As an official opera nut of almost 40.years, I was able to hear his magnificent singing in a recital at the start of his career in person. Last week I purchased the CD "Moscow Nights" and this was the first song on the album. It sent me over the deep end. Although I'm only 55, my Dad served in WW II. Another CZcams sight featured Hvorostovsky with the heading "Best baritone of our age." I posted back "By the words 'of our age' did you mean starting in Genesis and continuing on into the unknown future?"
The best ever? Well it's probably discutable for a few, but the most charismatic, elegant singer, also a very good actor with at least for me the most expressive voice? Yes I think he is.
When we are young, life puts a feast before us, a feast of beauty and riches. For those of us who squander these gifts, each of our remaining days on this earth is a special kind of torture, a torture we only escape by learning to turn away or by shutting off the feelings that were once what was best in us.
One my coworkers had not heard of the late Dmitri Hvorostovsky, so today I sent her this video via email and decided to share at my facebook page, too.
