telephoto. I long ago decided to invest my money in quality lenses and I’ve always believed that the lens is the heart of any camera. As you have stated, good photography can be had with almost any camera body. But, I believe a quality lens is the key.
In any event, keep the videos coming. I do enjoy them.
Larry from Texas - where the men are manly, and the women are not.

I have owned both cameras - still own and use the D850. I do miss my D750 for the reason you stated; it was/is just so comfortable - a perfect fit!! I also got better color out of the D750 and lower noise. I love going back in my files and looking at D750 pics. However, recent advancements in RAW software make the color and noise differences moot. I am addicted to the Crop Modes in the D850 - they turn quality primes into 2-3 position zooms!! Having 45mp is just so addicting and convenient!!

    • @Powerstroke98
      @Powerstroke98 Před 10 měsíci

I've often wondered, regarding the D850 with it's larger RAW image sizing, if one's computer's resources would be the point as to where one should decide on keeping the D750 with it's RAW size about half the size? My old MacBook Pro, used for editing slows to a crawl, so my thought was always that anything larger would put an end to editing! Nonetheless, I bought my D750 in 2014 when they first came out, and it's still working as good today as it did when brand new. Just last week I bought a 27" iMac computer, with 32 GB of Ram, the best graphics card possible when built, and a 1 TB SSD to help speed things up, and it is more than capable (finally) for my editing purposes! But, I'm still going to retain using my D750, basically for the reasons Courtney mentioned, where it just feels good in the hands, and having had it so long, I know where each button is, without really having to think about it, giving me more time to decide on composition and what camera settings will give me the best result!

Excellent video Courtney. I am glad to hear that you were able to rescue your umbrella. I came up with the saying " It is not the size or number of megapixels, but, how you use them." I can take beautiful pictures with a six megapixel DSLR, just as easily as I can take garbage pictures with a camera that has four times or more the number of megapixels.

Philip here from Australia. Interestingly, I’m in the same situation as you. I’ve had a D850 for almost a year, and still have my 750 I had for years prior. Only difference is I also have a 3 legged thing L bracket, but not sure how to connect it to my tripod. So don’t use it.
Anyway, I agree with a lot of that you say, however in the last two months, my d850 has proven to me why it’s regarded as the greatest DSLR ever made. I never noticed the perfect exposure with perfect light balance it can produce until only the last few months since I got it a year ago. Perfect contrast, it’s faster focus and focusing modes.
However, the z9 is drawing me. Mirrorless may be irresistible. May need to sell everything I own just to afford it.
Great video, great angles in your video, good lighting etc. You’re killing it. Thanks.

When I owned a D850 I loved that camera. If today I was going to get a DSLR and could afford one. I would get another without any hesitation. Equally, if my budget did not stretch to the D850 or I didn't care about the extra megapixels, focus points, touchscreen or 4k video. I know the D750 would meet my needs. I use micro four-thirds nowadays simply because of weight. I can't/don't want to carry the weight of the camera and lenses. In the end, you are 100% right. It's you as the photographer that produces either a good or a bad/indifferent image. The camera is merely a tool. Although my Olympus OM1 does sit there winking at me saying.....go on pick me up take me out shooting....you know you want to......and I do 🙂

    Courtney, you’re spiffing !!
I’ve followed you for several months, each video takes me on an adventure. You make me want to hold your hand as you go, it’s such a joy !
I purchased a D610 last year for not too much €€ and I’m still learning how to use properly.
As a senior ( posh word for OAP ) I lay down for photos but getting up takes a lot longer and generates more swear words than you. So the pivoting rear screen makes me jealous and will quite possibly push me to change to a 750 as 2nd hand prices are falling. The d850 needs more piggy bank smashing than I can do. Nevertheless that decision is yet to be made so your réflexions in this comic strip were helpful to me, I may wait a year and watch.
Thank you my dear and keep up this spiffing work, there’s a good lass!!

I had the D500 and D7200. After much going back and forth, I decided to trade in the 7200 for the 850. I actually found someone in my area selling their like new 850 with a shutter count of less than 2000, so I bought that and sold my 7200 to MPB on your recommendation. I was very happy with them and wound up purchasing the Nikon 16-35 F4 from MPB. Love your videos, I get so much inspiration from them.

The D 750 is the only body that does everything among the cameras I have used and tried so far. I recently bought a Fujifilm XT4 and I have to admit that I miss it a lot, except for its cumbersomeness. Your channel contains very refined and useful information. Best wishes...

Similar process when I decided to go from my Canon 5DmIV on to the mirrorless Canon R5. The largest benefit has been the eye-detect auto-focus capability. also the EVF allows me to see adjustments on the fly. It was an expensive conversion but happy I did.

Such a nice easy way of comparing cameras, but I don't think you will find much difference when you are using them, you certainly wont get any better pictures than you get when out in the wilds! Thank you for your views on these cameras, although my days of buying cameras are over, I still do the lotto. I enjoyed your presentation in this video, well done!

I never owned a D750, but I love my D850. I especially love the great used lenses I’m picking up for so much less money while people are running to grab mirrorless cameras for top dollar.

Both great cameras and great comparaison :)
To add to the points in the differences, for the milky way shooters, the D850 "processes" the stars better, as it will less consider them as hot pixels to correct. Also less dark-ring around the stars. May influences some people in their choice. But not much for daylight landscape :)
Keep up the good work :)

I do appreciate the fact you mention that, in the end, it's not the camera but the photographer who determines the quality of the pictures. Too often people tell me you use a professional camera therefore you take great pictures.. I always try to explain that photography is a combination of skill and talent. You can put anyone in a F1 race car but that does not automatically means they will win races...
On the other hand you won't win an F1 race in a VW beetle.either.

I've a D800, a great camera and don't see the point in upgrading!
However I've fallen back in love with my D7200 recently. It's probibley the best around apsc DSLR ever made and is so intuitive to use.
I also use lumix GX9 and G9 for street and trips, mostly handheld - great cameras too 📷👍
Ps: I rarely buy new but then I'm not a Pro 😂

i am still rocking d750 and dont think to replace it so far. I have my own way to do focus stacking or panoramas, or exposure bracketing and blend all those techniques all together. Happy with weight and functionality. 24mpx sensor does beautiful 50x80 cm prints , i dont crop images more then 20% so d750 seems is perfect for what i need.

I saw the title and thought this was going to be a few years old. Oops. I still have my D850 since getting the Z9 a year ago. Just haven't got around to selling it. I've used it once or twice and am always reminded of why I don't use it much. It is a great camera of course but the Z9 just blows it away. I'm fortunate enough to be able to afford to upgrade. But if all I did was landscape, it just would not benefit me at all to do so. So vids like this will be of value for a long time yet.

I bought a d810 new in 2014 and it’s currently on its way to MPB because I’m trading it up for a d850! I’m very excited for more megapixels (big prints), the tilting and touch screen, and because I shoot at night frequently the better low-light AF, focus peaking for manual focusing (which I do a lot), and I can’t wait for lit up buttons! OMG… Lit. Up. Buttons. 🔥

The thing that I love about the 850 is that it has a setting that you can still shoot RAW but in S size lowering it to only at least 11MB per RAW file. If the 750 had the same settings maybe the 750 would be my camera forever.

such a nice story, Courtney. It helped me to decide, I want to upgrade from my old D40 that I used for the last decade, because its mirror has broken. And I keep looking at D8XX or D7/6XX.
I like the D7XX or D6XX form, it's smaller than D8XX. But, I wish Nikon updated the firmware so we can shoot a 4:5 crop in D7/D6XX.

I have D700, D750 and D800 Cameras and I still use all of them, and get great results with them. However, in my view the best all around Nikon camera today is the Z6. The Z lens are the best performing lenses for the price. The Z6 body features and ergonomics outclasses the D750. I prefer the Z6's touch screen, EV preview feature and low light capability.
I'm growing into my Z8 camera with NIKKOR 400/4.5 S lens, which I'm using for action and wildlife photography. However, I have just acquired a new Z6 II camera which I think is the best walk about hybrid camera combined with the NIKKOR 24 -120/4 S for most users. Keep in mind that if you are going to buy a full frame camera, you need to consider a camera that provides the best value and enhances your ability to grow as a photographer. If you can find a good used Z6 or Z6 II., then grab it.

I dithered back and forth over a 750 or 850. I did get a nice used low mileage D750 for a very good price. I finally decided on it as I’m mostly a film user these days and have some nice f mount lenses for my F4 and they are very usable and capable on the D750. The D850 would have cost me considerably more and since I got a Z7 for my birthday two yrs ago I didn’t need the extra pixels of the 850. I have no Z mount lenses but rather use the FTZ adapter and have been very happy using my old lenses on the Z7

I'm currently shopping for a D750, or wondering if I should be, so this was a very nice video. What lovely country in the rain. One little negative thing I would say is that your photos do not need titles. Now I have to go find some waterfalls.

Nice work. I also upgraded from a D610 to a D850. IQ wise, theres is a small upgrade, but features wise, in terms of practibility, it makes the diference in helping focus in the most important, the focus in the moment.
