Nice! I saw your blofeld demo and it's part of why I bought it. I really want to get this but have yet to find a video that had the kind of sounds I like to make. (thick meaty basses/leads, and keys, more vintage than modern) There's usually too much quacky resonance. would you do a less supersaw-ish demo? Being based on the AN1x I'm expecting good quality, but I'm worried there won't be enough of a variety of basses and leads with those limited oscillators (octave saw with a premade detune setting, octave square with none.) I'm hoping tuning the ring mod right will yield some extra bass/lead surprises to help compensate, but I haven't seen much online that made it really shine in those depts.

Hi, the Reface CS certainly is a good choice. The mini keys are nice to play on and the quality of the built-in speakers is surprisingly good (and very loud). The Nord Lead A1 of course is on another level, but this one has its own sound and excels with the supersaws. That melody is just playing around, not a track yet :)

What's amazing is that the "multi-detuned-chorused-saw" oscillator on the reface cs isn't really even marketed heavily with this synth. I would have to agree that in many ways, this is a lot like a "mini jp8000" (certainly more than that God awful Gaia SH-1 from Roland). I think that Yamaha would have done better to call this the "Reface AN" with respect to the AN1x, AN200, and PLG150-AN line from Yamaha than a "CS" synth. The closest that any of the CS synths come to this would be a CS6x with a PLG150-AN installed!
For the money, though, if you want a supersaw/hypersaw/multisaw/doublesaw (Novation)/Hive/"Singing Bees" oscillator that actually works in a new synth sold in stores today (especially for Trance), then the Reface CS is the way to go...even more than the JD-Xi (which has some passable supersaw timbres possible), then I'd say the Reface CS is your synth!

Gelatinous Yes, I am fully aware of that. I wanted to try out the Reface series before I began to even try finding the “original” synths that these are modeled after. I just found a Reface one that was lightly used for close to 300. And Sweetwater Music has their Reface keyboards on some kind of sale right now. So at least now, they are becoming somewhat reasonable for more people to afford. But, good luck trying to get the Reface CS right now, everyone is back ordered. Sweetwater is out until at least November. I digress. The point I am getting at, is The DX7 is a revolutionary synth, and I myself may bury one some day. And I am aware of the price point that they are at right now. But, the reface series was created for sake of portability. Price may not be an issue for some, but, for others (like newcomers to the synthesizer collectors hobby and business). You may have a different view than I, and that is OK. The bottom line is, synthesizers are amazing musical ventures, and like wise, should be continued being used.

It is the major disadvantage. BUT I TELL YOU the sounds you can pull out of this thing from basically just 17 parameter changes are amazing. I simply save my settings with a patch name to drop box. And it's that real oldschool instant quality that makes this synth worth all the trouble.
Just the Electronic drum kit I have created on this things makes it worth the money.

I'm using it with my iPhone, basically I'm pretty able to save any patch/preset I create or download from Soundmondo with the Yamaha app. Also I bought the MIDI Bluetooth interface so I can charge my iPhone while still playing the Reface but, the awesome thing about this synth as any other is to change every parameter on the fly and the sound that's awesome too.
