Please feel free to view Part 1 of my interview with Shelley Fabares to hear Shelley herself explain about her hairstyle. Shelley is truly a sweet, kind and wonderful lady ! Again, thanks for watching, Frankie
Is it really you?
@@GentedeSucessoVIP😊😂😢😮😅
For someone who "can't sing" she sure had a gorgeous voice, and Johnny Angel is a classic. I always LOVED her performance on that record!
I still play the 45 I still have…😍
Seriously, she wasn't much of a singer, and neither was castmate Paul Petersen. The show's producers tried to do a "Rick Nelson" with their young stars, but it didn't work in the long term because they not musicians with real talent like Rick Nelson was.
My mother always had the radio on and she loved this song. On our rides home from the beach, Johnny Angel always seemed to be playing on the car radio. When I hear this song it reminds me of watching my mom driving.. (she had big sunglasses like Jackie Kennedy)...wondering which one of us kids would get to the bathtub first...and pure happiness, carefree with no worries. I love this song.
Shelley and her song "Johnny Angel" will remain in my mind all of my life. I was in high school when it came out.
Shelley really sells herself short here on the voice recording by her of : "Johnny Angel " It WAS a gold record and loved by tens of thousands of people, including myself. She had a dreamy voice in this song, which did wonders to exemplify her image of the great all american girl that so many of us fell in love with as a direct result of that great TV show. Was she a singer, probably not...but she could sing ...and did sing " Johnny Angel", very well indeed. We love you Shelley !!
The fact that her voice was double tracked helped immensely
@@thomaskemer8109 Yep, the Carpenters did that too.
@@RogerWittekind only on the choruses 🎶
I used my future husband's name to replace "Johnny" in that song when we were dating. We were married 51 years when he passed. I still find myself singing the song just that way whenever I hear it. Thanks Shelley!
The record Johnny Angel was the #1 record in the whole year of 1962.One of the best classic records of all time.
Johnny Angel was the first 45 I ever bought. Watched The Donna Reed Show all the time. Donna does have a very convincing emotional expression on her face in the episode where Shelly sings at her high school. Shelly ... you're still beautiful.
It's a beautiful song. She may not be a singer, but she has a great voice. Love ya Shelley
My son Johnny Angel who is just about to turn 21 is named after this song. He knows the song well it's one of my mothers favorite & she loved that I named him after it.
It's hard to believe she says she can't sing she sounds great. Love that song.
How I loved that show; and oh Shelly Fabares was my ideal. I think this song appealed to a lot of us young , at the time, girls and the boys we liked from afar, it was how we felt. Thank You Shelly you meant so much to many of us from that era !!!!
Love, love, love, Shelley Fabares, loved the Donna Reed show, and remember this show like it was yesterday. I have the song on my iPhone and iPad, listen all the time, and think of my Johnny Angel.... who is still one of my best friends.... and I love him!! Thank you Shelley
I'm delighted to hear this back story to a lovely song of my youth. Shelley is very well spoken.
I JUST LEARNED Christine of COACH sang Johnny Angel!! I have never been so "WOW'd" in my entire LIFE!!
I am totally blown out of the water!! I LOVED coach! Watched the entire series!
I've also watched Donna Reed Show. HAD NO FREAKING CLUE!!
I spend upwards of 60+ hours/week on the internet and I cant believe I never knew this!!
Just love Shelley Fabares! Have been enjoying watching "The Donna Reed Show" on MeTV (Memorable Entertainment Television). She's still looking great, very humble and lots of personality!!
She is just as Beautiful in side as well as out. Always watched her show and loved every episode she was in. Thanks so much and Many Blessings to all of them also. Lyt.
I always have loved that song & just looked it up yesterday. Shelley sang it beautifully.💕🐞👼🏼💐
I have always admired Shelley for her beauty and talent. When she sang "Johnny Angel" on the program oh so many years ago I was is love! (of course me and thousands of other teenage boys) I was so excited and pleased when I found this video on CZcams almost 50 years later. Thanks for the memories!
Shelley is awesome great and gorgeous wish i could meet he2
I grew up in the 60’s. Still love the girls who sing and look like beautiful sweet young ladies.
She should stop saying she couldn't sing. Either she could or learned really fast because whatever technique they used , she had such a sweet innocent voice which was very easy to appreciate. I actually want Johnny Angel played sometime during my funeral as it is my all-time favorite song when sung by Shelley Fabares. I enjoyed her so much on The Donna Reed Show which I was only able to see as reruns since our television only got one channel and I loved her in the Elvis movies because of that innocence she always projected and knowing that they were never really intimately involved as many of his co-stars were with him. She was his favorite actress or they wouldn't have made three movies together. I believe she was extremely underrated through the years. I was so glad to see her and she became a regular on Coach and she was still so pretty. Not crazy about the multicolored hair but if it makes her happy that's all that matters.
I remember that episode like it was yesterday as well as Donna’s emotions. I still have the album as well “The Things We did Last Summer”. I’m 70 now
Shelly looks wonderful! She was always one of my Top 10 favorite babes of the 60's
Love her dearly. Tears in memories.
Just dicovered her and johnny angel last night! new years eve! what a song so heavenly the notes and voice just amazing.
I’m 68 and I’ve had a huge crush on Shelly since I was a little boy. Wonderful actress and she seems like a sweet self deprecating woman.
The 'unconservative' hairdo represents her personal celebration of life! She was very ill and had to have a liver transplant! She went through a lot of pain, physically and emotionally! After her surgery and she recuperated, she decided to celebrate by changing her hair completely...the bright color and funky style portray her new, 'bright' life and great recovery! To each their own...if she enjoys it, hey it's her own prerogative! She feels blessed to be well again! GOD bless her and her loving, caring husband!
She can wear it anyway she wants, but don't expect every body to embrace your freak. You go out with hair like that, expect some feed-back. I too have a life threatening illness and have had life-saving surgery, and I didn't dye my hair some freakishly unnatural color.
Amen to that
Yes I agree God bless 😇
@@chronicstitcher7933 You see, that is the whole point. Shelley is celebrating HER life and expressing it the way SHE wants to. It has nothing to do with anybody else embracing it, or not. Period. And, no, I don't think she should EXPECT feedback (AKA criticism). "Feedback" should only be given when asked for. Besides, life is too short to be wasted worrying about how others express their joy.
I think her hair is fabulous! ❤️
Love Shelley Fabares!
Such a beautiful song...Johnny Angel..
I think when she was 16 and 17 one of the most beautiful girls I've ever seen in my life and I'm only 57 now but she was truly beautiful when she was on Donna Reed
So nice to hear the background story to this lovely song...which happened to be #1 on the day I was born ^_^
I loved hearing the story about this beautiful song that I've always loved...thank you for sharing this...fascinating and Shelley is so sweet
Absolutely an inspiration...grew up watching her...we were SO lucky, we grew up in the BEST era of time❤️..LOVE the hair
I had that single, sang to with the record Shelly 5 time's a day at least. Lol. Watched The Donna Reed show every day. Love you Shelly. Thank you for being there for me when I was growing up
She is very modest what a gal
All my life I was told I looked like Shelly. I loved Nannette Fabares as well (her aunt). I am 70 and I've been married to a Jonathan and all through these 40÷ years I'd sing "Johnny Angel." He and our family consider it a family tradition. She and Donna Reed really seemed like Mother and Daughter ; there was such an excellent , likable vibe ..
I still look like her. It's uncanny.
I melted also the first time I saw her do it on Donna Reed. I ordered the record from Village Oldies in New York and it took 6 months to receive it.
She had a nice little voice and she was well produced. A very pleasant voice from my childhood.
I love this song !! And play it often and showed it to my 25 yr daughter and she’s like omg how’s how the mums horrified that her daughter is singing like that lol love it ❤️
Great interview. I love that song too --- and liked the Donna Reed Show videos.
very good interview, Paul Peterson brought his song alive ,the Donna Reed show would have to be one of the best shows back then,Shelley , you are still beautiful ,how ever you are and what ever you do ,because you are a Princess of Rock n Roll.
LOVE this video! Frankie you did a great job interviewing this wonderful woman, she's the best!
I Love Shelley. ❤❤❤❤
I remember being fascinated with her beauty at only 8 years of age when she was 16 and made the episode she talks about here. I remember it very clearly. Even at that age, a boy can appreciate true beauty......at least I could. She was gorgeous. 😊
On this date in 1962 {Mar. 3rd} "Johnny Angel" entered Billboard's Top 100 chart; on April 7th it would peaked at #1 {for 2 weeks} & spent 15 weeks in the Top 100...
Ranked 6th on Billboard's Year-End Hot 100 Singles of 1962 chart...
It's sequel, "Johnny Loves Me", peaked at #21
The Blossoms sang back-up on this record...
Reached #1 on the Canadian Singles chart and in New Zealand...
Also in 1962, British singer Patti Lynn peaked at #37 in the U.K.
Please tell Shelley that I'm so glad she's doing well!!
Thank you reminding us about “My Dad.”🌈👋👋👋👋👋I’m 70. You bring back memories. Johnny Angel was gorgeous.
I fell in love with Shelly fabaret because of that song, her voice was so sweet and sexy,if a voice can be sexy to an adolescent boy that is,lol.
She's still beautiful but, that hair is a fright.
This is my edit: I had no idea she has been going through health issues and now understand her choice if wearing her hair like this, more power to her!
Loved this song! 1962 I was a 9th grader in HS
I WAS 15 AT THE TIME AND I SAW HER SING IT ON THE DONNA REED SHOW, FROM THEN ON ALL TEENAGERS WERE IN LOVE WITH SHELLY! THE SHOW WAS GREAT ALSO.
she is and always was gorgeous
Not anymore. Looks like a feminist clown.
I had a big crush on her when I was a freshman in high school and played Johnny Angel constantly.
I always thought "Coach" should have built an episode that incorporated Shelley singing Johnny Angel. Unbeknownst to Hayden, Christine used to be a singer... something. It would have been a great call back to her Donna Reed days.
She always sounded really great doing Johnny Angel!!! I love that song!!! Reminds me of this guy I met in 1990!!!
Im still a fan forever !!!!!!!
I was living in Boston at the time, I was about 5 or 6 years old, and as soon as I heard this song, all I wanted to ever do is to write songs. I didn't know it, but I had been introduced to the bridge, and I just thought it was the most beautiful thing in the world.
Donna Reed Show was one of my favorites, and still watch it today. I'm on my second season now.
I Love Her 💘
Love Shelley. Great interview and great song
This interview is a gem indeed....Shelly shed some fun facts about the song we all saw and heard on the show....^/^
She said her hair was part of her near death experience--she wanted to feel free.
I loved the show. watched it every week. Had a big crush on Paul Petersen. I lip
synked Johnny Angel at a contest and won the prize. wore out the 45. It's great to see Shelly here. Thanks for sharing this interview.
Bless her heart!..She has had some medical issues!..Wonderful person!!
I love Shelly and I loved The Donna Reed Show…watched it every week. Johnny Angel was a song that I sang along with the record. I still have my record. She may not think she can sing but she can.
Wish she knew…my 10 yr old granddaughter is singing it in a school play March 2023🥰
I STILL WATCH THE DONNA REED SHOW TODAY ON TV DECADES CHANNEL I LOVE SHELLEY FABARES &JOHNNY ANGEL I GREW UP IN ThE ROCK N ROLL ERA I AM 73 I WAS BORN IN 1949..
Loved that song!
The backup singers of "Johnny Angel" were the Blossoms (Jeanie King, Fannita James, and Darlene Love).
...and she is a niece to the late comedienne, Nannette Fabares...to those who grew up in the 1950's ...Johnny Angel. . . .one song I could sing along with and pretend... just a kid..grade school...great to be young then!
Mitzi Paulos Nanette Fabray is still alive as of March 2017
Mitzi Paulos / yes Nannette was on “to tell the truth”
I Will Always Love Shelly !!!
I love her hair. Good for her. Glad she is feeling better.
Awwww...I’ll be 74 this month...I know exactly what you mean! I think all of us gals did that..We grew up in the BEST time ever💕💕 Sorry for the loss of your hubby🙏💕
The very first 45 I bought at Wallich's Music City on Sunset & Vine, I loved it and her!!
Frank S Wallich’s Music City, Lakewood Boulevard, across the street from Lakewood Center.
I saw that episode of Shelly singing. As usual it was great!
One of my favorite songs !
Shelley was actually 17, not 16 when she recorded the song in 1961.
I had always read that she was 19 when the song was a hit in '62 - I don't know exactly what month she actually recorded the Record itself but it's always been said that she had a hit at 19 with Johnny Angel and two or three smaller hits after that (Johnny Loves Me, The Things we Did Last Summer) that did make the Pop charts as well.
@@JohnnyGNV Shelley was born in January 19, 1944 so she may have been 17 when she recored it, but it was a hit in March, 1962 making her 18
I actually watched the video of Shelley singing Johnny Angel before watching this interview and what struck me the most were the looks on Donna Reed's face.
Shelley has always claimed through the years that she "can't sing" - as if to say she couldn't sing AT ALL - this really isn't true, she could carry a tune, and she could carry it well enough that with the proper Echo chambers, voice doubling and strong background singers, the end result was fine. So, I think it would be more accurate to say she wasn't a strong singer but with the help of modern recording technology her songs came across nicely.
Shelly, please do a DOO WOP show for PBS. 'Johnny Angel' will be greatly appreciated by anyone who loved that song.
Yeah Shelley, I had one of those million records. You and I are the same age and I, along with millions of other guys, were in love with you at the time lol. I remember watching that episode on the Donna Reed show as well. Glad you were kind of forced to do it. It was a BIG deal in your career. Lots of good High School memories when I hear it. Thanks.
I have loved Shelly since I watched the Donna Reed show. She's a fantastic actress and a warm wonderful human being. I adore her. Love her hair. I agree with Twaddles!
I remember that scene!
Very interesting interview.
I'm watching all this sold memory stuff because of the coronavirus clamp down. She was so cute.
Handled the pressure very well
Spotted a Colpix label at the dump a month back and grabbed it hoping it was a Ronnettes (even though I would have already had it). But was pleasantly surprised it was Johnny Angel. Into the collection it went. That's saying something, because for the most part, I have stopped collecting records. Couldn't pass on it though.
Very charming individual. I had a major crush on her when I was a kid. She is spot on regarding Donna Reed's acting during the segment. Donna was just not beautiful, she had acting chops.
Shelley is Beautiful .Was My favorite in the 60's
Shelley, I still have my original 45 of "Johnny Angel". I was one of the 3 million, your Father in Law didn't buy all of them.
Mee tooooo
I would sing this song to my boyfriend (now husband) when we were dating. He loved it so much he married me. 😂
Still a very intriguing lady
I had love that song way back in the 60s is she still alive?.
She sang in Girl Happy with gal pals on way to Spring break&wala there was ELVIS in .....they did 3-4 fun movies& in COACH she was SO FUNNY👏💗
THOSE BACK UP GIRLS WERE NOT JUST DOO WOP DOO WOP, THEY WERE THE BLOSSOMS, WITH DARLENE LOVE, THEY BACKED UP EVERYBODY
Peter Noone ( Herman ) still loves her .
I remember Donna Reed’s face as she sang Johnny Angel.
I remember you pretty girl....you are still a very beautiful woman. Never forget you-
Anybody remember hearing this song in the movie, The Burning bed ?
Plus she was married to an iconic record producer.
Amen!!!
l love Johnny Angel
I always wondered who Johnny ls
