Is the Renault Clio 197 Worth Buying in 2023?

- In today's video, I'm taking a recent carsboughtformore.com purchase for a spin. I really like the Clio 197, I've found them slow to shift in recent times but I soon think the value will start rising. What do you think, am I on to something or just dreaming?

You are right. The MK3 197/200 Clios are the last proper raw naturally aspirated Renault Sports
Great video and you are spot on Renault 5 GT Turbos, Clio Williams have all started making big money.

I have Clio 3 RS color Nimbus, year 2007, all original. Zero Accidents, all original renault maintenance book, never general mechanics. Very good condition and painting and also inside and outside very good condition. it has little KM. Classic. That's fine with me.
Miss my 197 so much maybe its time to get one again. was an absolute gas guzzler but so much fun.

Interiors always let clios down.
Agree to disagree, basic and cup editions the interior might be a bit cheap. But not the Ange&Demon edition of the Clio200 with the leather & carbon design interior and black leather Recaro seats, which is a quite nice interior to live and drive with.
If I had a driveway or garage I would be batting your door down for that one!

I have a standard mk3 1.2 clio and want one of these to go with it next
I bought mine (east coast Australia in 2016) with 82,000 km. Still my daily driver, now with 122,000. Apart from crank angle sensor and washer pump, nothing has broken. Remarkable, and what a hoot to drive. Lovely gearbox. Currently running Pilot Sport 6 rubber. Very sticky and simply superb brakes. Uses 7.5 l/100 unless I'm really on it. Only complaint, noisy at high speed (compared to my last car, a V6 Bora 4-motion VW).

I may have missed it but love the videos, just wish it would give us a rough figure of the mpg your getting from the vehicles in your experiences
Good point, although I don’t usually drive them much so hard to get my own figures
Got one which looks the exact same almost 3 months ago, only difference is that I have leather and a sunroof lol. Got it for £3.7k with 75k on the clock and is a cracking car. Do not want to ever get rid of it, even when I eventually get another car.

It will be a long while before the 197/200 's will be hit by the Nostalgia wave and price rise though. The 172/182's on their way, the oldest millenials are in ther 40s now, the right age to have had a 172/182 in the early 2000's. Let's hope that they have the same disposable income as the Gen x'ers did and checking the FB groups, probably like a third of the cars sold and traded around are track builds, I see like a post every week of one being broke for parts. So now's a good time to grab a 172/182 and keep them for an investment.

Recently bought a 2007 Renault clio
197 and handles amazingly well and so much fun to drive.
Few gentle upgrades helps the performance more....Great car all round.

Probably had 33mpg but mid 20s more likely as it's hard not to drive it hard especially on them B roads.
All pre 2010 hot hatches are defo shooting up in price 😊 have you still got your fn2 track car ?

197 values haven't gone crazy because of the bad reputation of the gearbox. Made of chocolate.

Id spent the extra on either getting a sorted 182 or a 200. This is coming from a 182 owner. Both great options either of them but slightly different to warrent the price.

Peugeot sport on fait leur preuve moi j aime bien les anglaise mais il faut Led coursifier si on veux aller aux max pas forcément peugeot ou Renault et fiât abarth après y a de très bonne ford escort 2000 ❤😮
La v6 clios n est pas finit juste 240 ch alors qu il lui en faut 400 juste 2 turbo le système 4 roues motrice et vous avait le clios parfait faut juste le terminer ce v6 et robuste et n attend que c est deux turbo comme sur le safrane baccara v6 bie turbo un avion de chasse en limousine frenchy essayer ça vous venait ❤
Conter pas sur nous pour mettre du cuir partout déjà parce que c est une voiture de sport et la peaux des animaux n à jamais était notre truc et si c était de la peaux humaines tu roulerai dedans 😢
