For the english speakers - a good way to see the difference is to feel your stomach.
Watch the dancer and idol and see how well you'd be able go sing steadily. The Idol's movement is less core-intense and sharp to account for vocal performance.
It also feels a lot more constricted. Like the idol wants to dance more but is holding back a lot. Almost looks clammy when side by side with the dancer because the dancer looks like she’s letting loose more and that makes the dance itself look a lot more vibrant and free.
@@Hanjhob That's probably because the dancer isn't actually vocally performing. She isn't truly in the headspace of an Idol, where they can make the singing and dancing seem fluid to the audience. But she's still doing a great job imo
@@exoalpha6880 I think it may come down to preference in art form. Both are impressive but for separate reasons. As someone who only really cares for the dancing, I would be on the side of saying the dancer does the better job (or rather it’s the more enjoyable one to watch) but like you said, they’re both really good!
@@Hanjhob Yknow, Valid. I've always been more impressed with people who can sustain steady vocals while dancing, so the Idol appeals to me better.
The Dancer version seems really aggressive, in my eyes. Truly, dance is art with these different interpretations ^^
More then just the core. The dancer side has a lot more "snap" in the arms and head too. A lot more motions that move the clothing and hair. I think another one of the factors is needed to 'look good' at every moment, so no matter when I picture is taken of them there wont be anything that looks awkward because of the fast movement.
It's crazy how the little details of movements change the whole feel
and now watch the facial expression difference and see the real magic
@@jos-josradvanji6203 oh wow!! ty for pointing that out~
Having a hard time to see the difference here
Nah
bingingchalingingggg
Its subtle, but the dancer cares more about the flow and transition between each move, while the idol cares more about hitting each move.
its also to account for vocal performance. as someone pointed out less core movement is noticeable outside of the more cutesy feel because if an idol were to dance all out like a dancer, then they would sing terribly, they're voice would rattle all over the place, they wouldnt be able to hold breaths long enough to sing notes.
@@Scyclo I kind of agree, and here's why: there are also Idols who don't really get much vocal attention. Within groups there are singers, dancers, and rappers. I've been watching Stray Kids for a while, and I always pay close attention to choreography, because it's my favorite part. Rappers and singers may not always be doing choreography during their singing or rapping parts. If you pay attention closely to Changbin and Jisung, you'll notice that when they have to rap, they aren't doing the same choreo as everyone else. And when Han has to sing high notes, he doesn't have to dance, as much as move to insinuate feeling. This will only apply to groups who make their own music and choreo, like seventeen and Stray Kids, otherwise the company doesn't give a shit if the idol is singing or dancing. Going back to stray kids, if you compare Lee Know, someone who's been dancing all his life, to Jisung, who has been rapping with 3racha for a long time, you'll see the difference clearly. Jisung, in performances, always has a handheld microphone because he knows he can dance with it well, but also because rapping requires the mic to be close up, as well as jisung always adorably mouthing the lyrics, no matter if it's his part. He mostly focuses on hitting the moves because he's always been focused on singing, and keeping up his idol image. Lee Know on the other hand, you can just see how good of a dancer he is without being able to tell anyone why. But I can, it's because he focuses on the details. He focuses on transitions, as well as exactly where to put his hands, legs, fingers, hips, etc. he gets the move down first, if you watch him practice his dances, then he works on transition. Having both of these makes him a fantastic dancer. He is fluid when required and sharp when he needs to be. I admire both of these idols a lot, and they are both my bias, so I pay a lot of attention to how they act and dance. If you take a closer look, you'll even notice Jisung making faces at the audience knowing full well it may kill some stays, and Lee know holding back as to not outshine the other members.
I think the idol concentrates more on looking cute and being able to sing
@@kristyw89 i always felt they dont move as much because they want to perserve as much energy as possible
I couldn't really tell but I was thinking the idol cared more about looking "cute-sy" while dancing
idols need to balance out their vocals, dance moves and also stage presence. while dancers focus solely on their dance.
i don't know, this is just what i got from my observation as an idol fan.
Some dancers do have to have stage presence.
As someone who did choir for a bit, keeping your core, specifically your lungs and stomach, upright is very important for singing. Your neck and head posture is also important, but it's more "flexible".
You need more air when singing, pop singing less than most styles though, so keeping your core stiff lets you use your lungs better.
And I'm sure restricted movements in general help from running out of breath.
For example, the dancer could bend over fine, but an idol would cut off their air supply, and therefore their singing.
They don't, they just do lipsync
@@rice6497 Uh.. i think there could be some out there that uses this trick, but there are proves that some might not lip sync too, for i’m not that into idols, kpops or other kinds that have to sing and dance at the same time but i see that one of singing’s core is the stomach(it’s all that i know bc i never take singing seriously) and for dancing.. i have no idea.
I’m a beginner guitarist that has almostly no stage experiences too, i can’t really say much and i’m not even taking any singing classes bc can’t find one available..
Lastly pls don’t hate on me, i’m just a wandering soul wander around trying to stop scrolling the shorts and go to sleep bc i’ll be suffering tomorrow with the tiredness
@@Imnot_mhaFrom one insomniac to another… I really hope you managed to get some sleep. Take care of your health, your body will thank you. (I know you probably knew this already… but still I’m just doing what I wish someone would do for me too. Hope you don’t mind. If you do then I apologise.)
I mean, it makes sense.
I'm no professional and I love both singing & dancing, but I discovered myself at a young age (4-5 years old) that I couldn't certainly dance for many reasons, especially one of them is being an excellent dancer while being also and excellent singer.
Before I even had access to Internet and understood all the technical theory behind this, I remember practicing my dances to perfectly fit the singing without compromising too much the dance moves and stamina to do both at the same time for 10 minutes straight (basically the required length for 3min songs and the few seconds to catch some air and get ready for the next part)
It's subtle but I think I see it the idol moves their torso less presumably so they can sing better while dancing.
She also keeps her shoulders back to keep herself from pushing down on her diaphragm.
@@carelessdreamer interesting
Correct!
Singing requires more air, so bending too much will force it out, and cut off singing.
@@imjustroleplaying well that was a good guess
One is for singing and one is for dancing. If the dancer tried to do the sing at 100% of the dancing she might catch a heart attack.
Also the Dancer is more for Westerners because people want to see more jiggling in their dancers, so they enjoy the more wild and expressive movement. It make them look more alive and less like a machine.
Jiggling is just a side effect of making more punchy, sharp, defined movements. For "westerners" punchy movement has been a constant in pop music for a long time because for non-dancer viewers, it makes the choreo more legible/readable to fully extend into each of the movements in an isolated way between the necessary transitional movements. (I'm a trained dancer, but this is just my opinion so feel free to throw away my 2¢)
I do indeed like that jiggle
Dancer prioritizes making the dance look good
Idol proritizes making the idol look good
Idols are putting less bouncy as much as possible to stabilize their vocals
Dancer- more energetic and brutal whit certains mouvements depending on the beat
Idol- Concentrating on facial expression’s, the clarity of their mouvements and the smoothness
*vocal stability, why do yall never take vocal stability into account? it's the most important part
@@rosefulmadness because most idols don't sing live obviously lmao. Why is this a surprise for you guys? Or do you just pretend that they do lol

Performance based with singing involved vs pure dancing. This is a great and true video
As a musical theater and showchoir performer, being able to sing and dance at the same time (without compromising one or the other) is very hard. The Idol's goal is to give a show and be able to sing. the idol's movements will be on point but their vocals will be the important thing. On the contrary, the dancer is focusing on their transitions from moves and the extensions. the movement will look sharper. Many dancers aren't singing while performing, but if they are... the core strength is ON POINT!!!
They really made a song about my mom texting me when I'll be home for dinner.
I can only imagine that idols are also very tired from the restricted diet and countless hours of practice they're forced to go through. So I expect that can contribute to some of their movements, too.
Idols are always cute, but real dancing with intent always takes the cake
Beautiful Beautiful 🩷🩷🩷🩷
your body proportion is so good
Everyone's talking about vocal technique but what really distinguished the two is presentation. The dancer is precise and professional, the idol is picturesque and postures. One is a skill, the other a performance. Similar concepts, opposite results.
I think what's off-putting about idols to me is how much it feels like it's commoditizing art and an artist. Obviously the industry itself is horrifying, but I feel like that's inextricable from the whole concept. It seems to me that to be an idol is to lose personhood, to change art from expression into product.
@@KrytenKoro I understand and agree with this interpretation, but idol-dom is still a professional field of performance. It's pop music pageantry with the focus of captivating an audience + presenting the best versions of themselves possible. Is it inhuman? Yes. Is that bad? Not inherently.
To be the best, most dynamic people we can be, we must put ourselves through grueling training and excellent preparation. This is understood by us idol fans, and we reward these entertainers' superhuman (literally an NCT title track lmao) efforts by idolizing them. When I think of Changmin of TVXQ or Yoon of StayC, their work ethic, skills, and great music fascinate me into supporting their past and future work.
It's really just a matter of preference. Do you prefer raw, unpolished, real, authentic, original artistry, OR experienced, labor-intensive, professional, calculated, superhuman presentation?
The industry is FAR more progressive than it used to be, and what would've been horror stories are now legitimate lawsuits against extortion. Many idols self-produce music (Suga/J-Hope of BTS, 3Racha of Stray Kids, Soyeon of G-Idle, old BigBang) and have international safety nets in case they piss off the Korean GP. I promise the K-Pop idol industry isn't THAT awful.
The dancer has more energy and her movements are more powerful, but I have to say the difference is not big and idol did her job really well.
I really love the dancer the movement feels so alive!!!
I literally see no difference but she's very pretty
The idol has to spilt energy between singing and dancing whilst the dancer only focuses on her dancing
Ah now I understand why I prefer the idol's way of dancing over the back dancers' style
One day I’ll have the stamina you have! I wish I can dance like you! ❤
I'm all "yassss girl on the right!" Like they're not the same person lmao
I love your outfit! 🥺

LOL?
This makes so much sense
I feel like the idol is also focusing more on maintaining that picture perfect smile
I'm no professional dancer, but I've always loved to dance and I think I'm pretty good at it. Yet, I've wondered why it doesn't look like how an idol does (in general - I don't try any specific dances), so what is the difference? And now looking at the dancer, I can see it. Like her, I also put my all into it, there's more movement, I'm not trying to hit poses but rather create constant movement that flows well and carries the energy. This actually gave me new insight and confidence.
I'm not THIS good, of course. And I don't rehearse choreographies, I just feel the song and mix and match moves I know as well as always try new things, even if I look silly. It's always an intense work out. Perhaps I should try creating a choreography for a song I like, and then practicing and perfecting it. Not because I want to dance like an idol (it is its own thing, designed for singing and cuteness) but It would be a good challenge.
