I am pretty sure they are showing the SU-1, which was a Sukhoi WW2 plane. Not the S-1 which eventually became the SU-7.
You are talking about a mach 2 capable jet, but the video kept showing a propeller driven plane. Poor production quality that should have been caught and fixed before posting.
Yeah especially because it was so easy in the 60's to have a camera and being able to move around freely and there was nothing secret in the Soviet Union. We are talking about a state that praised themselves for opening the first toilet paper plant in 1969 and you could get arrested and taken to gulag for taking a photo of a Military train. Guys start using your brain before talking or writing such shit.

@@Emdee5632 in one of his video's talking about a WWII US warship, a cruiser if I recall correctly he was using images of a Canadian 280 Tribal class Destroyer, after it's mid life refit and conversion circa 1985 or so to represent the Second World War US ship.......shoddy and lazy workmanship.....

Production quality really went downhill recently. Talking about a turbo jet and showing extensive footage of a prop plane.
There does seem to be a discrepancy between the narrative and the pictures. The propeller driven aircraft looks like a Lagg product of 1944. Other wise very interesting. The variable geometry wing version would improve take off and landing speeds. Cutting down on fuel consumption. Perhaps enabling carrier landings?
I agree the disconnect between the videos and the narrative was unusual for this series and was disconcerting.

This Sukhoi Su-7 (Nato code name Fitter) is a beautiful jet aircraft. I just wish Dark showed us more footage of it. And please: NO jet engine sounds when you show us a piston engine aircraft. By the way, what the ** is that jet aircraft in the thumbnail?

I'll add to the deluge...it would be nice if the stock footage you're mining is at least remotely referential to the actual content. Use of appropriate stills would be better than having footage of prop-driven planes while talking about innovations in jet technology.

No Afghanistan HAD a reasonable airforce .. much like Somalia did ..but after the fall of the governemt/ country turning to shit ..they lost most of their armed forces . Somalias had loads of MiGs....but they let them all rot

I found Su-2, La-7, MiG-21, Su-9 and many others. But it's Dark Skies, You can get used to it. In the last one (J35) there were pictures of Mirage III.
My favorite plane, Su-22 is based off of the Su-7

There was a lack of picture materials for this, or why there are so many soviet WWII Lavochkins accompanying the talk about one of the Soviet hot rods from the 50s/60s?
Whoever was making the video got very very confused between the Sukhoi Su-1 (1940s prop plane) and the Sukhoi S-1 (1950s jet plane). The first one can go supersonic, but only once.
As an aviation enthusiast, I can't tolerate short docs with unrelated and improper footages of aircraft and the focus of the narrative theme. Dark skies...lift your game!!

Some may have the impression that a prop-driven plane is capable of any mach number, much less 1.84 from the video. Nonetheless another interesting and most informative video. We are grateful for this super channel.

The constant clips of prop planes make this video nearly impossible to watch.
And many people dont remember of the lastest family member of this plane was the star of Top Gun.
The original Top Gun was stories about the fight between US Navy F-14 Tomcat and Libyan AF Su-22 Fitter-K

That vertical landing things is the Yak-36 experimental pllane. Su-7 certainly couldn't land that way.

@@cpt_bill366 yes but the Su9 Fishpot looks like a MiG21 but was larger .. basically it was a delta winged Su7 ..but only had a short service life because the MiG21 was more efficient

why is there jet soundtrack on propeller plane scenes ?
My father worked with these aircraft and they were hated by both the pilots and the mechanics. They were just an intermediate solution and not a very good one.

I have read and listened to interviews of pilots and ground crews alike who state that 'it's a reliable and steady platform for low-altitude attack'; 'it's of a rugged construction and simple to maintain, as well excellent for use from second-class airfields'; 'it's NR-30 30mm cannons destructive effect on target is superior to that of the 20mm M61 Vulcan and 30mm ADEN/DEFA cannons'.
I guess one really has to appreciate the S-1/Su-7 original linage, being designed as a pure supersonic fighter-interceptor only to be pressed into service as a fighter-bomber. The then philosophy of this first-gen relying on a single fuel thirsty 10-ton thrust engine to produce the brute force to propel it to altitude as quickly as possible had to have a detrimental penalty of short range and limited payload for when it principly became a ground attack. aircraft
I guess with many initial designs their shortcomings can be rectified - as would be the case when Sukhoi designed and built the Su-17 - new engine optimised for medium/low altitude and viable-geometry outer wings....

Being a GI back in the big 73 war, Egyptian Air Force didn’t leave any real impression but the Egyptian artillery gave us real hard time,mainly sleepless nights

Come on, I know it's not always easy to find footage of these older planes, but seriously, you should be able to do better than all those clips of prop fighters when talking about the S-1. Love your channels, but sometimes I really have to shake my head...
Guys the propeller driven La-5 footage is only really in the first quarter of the video
Given the commentary is basically lifted from wikipedia I guess he has to run to a particular duration on the audio and so has a lot of video space to fill without having material available to do so so fills it with 1940s piston engined plane footage.
You really need to get your video library sorted out, even using stock clips of a Mig 15 would be better than prop driven aircraft.
That top speed has got to be wrong, impossible on a prop plane.

I guess, there is a confusion, S-1 (Russian Cyrillic С-1) was a WWII era plane by Sukhoi, while the one made in 1957 was P-1 (П-1, likely, a designation for interceptor - "перехватчик", sort of akin to how Americans also designated those with "P" for "pursuit").

No way the SU7 carried dual 600 gallon wing tanks. That’s larger than the propane tank my house uses for heat (500 gallon).
That’s about 3600 pounds of fuel. Theoretically possible to carry that on a large plane. An Su-7 is 20k lb empty, MTOW about 33.5k.
So… probably not an Su-7, but not impossible.

Well, it is now time to investigate at the often overlooked SU-9, 11, and 15 interceptors.
The Su-15 will always be infamous for shooting down Flight 007 in 1983
Most people only think of MiG and its famous fighters, while Su remained in the background. This all changed after the fall of Soviet Union when Sukhoi (along with the Su-27 the Soviets response to F-15) and its fighters became the only real competitor to Western designs. To the point the Russian/Indian Su-30, Su-33, Su-34, Su-35, Chinese J-11 and J-15 are variations on Su-27 platform. Even the Su-57 is more an evolution of the Su-27 than totally new aircraft. Though that was intentional in order to keep costs and logistics low for deployment in Russia and its export costumers.

Uhm....as an aircraft enthusiast who actually crunches numbers, i can say this is a Hype-driven video. Su-7B had a short glory day, and was considered 'basic plane A' for a long while after. It was never mysterious, it was a small bomb truck. (compared to, say, the Bear or Beagle)

How very mysterious, audio is talking anout a 1956 jety fighter and I se WWII prop driven planes, that look anything but Sukhoi......that is interesting there was even a scene despicting a dogfight with a Me109 , well, that definitely blew my mind.
However I'm still hopeful I'll get to see a Fitter, maybe an older Su17, and then the later Su22, I`ll keep watching, maybe I'll get lucky..........let's see

...given that North Korea's Air Koryo is still operating IL-18s, IL-76s, and IL-62s It wouldn't surprise me if their air force was still operating SU-7s.
Please make a video on the rivalry between Mig and Sukhoi, and the lobbying/corruption that has played a role in the failure of aircraft like the Mig 35 and Mig 1.44.

It is very important that if a subject is being talked about then illustration of the subject MUST be used. It is very distracting and it reduces the impact of the subject by using piston engined aircraft when talking about the Strella/Fitter. Get the photos/ videos and use them

These people seem happy to drop almost any aircraft clip in regardless of what they are talking about. The basic Su-7 seems to have been similar in intended role to the F-105, very fast at low level, primarily a nuclear strike plane. The wing sweep was similar to the English Electric Lightning, 60 degrees. ASIC weakness, big thirsty engine, only 4 hard points, two of which had to have drop tanks for any decent range. Pluses two 30mm cannon, very tough airframe, Indian Air Force pilots would do chin-ups on the pitot boom, try that on a MiG-21 or F-100. Bizarre ‘feature’ skids on the main landing gear, I’heard of unimproved fields, but come on. The swing wing Su-17 was a much more useful asset, better field performance, better war-load.

You keep pronouncing the Sukhoi models as S-U separately. The prefix to the aircraft design number is said as SUE.
He wasn't called ESS YOU Koi.
