The Cure - To Wish Impossible Things

  • This incredible anthem for the gone away love is one of my most favorite songs of all time. I created this compilation video in 2008 when I was feeling like the things that I truly and wholeheartedly longed for would never come true. Since then I've received many responses thanking me for this little video, because to a lot of people it seems to be reflecting the mood of this amazing song fairly well. I am immensely grateful for these responses and very glad you liked it. The beautiful photos of nature featured in the video were found by me on the Internet with no mention of their authors; if you are one of them, please contact me at ronnieslogun@gmail.com.
    =========
    "To Wish Impossible Things"
(Written by Perry Bamonte, Simon Gallup, Robert Smith, Porl Thompson, Boris Williams)
remember how it used to be
when the sun would fill the sky
remember how we used to feel
    those days would never end
    those days would never end
remember how it used to be
when the stars would fill the sky
remember how we used to dream
    those nights would never end
    those nights would never end
it was the sweetness of your skin
it was the hope of all we might have been
that filled me with the hope to wish
    impossible things
    to wish impossible things
but now the sun shines cold
and all the sky is grey
the stars are dimmed by clouds and tears
    and all i wish
    is gone away
    all i wish
    is gone away
    and all i wish
    is gone away
    all i wish
    is gone away
    all i wish
    is gone away
    all i wish
    is gone away...

The cure is a strange band. He creates a sad aura in his songs, but it is not an ordinary sadness, it is a beautiful, deep, beautiful, human sadness ... I don't know how to describe them exactly, I just know that it's beautiful. Long life for The Cure...

I’m going through a breakup right now and this song tells my story. She and I had high hopes for our relationship until we had an argument & she decided to end our relationship instead of working things out. This song will hopefully help me heal although after losing her and my job , things are looking dim & I’m detesting life right now. I’ve always loved the Cure and this album as well as this song.

I'd like to honor my dear friend by dedicating this monument to his memory; Charles "David" Kuhn. When we were 12 he came over to play music with me and didn't sit still long enough to even pick up the guitar. He was on about this band called the Cure. He forced me to listen to "Head on a Door", "The Forest" and countless others. It was my 1st experience with alternative music, other than what I heard at the mall. His first concert was the Cure, and quite fitting, his last, in Portugal. Passeio Marítimo de Algés, Oeiras, Portugal on July 11th, 2019. And just like that, he was gone. February 4, 1977- July 24, 2019. He was a supernova of talent of effortless abilities and I will always miss him. I wish you were still here son.

It's s not the age bro. It's the appreciation of beautiful music. I, in my late 30's have been loving The Cure since I was 15 or so. Who cares how old you are. The Cure will always be awesome. I was told at that young age that I "didn't get them". Who cares, what people think. My personal fav albums are "Head on the Door", "Japanese Whispers", "Disintegration" and "Wish." If you like Disintegration look up the "Entreat" album, It's amazing. If you want to see the evolution of the band go to their earlier albums. The Figurehead (from "Pornography") is a long time favorite of mine. Personally, Robert Smith is one of the most under-rated musician's that I know of. Also check out the Curiosity (personal fav) version of "Forever" and the incredible live version of "Faith" that deals with the Tiananmen Square. Smith is an incredible artist. I could go on and on...

this song makes me think of my dad.. and the fact he is gone out of my life... its so hard dealing with things like this on your own. everyday i feel hallow on the inside... the same feeling of something missing.. its because there is something nothing could ever replace has been torn from my life. this song makes me think of the memories we had together.... and now i cant stop listening to this song. i cant put into words how it makes me feel.
this is the song i want to play at my funeral.

I've listened to this band since I was a child. I'm going on 41 years of age and the music is still as mesmerizing and entrancing as it was years ago. Still touches the same feelings too. I would have died a thousand times had it not been for the beauty of the Cure.

there's this strange kind of comfort that comes from admitting your sadness and letting out your sighs, and this song speaks that feeling for me, and Robert's voice is so unusually soft and soothing here, almost like a lullaby.

This song in all of its beauty makes you long for heartache and darkness. There is so much light radiating through this world, but sometimes it's the moments when your heart is bleeding that you feel most alive. To love so deeply and not get to see it come to fruition the way it could have, leaves you in a state of limbo. You move on, you fall in love, a different kind of love. Listening to a song like this, all the sweetness in the world couldn't taste as good as those salty tears.

...I was starting my bachelor's degree when I bought the cassette tape from this album in December 1992 with some of the money I saved working in a mechanical workshop some months before. I really loved all the album...but this song really caught me.
Now 28 years later, listening this,( despite is a sad song), I remember happily about those people and moments that gone away and I still believe those days would never end.
