- making breakfast and I hear birds freaking out, I look out the window and there's a bird in the ground and my dog is about to eat it.
she picks it up and I knock on the window so she'll drop it and run 🏃♂️ outside to rescue the thing. it was so mangled
Good dog to drop when told. Poor fledgling Blue Jay (short tail still) will need it's Parents to feed it for about 2 weeks as fledgling does not fly strong but sort jumps/hops to branches. A Friend & I rescue songbirds that hit the glass skyscrapers in Newark NJ, Most that hit the skyscrapers perish on impact, or when fall to the cement pavement. TRT made a video named 'Window Strikes in the Business District' of us picking up injured Warblers. The Raptor Trust(TRT) nurses them back to health. Good thing you noticed ( the loud Bluejays are parents) Fledglings fall on ground & hide on bushes, but that is when predators catch them. If place up high the Parents will continue to bring him soft food the baby can digest. Parents are being rude to frighten away digs, cats, humans -- but they care for the Fledgling :)
Thats good to know. Thank you for the info! I just found another one. The second one looks fine, not all mangled like this one. Coal is very good with our chickens so she knows usually to not mess with birds. I'm very glad she dropped it.
@@carissacoal9280 I was extremely impressed with Coal - very well trained. Yea when the babies fledge risky as any predator could get them ( rats, cats, crows, grackles, etc) Hope your chickens remain healthy, I am fond of Chickens ( but never had one) take care.

If it's still alive get some cat food and put it in a bowl of hot water and you can feed it to him after I get soft and put him under a lamp or put him on a heating pad
It did end up leaving at some point. I guess the parents helped it out once we left it alone. Thank you for the info. Thats good to know. 😃
