Word of advice. Don't say he's fucked up or he's doing it wrong. There are different ways to play and some are better and more efficient than others. Try saying this is what he did but this is how I would have done it to be more efficient.
I'm not doubting you know your stuff, because it indeed seems like that, but if you want to grow your channel and pick up more viewers, trash talking and bashing people isn't the way, it makes you come off way too arrogant, and it turns people away from your videos, which is sad, when you obviously know a lot about paladins and can help play the best they can. But it comes off way better without the trash-talking and the arrogance.
No content gets created without "Motivation". That motivation can be Money, Ego, Pride, Narsasism. In my case its none of this but a cycle of... 1. Want to learn how best to Paladin 2. Go Playtest and find things no one else knows 3. Watch videos of other paladins doing it WRONG 4. Get upset and make video... This is where the "Aggression" comes in and why "I Don't Care" is a thing. Normally I would just stay in my lane of PvP with this VAST array of knowledge and not care about how paladins "Have Fun" leveling. But Hard Core is a different Animal. Its PvE taken at the seriousness level of PvP. if not MORE so. TLDR = SUDDENLY there is an objectively RIGHT way to level PvE and a WRONG way to level PvE backed up by consequences. This is what's forcing the creation of these videos. The Old Meta of "Speed Running" was always dumb. I ascribed to "Have Fun" Meta. But Hardcore is different... More of a "Dont' die + Be SO CHAD that you can solo save your friends as well"@@kulviks

I wish your language was a little more clean and your tone a little less condescending. I don't know much about paladins, but I decided to work on one in hardcore after leveling 2 hunters in som, 1 duo hunter, 1 selfmade hunter, 1 naked hunter, a lock and a priest. I would certainly hate to be blasted by someone like you for my endeavors. I have done all you mistakes because all the guides have said that's the way to do it. I am currently 41 on my pally. I hope to get to 60, but if not, I will go again. That's how one learns, and should be blasted for it. If we only did what we knew how to do, we'd never learn anything.
Always fun to see how even good players with experience competing can make mistakes in failing to question things they take for granted (such as weapon and attribute selection), which on review obviously need to change for HC.

So, I'm leveling with a mage friend, always questing together. Is this still thw optimal build? We're not having too much trouble, and I'm with the classic slow weapon build with crusader.
One problem with current HC - you can't reliably get stam/int mail since most quest rewards and dungeon drops are str based. Will be better on official HC with AH for sure.
Yeah, and it gets dumber because you would think "use leather instead" which I keep advising people, forgetting that most leather gear = Stam / Agi lol.
I would suggest to change Auras Instead of SoC...use SoW. I have noticed a HUGE impact on mana regen and then I use JoL to keep my health up. If you want to flip flop it go ahead. I also use JoJ if I suspect a runner. So this is IMO...the best option, YES, your DPS is going to be lower.......but you will have mana and health and like I said you can Switch whenever you want. This changes when you are in a Dungeon!! As long as the healer is competent. That is entirely a different beast.
I mean, even in the course of trying to show this stuff you're fucking it up too so it's not really too surprising that a guy like Xaryu who doesn't just focus on this class (paladin is an afterthought for him) is also making mistakes... You make some good points but I think your gear is considerably better than his. Showing your dps would've been a good idea as well just so there were some hard numbers for us to look at when comparing setups. Would highly recommend Plater - gives you some kind of heads up about the abilities that mobs have when you mouseover them - info at your fingertips keeps you from dying to getting knocked down, netted, etc and not being prepared for it to happen at all.
Man your videos have a lot of good info. But…they are almost impossible to watch. You jump from one thing to an other, you talk to much etc. make your videos scripted. I wrote down the majority of information you provided and I made a 10 minute script, containing almost everything. Your video is 52 freaking minutes and it’s not entertaining. Paladin is honestly one of the classes I'm more interested in rolling on HC when official servers are live, despite their leveling reputation. Thanks for going into detail in this video and others on some of the different leveling playstyles and which are more optimal; it's been very eye-opening as someone who has read/seen guides to run builds similar to what Xaryu is running almost exclusively!
I'm a total Normy, but I have taken about 90% of Pallytime's advice. I'm not on HC, just norm servers, got a Stam/Intell pally that is legit close to god tier level. I'v been half health, half mana, two mobs deep getting ganked by a rogue and won(pots, bandages the whole farmhouse) just saying. Confirmed. There is something to the tanky, Intel heavy, 1 H pally.
Tried Ret in hardcore, but i didn't like it. Since i'm used to Spiritual Focus i tend to misjudge the time i have for healing. Perhaps that's why he thought he had to use FoL, to reduce the pushback? Without Spiritual Focus it can add a significant amount of time to your heal. To the gear of the eagle thing: In old hardcore, without the AH you don't get much of those. With the old hardcore rules you get only one dungeon run. So good luck getting any mail pieces with Int on it. You pretty much have to farm your Int from quests or vendors. I can also unterstand his tendency to trade mana for damage, that's what a mage player would do and old habits are difficult to break i guess? Also as a streamer he can't meme the auto attack andy. ;)=)
@@lumbermill8588 I was finding leather stam /int was ok with an up to date shield and armor aura. Mail / Int just makes you go a little super sayan.

@@pallytime2156 If you do the Scrounging quest in the Badlands with 35 and do it with the Ogres in the north (35-36) you get a 1400 armor shield that holds for quite a while. 1400 armor at level 35 is big. There is a nice shield progression through quests on the alliance side but if you're really unlucky you can always make a visit to the nearest shield vendor.
Healing Resets your auto attack timer. So you can't really HIT the target and Heal very well at all. The only way it works is to hit them and then Heal... but even then you lose 1.5s of DPS and its usually 100% not worth it, and as you might imagine that is hard to time without losing even more DPS. Meanwhile... Pushback Mechanics = you lose 1s first hit then .5 and then .25 and so on into oblivion. BUT you cannot be pushed back more then you have currently casted. So if you have been casting .2s and get hit for 1s of push back... you lose .2s of cast time. Point is you want to START a Holy light case vs multiple enemies moments before they hit you. You will get hit twice, lose .5s of casting but only lose another .325 seconds the next 2 hits and get out that holy light in 3.325s One Holy Light Heal is worth 3.5-4 FoL's depending on Spell Power. Point is... USE THE DAMN HOLY LIGHT.
Sorry but I can't agree with this. You are not putting out enough damage. This will cause extra adds and hyperspawns to overwhelm and add more to the mix. Also focus down the casters first. The melee will do physical damage that will be mitigated by your armor. The Devotion Aura is debatable.
I re-thought about it and I am WRONG I think. If Command Procs X times per Min regardless of wep speed. And its proc is my DPS x Wep Speed + Wep Damage... then it would do more damage the slower it is. 9 bonus Attacks from a flurry axe a min vs from MoM for example. Not the same. So I am wrong.
@@pallytime2156 weapon swing timer and sit/stand right as the attack occurs to proc. It resets auto attack. I plan to do a holy/reckoning build for new hardcore for groups and general enjoyment. I don't see many videos and when I do, they attempt to 5 stack each time making it inefficient.
@@pallytime2156 it's different than the private servers. Due to the way the servers are with latency or something similar. Like when two mages polymorph each other or rogues gouge one another, the same principle applies. You sit and then stand at the weapon swing timer of the mob to refresh the auto attack and gain another attack. I would do this with seal of wisdom and seal of light to refresh mana/up. Then with SoR chunk through mobs. Sucks versus caster mobs of course. I was proccing redoubt with a paladin I played like a year ago but can't test it because I deleted him and my other paladin ported to TBC and WOTLK. Don't really want to level a paladin to 10 to test it with redout if you say it's taken away completely.
I been playing pally for a while, it was my first character to 60 in vanillia. There are some thing I do not agree with in this video and some I do agree. Some things need to point out. He is Ret and you are Holy. Saying he should not be using a 2h as ret is not really right, especially when he has seal of command. You do not have seal of command so obviously sword and board is going to better for you. Its honestly 2 different play styles. I agree with 2hander weapons being faster is much better for pally. The faster you can swing the more chances for seal of command to proc. Slow weapons are ok because seal of command is 70% of the weapon's damage as holy, so slower weapons = bigger SoC damage. But I would rather have faster 2h because like you said RNG is a bitch in this game. Some fights are going to be 3 shot a mob and some fights are going to be wtf, parry, parry, dodge, miss. Blessing of might is just better at Ret, especially if you have improved might. Wisdom is good if you have low mana and you pulled an extra mob and you in conserve mana mode. But mostly going to use might 99% of the time. Devotion aura prob gonna be best no matter what. Yea they are casters but they don't non stop cast, they do throw in melee. You could use concentration aura if you wanted but you are losing a lot of armor. I think ret aura is just not that good, especially at low level, rank 1 is 5 damage, and rank 2 is only 8. Its trash. Its only use I found was in raven hill those ghouls that spawn the 2 worms one shot them selves on it. Any mob that has adds that swarm with 1 hp ret aura is gonna shine there. Seals - (as ret) Seal of crusader judging that on a mob is useless using a 2h weapon. Unless its a boss. The reason is RNG is a bitch. I have had seal of crusader fall off because of 3 misses in a row. So its pointless to apply it on normal questing mobs. When you judge seal of crusader it makes holy damage do more damage. But this doesn't apply to ret aura, that damage stays the same even tho its holy damage. I know it doesnt make sense. So that is why ret aura is just not good. Seal of command is RNG but if you like RNG then its fun. When you get 3 command procs in a row or see normal crit and a command crit at same time is just so sweet. He is holy and using 1 hander so applying seal of crusader is fine because his attacks are so fast it won't fall off. Spamming judgement with command / righteousness. Yea I agree with you on that, it's not really good to just spam it, unless you need to burn down a mob fast. It just better to save the mana for heals. I use it at start just to tag a mob because people be stealing mobs from you and this is your only way to tag, unless you're fighting undead. Gear - for some reason you want to level as holy so yea it makes sense to use intellect gear. But as ret Strength is good. Because it gives you not only attack power, but it also gives armor. Saying strength is not good as ret is just not correct at all. The thing is you are going to increase your time to kill with strength while increasing your armor. Yea your mana pool is low but your heals don't cost a lot of mana and they heal for a lot. All that armor all that strength is going to help not be squishy. Since you are holy and using int gear you are actually going to be more squishy, but you have the shield to compensate. But ret is going to be better for time to kill on mobs which is going to help with respawns. If it takes you too long to kill something respawns will kill you. One thing I forgot to add, judging with seal of command. Best to use it during a hammer stun. It does more damage. What Xaryu does wrong in this video is judging SoC then stunning with hammer. Hammer then judge is the play. 2 different playstyles here. But I understand where you coming from is that you like more consistent damage where as ret and seal of command is more RNG playstyle.
That's a LOT of reading. This video is quite old you should watch the more modern stuff. We are using Spirt gear on almost all builds and finding ways to turn Mana into Damage, particularly in certain areas on certain mobs with Exorcism if your into that. TLDR on Spirt seems to be 8 points = 1 mana per Second Regen. And if you know anything about paladin we can front load and have MASSIVE Spirt Regen Down time. Its scary to watch 15s mob kills with no drinking needed level 40+ just mob to mob to mob...
Firstly this video has good timing. There is a wave of people returning to classic nonHC atm so its a good time to pump some classic videos. 3:00 before anything even gets going I know this is going to be about leveling as ret with a 2h lol. Honestly I prefer that over sword and board 100% also and will comment on why if that turns out to be the care for the hate. 3:20 That was an elite mob.. 5:50 Ok as a 2h pally classic ret main I thought this was going to be a "never do 2h video" lol but I would agree 2h on normal is fine but if I was on HC I would 100% only use 1h and shield. After tanking some dungeons before as ret vs a real tank you know the damage mitigation a shield can bring especially against multiple mobs. Not bringing a shield every where you go on HC I would agree is a mistake. I was typing some massive breakdown of the different styles and it got deleted lol Ill keep it short. On non HC str 2h pally is better imo but it largely comes down to how you level. Personally after about level 16 I dungeon spam mostly to cap. I found that dps of a sor ret is at worst half of that of a command pally and your working twice as hard. Sor pally is really only good if your solo questing or grinding mobs most of your leveling but if your in group atmospheres the extra damage from command is far more useful then sor. Command pallies also do good damage in dungeons its not like you should just tank because your bad you actually do good damage and stuns, bubbles and di are awesome things for a dps to bring. On my pally I have saved more wipes run backs then I can even count with di. Alot of people scoff at the idea of bring a dps pally but honestly I would rather bring a good dps pally then a non hybrid to any dungeon. On the mana topic leveling via dungeons I found I always needed mana and needed to drink constantly just to keep relevant on the dps meter compared to other classes but when I swapped to command I found I used far less mana and could actually keep my dps up with almost using nothing after the mp5 regen. Often even I opt for might over wisdom because I need so little mana on command. You could use mana on cons or something for extra dps but it was far from needed to keep your numbers on par with other dps specs. When it comes to command there is 2 ways to play. The normal way is use max level seal and judge on cooldown. The gimmick way is to use level 1 crusader and level 1 command and swap them around to try and get your swing timer faster and get command procs faster. Honestly I never did this because I found it super annoying. I only ever used max ranks unless I had no mana then I down rank and in my experience I maybe found 1 pally that could do more damage then me using that juke method. If I had to guess its like a 5 to 10% damage increase for like 100% more work. Maybe Im a casual but I was more then happy to take that cut to use max ranks. The damage from actually judging and it being good damage I think keeps your damage numbers close to the rank 1 cheesers and you can relax and enjoy a beer instead of sperging out on your keyboard. I also would argue that most the people trying to rank 1 juke are probably doing it badly and that is why I could keep up and or beat them most of the time. Its not an easy thing to do and if you make any mistakes doing it then your probably better off playing the normal way of max ranking. I started releveling on era because I never bought a clone.. Maybe I record some dungeons so you can kind of see my retailer take on how to run 2h classic ret.
You can say rank1 command spam is better but in my experience the only time it could be better is in raiding or solo questing. Dungeons are far to dynamic and your going to make mistakes often enough that using max ranks normally will put out more damage for most people. Im not just counting myself Im counting every pally I ever ran into in the 6 seasons of era and 3 seasons of som. Like the people that can do this good in a dungeon atmosphere is the less then 1%.
Hmmm. I agree to a large extent on what you are saying in dungeons for non HC. For HC though I would cringe at the idea of letting you mana bar dip low going for DPS. Paladin emergency off healing on HC > just about anything else you can do. If you watch the video in full I am not hating on 2 hander. I am hating on slow 2 hander in HC... and then wondering why not Stam/Int if we going fast 2 hander anyways? I think I make my point showing the power 2 fast 2 hander int has. 25 SoR damage at 2.5s is competative with Command.
As a Pally Tank...I never run out of Mana or Health. In "Theory" a Ret Pally shouldn't also. Yes, it is a pain to switch Auras and Judge Differently...that is why we talk and possibly learn from each other. :) No one is actually correct ever! What works for me? Might not apply to you :(
@@pallytime2156 Killing the 3 elites at once was extreamly well managed. I do totally agree that stam / int is a far more stable way to play paladin. Its similar to leveling ele Shaman over Enhancement. Still you were comparing your character to a character two levels lower with far worse gear, just compare how much hp you had vs him. You had a hell of a lot more, also his character was not max weapon skill or defence. Im fairly sure if you had his ilvl of gear you would have also not been able to take on 2 elites at once in that location.

Look man, blacksmithing is the best way to ensure you have armor backed up by the ah, but the darn blizzard co doest care about players cause there are nearly no int/Stam bs recipes, thus we wear what we can make, str stam.. I totally wish we could get int/stam/spirit(before it was deleted), but the ah is hit and miss and price gouging sucks
LOL!! If that's the take away your missing the point. Xaryu went 1v2 almost died, half killed one, and had to RUN. I go 1v3 repeatedly and win. That's and OCEAN of difference in performance. All my gear is AH greens.

Doesn't matter / work that way. If you FoL in PvP your healing is so pathetic that the enemy doesn't even have to kick you. FoL in full healing gear is lucky to heal for 800 in pvp, compared to HoL's 3k. 15s of healing FoL = 8k vs HoL's 18k Kicks are rarer and hard than you would think as well. There is a bit of an art to avoiding getting kicked. Your heals are 40y and most ranged kicks are 20y. Warlock Fear, Shaman E-shock for example. Warrior / Druid Charge, Succubus Suduction, Mage Sheep, Mage Counter Spell, Nade and a few trinkets are the only Ranged interupts in the game. Warrior and Rogue countered by just BoPing yourself and keep healing most of the time. Nade and Goblin Mortar not so hot when you have high Fire Resist (which you should have as a healer) The other issue most of the interrupts have is that the price of Interupting you is that do less damage to the thing trying to be killed. Getting E-Shocked, or a mage taking the time to sheep you which will instantly be removed do to blessing of Sac, for example, is damage not being done to your ally so its just as good as a heal often. Warrior intercept / interupted you? Cool, BoP self and start healing. One less Horde doing damage anytime soon. Shadow Priest running at you to fear you? Stop healing and run away. You not healing but they not doing damage. The simple truth is that most classes can do about 1800 damage in 2.5s. So if you are FoLing 800 and not getting interupted vs HoLing and getting interupted... VERY quickly you can see why one is better than the other. 2 DPS on the guy your healing makes FoL LAUGHABLY BAD.
No. If you are healing you should be off in Narnia 30y or more away from the action. That's about 4s of run time back into the fighting... then back to you... just for you to likely tell them to sit down with a 6s stun while you keep healing. Slowed or hamstrung = WORSE for them. They are just kind of stuck out their with you watching you heal people. Note: A paladin free healing HoL for 10s = Horde Loses whatever fight was happening. So its easy mop up after. Just remember to have your blessing of sac on something to break blind or pvp trinket it at worse. Fire Resist for Nades. If other healers are around we DO NOT stand near each other so whoever gets it gets the BoP and the Narnia Nightmare for the rogue / War. Rogue could sprint over to non-BoP target but it will be into 6s stun if paladin or fear if priest. Ally warriors LOVE intercepting rogues doing this though and clapping cheeks. Ally Mages also like sheeping them, freezing them. Hunters just kill them... You would be SHOCKED how fast allies swap targets to rouges in the rear on their healers. Its a bad time for War / Rogue. Mages will blink forward, counterspell you and get Intercepted by warrior and forced to IB as they go for a sheep on other healer. Very common. But its not enough... as the warrior just used their blink into narnia to incerpet out of danger. They can easily live until the CS wares off even if other healer like a priest can't heal tell you can BoP them. Mages without IB die with no IB's which is FAR more common and so rarely done. First issue I see is he doesn't have engineering target dummies. He should also be rocking the greater healing potion, being he is 21. Devotion aura is BiS for single target fights. So many things... RIP
@11:42 For myself (a Prot Pally btw). I use Seal of Wisdom and then use Judgement of Light. This keeps my Health and Mana on the Upside. Even when I do pull two elite mobs. The only problem (When 3 or more) is that they run. If I know they run my last Judgement will be Justice I also use Sanctuary Aura when available. I will stick with my gear composition which is Stamina/Agility/Strength and Intel, not in that order. Pally Tanks can be OP..IF used Properly. Classic (Vanilla) gear doesn't really drop for Pally's it is all Warrior gear.. So Plate Stam/Intel for Pally's is your recommendation. Personally? I use SoW and JoL.. As long as I have Mana and Health? I will win, PERIOD As for "Mitch the B*tch"..he does this all the time for Twitch money and then complains. I have seen him FAIL on numerous YT video content makers including your video. Nothing new. Drama works? Right?
*shrugs* no idea. I can see JoL and SoW working but most paladin AoE farm guides use JoW SoW but that's when you gear gets good. Until then there are times I am JoL SoW for sure. Or just pulling less. Stam / Int plate has always been a thing for Paladins. If you check the AH you will see of the Eagle Plate gear but very rare to see Mail stam / int gear. This is because everyone knows that level 40+ Paladins be going AoE farming with mage water. Drakova likes doing 2 hander, 1 mob at a time, Tiger gear (Str / Agi). He doesn't quest, just finds an area where he can kill 1 mob at a time with no pats, netflix and chill style.

Using game mechanics is far superior than saying this Weapon is OP or that the person playing the game is an IDIOT! I stand by my OP saying that SoW and JoL is far more optimal than Stam and Intel. @@Delekham That works until you realize that per point stam = 10hp, Str =.14 DPS or less (so +1 DPS per 7 str), Int = 15 mana and I think a little spell crit (probably wrong about that), Agility is 1% crit per 14 points. Str and Agi are designed to synergize into being "effective" with you talent points DEEP in the Ret Tree. Until then they are lackluster in the EXTREME. This is compounded by it being HARD CORE where Survivability > than anything else. I have tested ALL the different gearing we paladins can use to level, Stam / Int with mage water was by FAR the best. It has similar DPS and kill times to Deep Ret with the BEST weapons. Slightly slower kill times... like 22 vs 20 second single target kills when using 1 hander. That "Blue" two hander is a level 18 blue being used at level 24 (I think? 22?). If you know your weapons you will know that Blue -4 levels is = to Green at level. So if I was level 24 a level 20 Blue and a level 24 green would do the same dps. TLDR. Say I had 70 stam / 70 X stats to spend in gear. Stam / Str = +700hp / +10 white DPS (subject to armor, buffed by Crit / Command) Stam / Int = +700hp / 1050 Mana. If you use the mana offensively your kill times + recover times are about the same as the str stam. Defensively their is no contest. One paladin has +700hp vs +2800hp. As mana can be turned into healing 2 to 1 Ratio. I did a video, leveling Season of Mastery where I PAINFULLY testing every gear combo, kill times + recovery. Stam / Int is legit #1 for Hard Core. No question. Have a video me soloing Stiches and SM GY (which admittedly was WAY easier than I thought it would be).

@@Delekham Lol. You can Naked as paladin 1 to 60... there is even an achievement for it. #1 Rule of paladin leveling is "HAVE FUN > Anything Else. One of my more recent videos I am VERY clear about this. I just keep getting people asking me questions about what is BEST. I roughly know what's best and why So I answer. But Have Fun is the order of the day with any class. My assumption is that people go Stam / Str two hander because its "best" and "Best = Fun" to them. Which is fine. But its definitely not best. Hard Core just make it worse.

How you figure? LOL No diminishing returns on Amor in Classic. 550 armor = +10% Effective HP. Dis HC... I would rather be alive than dead. And these elite mobs don't exactly tickle, nore do they have so little HP that Ret Aura going to make a differance.

Using Ret Aura seems to be an obsession (as well as 2 handed weapons) with a lot of the streamers... they want to show big damage numbers and forget that they are solo and that they are NOT max level and in a nonHC game. Watched so many of them pull these stupid moves, dying, and dying from Greed at grabbing too many opponents or going after stupid things like chests in caves etc. IN reality they forget that Ret builds are BROKEN in Classic.

This is where the "Aggression" comes in and why "I Don't Care" is a thing.
Normally I would just stay in my lane of PvP with this VAST array of knowledge and not care about how paladins "Have Fun" leveling.
But Hard Core is a different Animal. Its PvE taken at the seriousness level of PvP. if not MORE so.
TLDR = SUDDENLY there is an objectively RIGHT way to level PvE and a WRONG way to level PvE backed up by consequences.

I wish your language was a little more clean and your tone a little less condescending. I don't know much about paladins, but I decided to work on one in hardcore after leveling 2 hunters in som, 1 duo hunter, 1 selfmade hunter, 1 naked hunter, a lock and a priest. I would certainly hate to be blasted by someone like you for my endeavors. I have done all you mistakes because all the guides have said that's the way to do it. I am currently 41 on my pally. I hope to get to 60, but if not, I will go again. That's how one learns, and should be blasted for it. If we only did what we knew how to do, we'd never learn anything.

So, I'm leveling with a mage friend, always questing together. Is this still thw optimal build? We're not having too much trouble, and I'm with the classic slow weapon build with crusader.
One problem with current HC - you can't reliably get stam/int mail since most quest rewards and dungeon drops are str based. Will be better on official HC with AH for sure.
Yeah, and it gets dumber because you would think "use leather instead" which I keep advising people, forgetting that most leather gear = Stam / Agi lol.
I would suggest to change Auras Instead of SoC...use SoW. I have noticed a HUGE impact on mana regen and then I use JoL to keep my health up.
If you want to flip flop it go ahead. I also use JoJ if I suspect a runner.
So this is IMO...the best option, YES, your DPS is going to be lower.......but you will have mana and health and like I said you can Switch whenever you want.
This changes when you are in a Dungeon!! As long as the healer is competent. That is entirely a different beast.

I mean, even in the course of trying to show this stuff you're fucking it up too so it's not really too surprising that a guy like Xaryu who doesn't just focus on this class (paladin is an afterthought for him) is also making mistakes... You make some good points but I think your gear is considerably better than his. Showing your dps would've been a good idea as well just so there were some hard numbers for us to look at when comparing setups. Would highly recommend Plater - gives you some kind of heads up about the abilities that mobs have when you mouseover them - info at your fingertips keeps you from dying to getting knocked down, netted, etc and not being prepared for it to happen at all.
Man your videos have a lot of good info. But…they are almost impossible to watch. You jump from one thing to an other, you talk to much etc. make your videos scripted. I wrote down the majority of information you provided and I made a 10 minute script, containing almost everything. Your video is 52 freaking minutes and it’s not entertaining. If it was that’s an other story
Paladin is honestly one of the classes I'm more interested in rolling on HC when official servers are live, despite their leveling reputation. Thanks for going into detail in this video and others on some of the different leveling playstyles and which are more optimal; it's been very eye-opening as someone who has read/seen guides to run builds similar to what Xaryu is running almost exclusively!

You go 2 hander even with Stam/Int or Stam/Spirt... sword and board is 11% less damage round about but much better survivability.

I'm not on HC, just norm servers, got a Stam/Intell pally that is legit close to god tier level. I'v been half health, half mana, two mobs deep getting ganked by a rogue and won(pots, bandages the whole farmhouse) just saying.

Tried Ret in hardcore, but i didn't like it. Since i'm used to Spiritual Focus i tend to misjudge the time i have for healing. Perhaps that's why he thought he had to use FoL, to reduce the pushback?
Without Spiritual Focus it can add a significant amount of time to your heal.
To the gear of the eagle thing: In old hardcore, without the AH you don't get much of those. With the old hardcore rules you get only one dungeon run. So good luck getting any mail pieces with Int on it. You pretty much have to farm your Int from quests or vendors.
I can also unterstand his tendency to trade mana for damage, that's what a mage player would do and old habits are difficult to break i guess? Also as a streamer he can't meme the auto attack andy. ;)=)
You can stack str/stm easy enough with black smithing, mail gear with int/stam that drops in dungeons is going straight to the paladin healer.
@@lumbermill8588 I was finding leather stam /int was ok with an up to date shield and armor aura. Mail / Int just makes you go a little super sayan.
@@pallytime2156 If you do the Scrounging quest in the Badlands with 35 and do it with the Ogres in the north (35-36) you get a 1400 armor shield that holds for quite a while. 1400 armor at level 35 is big.
There is a nice shield progression through quests on the alliance side but if you're really unlucky you can always make a visit to the nearest shield vendor.

Flash of light can be more efficient depending on the enemy attack speed.
Healing Resets your auto attack timer. So you can't really HIT the target and Heal very well at all. The only way it works is to hit them and then Heal... but even then you lose 1.5s of DPS and its usually 100% not worth it, and as you might imagine that is hard to time without losing even more DPS.
Meanwhile...
Pushback Mechanics = you lose 1s first hit then .5 and then .25 and so on into oblivion. BUT you cannot be pushed back more then you have currently casted. So if you have been casting .2s and get hit for 1s of push back... you lose .2s of cast time.
Point is you want to START a Holy light case vs multiple enemies moments before they hit you.
You will get hit twice, lose .5s of casting but only lose another .325 seconds the next 2 hits and get out that holy light in 3.325s
One Holy Light Heal is worth 3.5-4 FoL's depending on Spell Power.
Point is... USE THE DAMN HOLY LIGHT.

Sorry but I can't agree with this. You are not putting out enough damage. This will cause extra adds and hyperspawns to overwhelm and add more to the mix. Also focus down the casters first. The melee will do physical damage that will be mitigated by your armor. The Devotion Aura is debatable.
You are lvl 23!!! Xaryu was 21!! He missed weapon skills.... that's huge deal! But yeah, I get some of the points are fare.
The slow weapon theory also applies to shaman 2h enhancement.
I re-thought about it and I am WRONG I think. If Command Procs X times per Min regardless of wep speed. And its proc is my DPS x Wep Speed + Wep Damage... then it would do more damage the slower it is.
9 bonus Attacks from a flurry axe a min vs from MoM for example. Not the same.

I plan to do a holy/reckoning build for new hardcore for groups and general enjoyment. I don't see many videos and when I do, they attempt to 5 stack each time making it inefficient.

Like when two mages polymorph each other or rogues gouge one another, the same principle applies.
You sit and then stand at the weapon swing timer of the mob to refresh the auto attack and gain another attack.
I would do this with seal of wisdom and seal of light to refresh mana/up.
Then with SoR chunk through mobs. Sucks versus caster mobs of course.
I was proccing redoubt with a paladin I played like a year ago but can't test it because I deleted him and my other paladin ported to TBC and WOTLK.

I been playing pally for a while, it was my first character to 60 in vanillia. There are some thing I do not agree with in this video and some I do agree.
Some things need to point out. He is Ret and you are Holy. Saying he should not be using a 2h as ret is not really right, especially when he has seal of command. You do not have seal of command so obviously sword and board is going to better for you. Its honestly 2 different play styles.
I agree with 2hander weapons being faster is much better for pally. The faster you can swing the more chances for seal of command to proc. Slow weapons are ok because seal of command is 70% of the weapon's damage as holy, so slower weapons = bigger SoC damage. But I would rather have faster 2h because like you said RNG is a bitch in this game. Some fights are going to be 3 shot a mob and some fights are going to be wtf, parry, parry, dodge, miss.
Blessing of might is just better at Ret, especially if you have improved might. Wisdom is good if you have low mana and you pulled an extra mob and you in conserve mana mode. But mostly going to use might 99% of the time.
Devotion aura prob gonna be best no matter what. Yea they are casters but they don't non stop cast, they do throw in melee. You could use concentration aura if you wanted but you are losing a lot of armor. I think ret aura is just not that good, especially at low level, rank 1 is 5 damage, and rank 2 is only 8. Its trash. Its only use I found was in raven hill those ghouls that spawn the 2 worms one shot them selves on it. Any mob that has adds that swarm with 1 hp ret aura is gonna shine there.
Seals - (as ret) Seal of crusader judging that on a mob is useless using a 2h weapon. Unless its a boss. The reason is RNG is a bitch. I have had seal of crusader fall off because of 3 misses in a row. So its pointless to apply it on normal questing mobs. When you judge seal of crusader it makes holy damage do more damage. But this doesn't apply to ret aura, that damage stays the same even tho its holy damage. I know it doesnt make sense. So that is why ret aura is just not good. Seal of command is RNG but if you like RNG then its fun. When you get 3 command procs in a row or see normal crit and a command crit at same time is just so sweet.
He is holy and using 1 hander so applying seal of crusader is fine because his attacks are so fast it won't fall off.
Spamming judgement with command / righteousness. Yea I agree with you on that, it's not really good to just spam it, unless you need to burn down a mob fast. It just better to save the mana for heals. I use it at start just to tag a mob because people be stealing mobs from you and this is your only way to tag, unless you're fighting undead.
Gear - for some reason you want to level as holy so yea it makes sense to use intellect gear. But as ret Strength is good. Because it gives you not only attack power, but it also gives armor. Saying strength is not good as ret is just not correct at all. The thing is you are going to increase your time to kill with strength while increasing your armor. Yea your mana pool is low but your heals don't cost a lot of mana and they heal for a lot. All that armor all that strength is going to help not be squishy. Since you are holy and using int gear you are actually going to be more squishy, but you have the shield to compensate. But ret is going to be better for time to kill on mobs which is going to help with respawns. If it takes you too long to kill something respawns will kill you.
One thing I forgot to add, judging with seal of command. Best to use it during a hammer stun. It does more damage. What Xaryu does wrong in this video is judging SoC then stunning with hammer. Hammer then judge is the play.
2 different playstyles here. But I understand where you coming from is that you like more consistent damage where as ret and seal of command is more RNG playstyle.
That's a LOT of reading. This video is quite old you should watch the more modern stuff. We are using Spirt gear on almost all builds and finding ways to turn Mana into Damage, particularly in certain areas on certain mobs with Exorcism if your into that.
TLDR on Spirt seems to be 8 points = 1 mana per Second Regen.
And if you know anything about paladin we can front load and have MASSIVE Spirt Regen Down time.
Its scary to watch 15s mob kills with no drinking needed level 40+ just mob to mob to mob...

5:50 Ok as a 2h pally classic ret main I thought this was going to be a "never do 2h video" lol but I would agree 2h on normal is fine but if I was on HC I would 100% only use 1h and shield. After tanking some dungeons before as ret vs a real tank you know the damage mitigation a shield can bring especially against multiple mobs. Not bringing a shield every where you go on HC I would agree is a mistake.
I was typing some massive breakdown of the different styles and it got deleted lol Ill keep it short. On non HC str 2h pally is better imo but it largely comes down to how you level. Personally after about level 16 I dungeon spam mostly to cap. I found that dps of a sor ret is at worst half of that of a command pally and your working twice as hard. Sor pally is really only good if your solo questing or grinding mobs most of your leveling but if your in group atmospheres the extra damage from command is far more useful then sor. Command pallies also do good damage in dungeons its not like you should just tank because your bad you actually do good damage and stuns, bubbles and di are awesome things for a dps to bring. On my pally I have saved more wipes run backs then I can even count with di. Alot of people scoff at the idea of bring a dps pally but honestly I would rather bring a good dps pally then a non hybrid to any dungeon.
On the mana topic leveling via dungeons I found I always needed mana and needed to drink constantly just to keep relevant on the dps meter compared to other classes but when I swapped to command I found I used far less mana and could actually keep my dps up with almost using nothing after the mp5 regen. Often even I opt for might over wisdom because I need so little mana on command. You could use mana on cons or something for extra dps but it was far from needed to keep your numbers on par with other dps specs.
When it comes to command there is 2 ways to play. The normal way is use max level seal and judge on cooldown. The gimmick way is to use level 1 crusader and level 1 command and swap them around to try and get your swing timer faster and get command procs faster. Honestly I never did this because I found it super annoying. I only ever used max ranks unless I had no mana then I down rank and in my experience I maybe found 1 pally that could do more damage then me using that juke method. If I had to guess its like a 5 to 10% damage increase for like 100% more work. Maybe Im a casual but I was more then happy to take that cut to use max ranks. The damage from actually judging and it being good damage I think keeps your damage numbers close to the rank 1 cheesers and you can relax and enjoy a beer instead of sperging out on your keyboard. I also would argue that most the people trying to rank 1 juke are probably doing it badly and that is why I could keep up and or beat them most of the time. Its not an easy thing to do and if you make any mistakes doing it then your probably better off playing the normal way of max ranking.
I started releveling on era because I never bought a clone.. Maybe I record some dungeons so you can kind of see my retailer take on how to run 2h classic ret.
You can say rank1 command spam is better but in my experience the only time it could be better is in raiding or solo questing. Dungeons are far to dynamic and your going to make mistakes often enough that using max ranks normally will put out more damage for most people. Im not just counting myself Im counting every pally I ever ran into in the 6 seasons of era and 3 seasons of som. Like the people that can do this good in a dungeon atmosphere is the less then 1%.

Hmmm. I agree to a large extent on what you are saying in dungeons for non HC. For HC though I would cringe at the idea of letting you mana bar dip low going for DPS. Paladin emergency off healing on HC > just about anything else you can do.
If you watch the video in full I am not hating on 2 hander. I am hating on slow 2 hander in HC... and then wondering why not Stam/Int if we going fast 2 hander anyways? I think I make my point showing the power 2 fast 2 hander int has.
25 SoR damage at 2.5s is competative with Command.
As a Pally Tank...I never run out of Mana or Health. In "Theory" a Ret Pally shouldn't also. Yes, it is a pain to switch Auras and Judge Differently...that is why we talk and possibly learn from each other. :) No one is actually correct ever! What works for me? Might not apply to you :(

@@pallytime2156 Killing the 3 elites at once was extreamly well managed. I do totally agree that stam / int is a far more stable way to play paladin. Its similar to leveling ele Shaman over Enhancement. Still you were comparing your character to a character two levels lower with far worse gear, just compare how much hp you had vs him. You had a hell of a lot more, also his character was not max weapon skill or defence. Im fairly sure if you had his ilvl of gear you would have also not been able to take on 2 elites at once in that location.

Look man, blacksmithing is the best way to ensure you have armor backed up by the ah, but the darn blizzard co doest care about players cause there are nearly no int/Stam bs recipes, thus we wear what we can make, str stam.. I totally wish we could get int/stam/spirit(before it was deleted), but the ah is hit and miss and price gouging sucks

HC stands for Hard Core. Where death is REAL. Harder to Kill > DPS

Well in theory its fine if you can weave it between enemy auto's sense you has no pushback immunity but still the HPS and loss in DPS is not good.
Just like druids who level as “cat” going for agi/stam gear instead of stam/int. I cringe every time

Doesn't matter / work that way. If you FoL in PvP your healing is so pathetic that the enemy doesn't even have to kick you.
FoL in full healing gear is lucky to heal for 800 in pvp, compared to HoL's 3k.
15s of healing FoL = 8k vs HoL's 18k
Kicks are rarer and hard than you would think as well. There is a bit of an art to avoiding getting kicked.
Your heals are 40y and most ranged kicks are 20y.
Warlock Fear, Shaman E-shock for example.
Warrior / Druid Charge, Succubus Suduction, Mage Sheep, Mage Counter Spell, Nade and a few trinkets are the only Ranged interupts in the game.
Warrior and Rogue countered by just BoPing yourself and keep healing most of the time.
Nade and Goblin Mortar not so hot when you have high Fire Resist (which you should have as a healer)
The other issue most of the interrupts have is that the price of Interupting you is that do less damage to the thing trying to be killed.
Getting E-Shocked, or a mage taking the time to sheep you which will instantly be removed do to blessing of Sac, for example, is damage not being done to your ally so its just as good as a heal often.
Warrior intercept / interupted you? Cool, BoP self and start healing. One less Horde doing damage anytime soon.
Shadow Priest running at you to fear you? Stop healing and run away. You not healing but they not doing damage.
The simple truth is that most classes can do about 1800 damage in 2.5s. So if you are FoLing 800 and not getting interupted vs HoLing and getting interupted... VERY quickly you can see why one is better than the other.
2 DPS on the guy your healing makes FoL LAUGHABLY BAD.

No. If you are healing you should be off in Narnia 30y or more away from the action. That's about 4s of run time back into the fighting... then back to you... just for you to likely tell them to sit down with a 6s stun while you keep healing. Slowed or hamstrung = WORSE for them.
They are just kind of stuck out their with you watching you heal people.
Note: A paladin free healing HoL for 10s = Horde Loses whatever fight was happening. So its easy mop up after.
Just remember to have your blessing of sac on something to break blind or pvp trinket it at worse. Fire Resist for Nades.
If other healers are around we DO NOT stand near each other so whoever gets it gets the BoP and the Narnia Nightmare for the rogue / War.
Rogue could sprint over to non-BoP target but it will be into 6s stun if paladin or fear if priest.
Ally warriors LOVE intercepting rogues doing this though and clapping cheeks. Ally Mages also like sheeping them, freezing them. Hunters just kill them...
You would be SHOCKED how fast allies swap targets to rouges in the rear on their healers.
Its a bad time for War / Rogue.
Mages will blink forward, counterspell you and get Intercepted by warrior and forced to IB as they go for a sheep on other healer. Very common. But its not enough... as the warrior just used their blink into narnia to incerpet out of danger. They can easily live until the CS wares off even if other healer like a priest can't heal tell you can BoP them.
Mages without IB die with no IB's which is FAR more common and so rarely done.

First issue I see is he doesn't have engineering target dummies. He should also be rocking the greater healing potion, being he is 21. Devotion aura is BiS for single target fights. So many things... RIP
@11:42 For myself (a Prot Pally btw). I use Seal of Wisdom and then use Judgement of Light. This keeps my Health and Mana on the Upside. Even when I do pull two elite mobs. The only problem (When 3 or more) is that they run. If I know they run my last Judgement will be Justice
I also use Sanctuary Aura when available. I will stick with my gear composition which is Stamina/Agility/Strength and Intel, not in that order.
Pally Tanks can be OP..IF used Properly. Classic (Vanilla) gear doesn't really drop for Pally's it is all Warrior gear.. So Plate Stam/Intel for Pally's is your recommendation. Personally? I use SoW and JoL.. As long as I have Mana and Health? I will win, PERIOD

*shrugs* no idea. I can see JoL and SoW working but most paladin AoE farm guides use JoW SoW but that's when you gear gets good. Until then there are times I am JoL SoW for sure. Or just pulling less.
Stam / Int plate has always been a thing for Paladins. If you check the AH you will see of the Eagle Plate gear but very rare to see Mail stam / int gear. This is because everyone knows that level 40+ Paladins be going AoE farming with mage water.
Drakova likes doing 2 hander, 1 mob at a time, Tiger gear (Str / Agi). He doesn't quest, just finds an area where he can kill 1 mob at a time with no pats, netflix and chill style.

I stand by my OP saying that SoW and JoL is far more optimal than Stam and Intel. This way you can stack Stam/Strength/Agility
@@Delekham That works until you realize that per point stam = 10hp, Str =.14 DPS or less (so +1 DPS per 7 str), Int = 15 mana and I think a little spell crit (probably wrong about that), Agility is 1% crit per 14 points.
Str and Agi are designed to synergize into being "effective" with you talent points DEEP in the Ret Tree. Until then they are lackluster in the EXTREME.
This is compounded by it being HARD CORE where Survivability > than anything else.
I have tested ALL the different gearing we paladins can use to level, Stam / Int with mage water was by FAR the best. It has similar DPS and kill times to Deep Ret with the BEST weapons.
Slightly slower kill times... like 22 vs 20 second single target kills when using 1 hander.
That "Blue" two hander is a level 18 blue being used at level 24 (I think? 22?). If you know your weapons you will know that Blue -4 levels is = to Green at level. So if I was level 24 a level 20 Blue and a level 24 green would do the same dps.
TLDR. Say I had 70 stam / 70 X stats to spend in gear.
Stam / Str = +700hp / +10 white DPS (subject to armor, buffed by Crit / Command)
Stam / Int = +700hp / 1050 Mana.
If you use the mana offensively your kill times + recover times are about the same as the str stam.
Defensively their is no contest. One paladin has +700hp vs +2800hp. As mana can be turned into healing 2 to 1 Ratio.
I did a video, leveling Season of Mastery where I PAINFULLY testing every gear combo, kill times + recovery.
Stam / Int is legit #1 for Hard Core. No question.
Have a video me soloing Stiches and SM GY (which admittedly was WAY easier than I thought it would be).

@@Delekham Lol. You can Naked as paladin 1 to 60... there is even an achievement for it. #1 Rule of paladin leveling is "HAVE FUN > Anything Else. One of my more recent videos I am VERY clear about this. I just keep getting people asking me questions about what is BEST.

My assumption is that people go Stam / Str two hander because its "best" and "Best = Fun" to them. Which is fine. But its definitely not best. Hard Core just make it worse.

I appreciate overanalyzing every little thing to the absolute fullest and I appreciate calling out streamers for poor gameplay, especially when you're teaching others the correct way in the process. Using Ret Aura seems to be an obsession (as well as 2 handed weapons) with a lot of the streamers... they want to show big damage numbers and forget that they are solo and that they are NOT max level and in a nonHC game. Watched so many of them pull these stupid moves, dying, and dying from Greed at grabbing too many opponents or going after stupid things like chests in caves etc.
IN reality they forget that Ret builds are BROKEN in Classic.
