- What are the different parts of a shaving brush? SHAVING 101
Handle - The part you hold onto.
Knot - The top portion of the brush.
Knot Size - The diameter of the knot.
Knot Loft - The distance between the top of the handle and the top of the knot.
Glue Bump - The hard part in the base of the knot that contains the glue that holds the fibers together.
Free Loft - The distance between from where you feel the glue bump to the top of the knot.
Splay - How far the bristles widen when the brush is pressed up against your face.
Backbone - The amount of resistance felt when the brush is splayed on your face.
Scritch - The roughness of the fiber when lathering against your face.
