Definitely an interesting point. I think mainly the commercial artists get disrespected not for the materialism, but because they usually don't have anything in their songs to balance it. I see the same things you see when I watch this, but what I'm really focused on is the creative wordplay, effortless rhythm in the flow, and the complex multisyllable rhyme schemes. Materialistic and boastful? Absolutely, BUT with very skillful craftmanship that's lacking in most (not all) mainstream music.
