Does your hedgehog have a wheel? All hedgehogs need a solid bottom wheel. Also, some advice, hedgehogs run miles at night and poop and pee along the way. To make cleaning simpler, a wheel with a litter tray under it would avoid a lot of the urine going all over the place :).

It usually takes some time. Leave the wheel in and he'll figure it out on his own. There are groups on Facebook, Hedgehogs and Things and Hedgehogs Anonymous especially, who can help teach him to use it as well.
