I am an Oregon native. Salem born. I went with a coworker to watch this exact "protest"
We were morbidly curious. I would call us moderate conservative in politics.
I saw a communist flag unfurled and waved. (black block members approached the man and encouraged him to put it away, and he did. I found that hilarious.)
What I DIDN'T find funny was a poor fool who strode through the park by the memorial wearing a "thin blue line" sweatshirt who was surrounded and beaten. And the worst of it was the ring of "protestors" who surrounded the event facing outwards blocking view and pushing people away, including a press medic.
Angry, organized, violent children. I thought of lord of the flies in that moment. And while initially I was laughing cynically at how ridiculous they sounded and acted. Seeing that man beaten and his partner howling and begging them to stop... These are what one would call terrorists.
Since then I have heard nationally elected and powerfully placed representatives and senators describe antifa as "an idea" or "not a real or organized group."
And I laugh. But not cynically. But out of despair. This state is rotten.

There was conflict between the two dividing the country, and eventually Hitler won.

It's interesting. The city I live in had 2 days of Antifa "protests" around this time. A friend of mine owns a convenience store that was owned by his father and he'd asked me and a couple others to help with security. He'd heard rumours that Antifa was going to be protesting, so he wanted to protect his business. He is not public with his political views at all, and that night, while me, him and 3 others were at his store, Antifa members threatened us all with violence, despite the fact that none of us indicated our political affiliation. Thankfully, the crowd stayed away from us, as we were all wearing vests and carrying weapons, but it was tense. The police came in and were able to finally disperse the crowds, but it was kind of crazy. Things got really tense when my friend delivered water to police that were nearby doing riot control. Some of the Antifa people saw this and got quite upset. The police paid us no mind despite the fact we were armed, as they knew we were just protecting his livelihood. That was the only instance of Antifa coming to my city, but I found it very interesting that they seemed to view us as the enemy.
