It’s a shame the million or so men that left Russia didn’t stay behind and protest in the streets. A group of people that big cannot be easily controlled or ignored. Yes, they evaded conscription by leaving, but maybe they could have made more impact protesting.
That million congregated in Moscow might have done some good, that million spread all over Russia would have done no good whatsoever. To use a military expression, that would have been defeat in detail.
There's already groups in Moscow that gave up on protesting and are burning conscription offices and derailing trains saying these are more effective than protest.

That’s the thing. They aren’t collecting their dead. They don’t even get a decent burial. They’re left to rot until the Ukrainians bury them. Putin can’t let his people see the real numbers he’s lost due to ignorance and lack of equipment or provisions. When you watch footage of the Russian conscripts in the trenches being attacked by drones, mortars or artillery, it’s every man for himself.
Like Vietnam ?
@@thalesofmiletus2966 Actually, kinda. Yeah. The Vietnam war ended in large part due to public pressure wanting it to stop. Only Russia's situation is going to be far worse since at least in Vietnam the men sent were given some training. Russia is effectively just grabbing civilians and sending them to the front. There are intercepted calls from Russian soldiers that make it clear their losses are horrendous.
@@gyver8448 : There’s one key difference between Vietnam and Ukraine, though. The American people didn’t care about Vietnam - it was just a faraway country about which they knew very little. The Russian people know far more about Ukraine, it’s a neighbour. If the ‘Vietnam’ war had taken place in Canada or Mexico, the American people would have cared a lot more about it and been more willing to suffer heavy casualties to win it.
The problem being that Russia doesn't send them back in body bags, the bodies are cremated on the field and the soldiers are reported as MIA, not KIA, thus saving to have to pay the death benefits for the relatives.

The section about the use of drones and the consequences around 4:00 is very enlightening. It reminds me of air and tank warfare during WW1 which was but a prelude of things to come.
Other examples of ultimately failed terror weapons from the Great War which he could have mentioned would be railway guns and aerial bombing campaigns against the UK. The economic weapons that have now been brought to bear on Russia are less obvious on the battlefield than military drones, but in time will probably be considerably more important. The idea posited by Peter Zeihan and George Friedman that Putin started his war because he realized that it was a "now or never" moment certainly is analogous to the Japanese decision to attack the US and their allies while it still had oil to fuel its battle fleet and aircraft carriers.
might as well evolve to make f35s a deployment platform and communication node for hundreds of disposable 10kg drones with each independently controlled by teams of computer infantry thousands of kilometres away trained in various swarm tactics. One plane could literally deliver a thousand drones onto an enemies frontline and target every combatant/target on 1 square kilometre real time, some flying onto the barrel of a tanks blocking them without need for explosives..
One of the reasons I'm sure that the US has been using drones is because no pilot is put at risk. Captured pilots are usually used for propaganda.

Another thing that's different with this war apart from drones. Is the amount of what would usually have been classified info. Is just put out there in the public space right away. From even before it started, they telegraphed what Russia was up to.
Also, there has never been a war so thoroughly scrutinised as it unfolds. Ukrainian investigators move in as soon as the Russians leave, within 24 to 48 hours, using drone footage as well as social media to build a complete picture of Russia’s war crimes. A global network of investigators is decoding and corroborating satellite imagery and audio intercepts in order to collate evidence for future prosecutions to hold the Kremlin accountable for its war crimes.

Hardly reasonable to omit the Russian contribution to beating the Germans in WW2. @@wilspu5590 Absolutely, like a disassociated video game 😫😤Inhumane!
Unfortunately and very sadly it's a game of drones that are killing soldiers - the Russians are sitting ducks - you xan understand why 500,000 have left their homeland.
Still requires larger airframes because of the "Cube-Square Law." Larger airframes are more fuel efficient because they have less surface area per unit volume and more lift per unit surface area. Surface area gives you the resistance. This is physics we will never get around.
If you want both fast and long ranged, then you need fairly large.
Fast and long ranged will always be useful.
Most likely there will be more of the stuff like the B-52 launching a few dozen missiles from 500 miles away and swarms of drones launched from trucks close to the front. There could even be hypersonic "motherships" that fly thousands of miles towards the enemy then launch dozens of smaller drones that then attack.
Whatever happens larger platforms (aircraft, ships, subs, trucks, etc) will still be needed.
Whatt you are seeing in ukrain at present don't actually represent the advanced capabilities we have. We haven't entered the arena yet.
