  • A judge in Arizona has ruled the state can enforce a ban on nearly all abortions, following the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade this summer. Joshua Prager has spent a decade researching the life of the woman at the heart of that landmark ruling, known as Jane Roe. The author of "The Family Roe: An American Story" talks with Michel Martin.

    I really appreciate a guest on a PBS show bringing up class. Class warfare is a dominant theme in almost every element of American politics, along with race. But PBS and NPR seem to almost fear and dread broaching the subject, preferring instead to only reference race. Class matters too, and this needs emphasized in these spheres more, even if the viewership is wealthy and uncomfortable with it.

    • @julieregalado6086
      @julieregalado6086 Před rokem +3

      Along with race, class absolutely is a factor but I don't think it's just PBS or NPR - hardly anyone in the US seems to reckon with the role class plays. We seem to think we don't have a class system. I have been a viewer of PBS/NPR all of my life and am well-educated but am by no means wealthy, unable to afford living costs in most of the US. I think you might be making some assumptions about why the more progressive media does not frame the issue as classist. I think it really is about not really being cognisant of it.

    Really good to relearn the human cost regarding the fight for the right to choose history. I was in the pro-choice movement in the 70s along with all women's rights that were denied us in all arenas. I never thought our society would regress back to the inhumane practice of forced birth or back room abortions. At age 17 I was raped, pregnant, illegal abortion paid for by my rapist, hemorrhaged, and nearly died. I still relive that dehumanizing event to this day. No female should be forced to have an illegal abortion or a forced birth. NO FORCE! We finally had the right to determine our reproductive healthcare among other personal freedoms and these old political relics have returned us to chatels needing permission from some man (primarily) who doesn't even know our name. Even more disgraceful in 2022 than it was in the 70s. So I'm fighting once again against fascist leaning bigots for the right of females to choose their own healthcare. Cruel, inhumane politics.

      @Ndeye Delgado I had to look up your term "willful ignorance" and only found a clear definition in an "urban dictionary." This is what it says -- willful ignorance (noun) The practice or act of intentional and blatant avoidance, disregard or disagreement with facts, empirical evidence and well-founded arguments because they oppose or contradict your own existing personal beliefs. With that said, and regardless, your argument is fallacious. Sidney provides fact; your answer is rhetorical fallacy. It doesn't apply at all. In fact the sentence you use it in is not a sentence at all.

      @Ndeye Delgado No one has a right to kill another person. A baby, whether unborn or born is a human being and should not be murdered. I think we all know that if we do not want a child we should do what we can to not get pregnant. But once pregnant, we have a responsibility to that baby.
