Today, 45 years ago, September 23 is my wedding anniversary. I met my husband in a night club in 1973. This song was playing, he came up to my table and asked me to dance. The rest is history. Married September 23, 1975.
Maurice White touched millions around the world. Crossed over racial and ethnic barriers, incorporated various styles of music to create the unique sound of Earth, Wind & Fire. Maurice White = LEGEND
I got to meet the whole group In the summer of 1977 they had a concert in Miami and they stay at the hotel I work at the Sundre Shop Maurice White was so nice he gave me his autograph and told the whole group to sign their autograph too. I still have it to this day.
Same here. I was a sort of lost soul looking for a guide, then I heard and listened to EWF Open Our Eyes. I can't explain how or why but Devotion said something about true character. Children are born good, but life changes things if you let it. Don't let the world change your mind. Stay true. It just meant a lot in a world full of meanness and selfishness and made all the difference. He was an excellent guide. Thanks Maurice. Until we meet, RIP.
My mother passed away 17 years ago this month. When I was little, we never missed a chance to sing EWF together, it was her favorite band. I love you girl! (Thanks for the post!)
Your son is going to find out this secret when he gets older and starts listen to EWF himself because once upon a time his father opened up a magic box.
I lived in Hawaii from 74-78 and bought this album while I was there. Maurice White is simply one the best front men in music history. God truly blessed this man!
As a child everytime this song played I cried each time and didn't know why. Think I was just awed at its supreme beauty. As an adult with a child it takes on a whole different meaning😍 and these are more different tears. Thank you Mom and Dad for giving me the gift of EW&F. Forever in my heart and soul 💜
+S Boyd Yes! His tribute was awesome!! I cried getting ready for work...on the drive to and during lunch looking at the videos on You Tube... Like my favorite Uncle passed... that's how i really feel.
I seen comment's like mine all the time but never have said it myself but how and the hell can anyone thumbs down this ,sure glad I was age 10 in 1973. This music its my music and I'm a rock kid at heart. EWF & Chicago - Issac Hayes + KC all that stuff am radio at its finest.
I am a big EWF fan, and I read that this movie was nowhere to be seen. Interesting how it resurfaced. I had a chance to meet Verdine White and is the nicest person on Earth. When I asked about Maurice, he said to me "He is doing wonderful!! Thank you so much for asking about him. I really appreciate it." Talk about I lost my mind when I met him. Musically, these guys are real legends.
i had the honor of meeting Maurice maybe 12 or 15 years ago. i was at his house for work and we were in his garage. He was sick and it was obvious but still completely lucid. We talked about scope of work and his touring cases were in his garage. We finished the contract and as i left I had to say to him as a 40 year old white man what a profound effect he had on my life and what an honor it was to meet him...the man said no it was an honor to meet me and gave me a slight bow...this song never fails to bring water to my eyes. pure love to all who have the good fortune to find it.
This movie has been currently playing on a cable channel. I have Xfinity and it's been on ScreenPix Voices. I have watched it several times. I love it.
Thank you Mr. Maurice White. Your unique talent and spiritual insight was woven into something so magical and inspirational, that it truly helped to shape the person I grew up to be ... a person for whom increased wisdom, kindness, self-confidence, love for and empathy toward the struggles faced by my fellow man is paramount. To further these goals in my life, your music was key ... "keep your head to the sky" and may you rest in eternal peace always.
+katsleggs Thank you for putting in words what Maurice brought to the world and to us. You are absolutely right, he shaped our mind and hearts. Somehow we are children of Maurice White.
My teenage years, slow dancing, falling in love, crying, laughing and falling in love again..their music always playing in the background. Every song a main event in my foolish young life
It was so nice to see Maurice young and vital because the last tribute I watched for Earth Wind & Fire it was like he didn't know where he was and I cried and I cried as I am now he was quite a man who created a legendary band whose sound will never die so much of their music was so spiritual and now he's gone back to where that music was created RIP Maurice White
I pray that Maurice White will receive a rich welcome into God's eternal kingdom and be given a big hug by the Lord Jesus Christ and enjoy his reward in heaven.
It took a lot of courage for Maurice to attend Parkinson's is a very debilitating disease. I'm so proud of him he's my hero and has been for 45 yrs. EWF music changed my life, for that I wanna say thank you..💯💯👌✌
"Mighty Mighty" came out when I was in the 7th grade. I was dumbstruck at the beauty of the song and the message in the lyrics. I went out and bought all their prior albums and all of their subsequent ones. I grew up with EWF and, when they came to town (which was once per year back in the day), I went to ALL the concerts--like 3 nights in a row. They were a class act. I remember their Spirit album tour and the one that Doug Henning helped out with the stunning magic tricks. What a spectacle. But the main thing I want to say is this: I can vividly recall that during my high-school years, I would study their lyrics and I aways considered them like my 3rd parent; they taught me so much and had a profound effect on my philosophy of life and way of thinking. Because of the great Maurice White, they were spiritual--what a gift they gave to their fans. He will be missed.
Dubai Silk Route yep! You could smell the funk from across the street (so to speak) I bought the 45 and the LP was one if my first LPs I ever bought. 😃
Was my favorite band, and then along P-FUNK, but I still love WWF, George Clinton once said dirt poor & hot air, my first 45 record shining star and the jacksons 5 dancing machine 1973-74 !
This scene of them in the studio is 🔥 I would have loved to have been able to sit in on the session to watch and listen. This song reminds me of the days where I had no worries and life seemed free of hard times.
I've never known or seen this movie but just this seen touched my soul and my heart! There will NEVER be another man like the great Maurice White . There will never be another group like EARTH , WIND ,& FIRE!
People hate on this movie, but this opening sequence is outstanding. Great direction and cinematography, showing what it might have been like in the studio with such an amazing band. And the joy on their faces while playing seems real. Don't you wish you were there with them?
Paul Scott Actually, Robert Lipsyte was/is a very distinguished writer and essayist for The NY Times and Sports Illustrated. Not to mention a few good novels.

This movie came out? I know on the album(yes I still have the album) it says 'from the soundtrack'... I would like to see the movie of my #1 favorite song.
Indeed, I think it was only poorly, shotedly, written and its screenplay only because the money-grubbing Hollywood clans knew that the music, in itself, could still rake them in $$$$$$$$$$$$$$...in the end.
Summer vacation in Los Angeles 1973. Listened to this song on the drive up, around and back home again. Great little vacation with my Dad, brothers Lee, Phillip, Gary and sister Carolyn. Dad took us to see an old friend of his, Delbert Hodge. I'm only 12, but his wife was the most beautiful black woman I ever saw, until her UCLA graduate daughter walked in! Every woman, girl back home would be a let down after that!!! Great memories. RIP Maurice, Andrew, and Don!

GREAT ALBUM, i was only 4 when it was released and it has always been a favorite. kudos to maurice white, EWF, and charles stepney

Ms.Sandie, you are 💯 percent correct! They just simply don't understand!!!Not to mention the absolute raw talent that came with the magical music that we enjoyed! No instrumental gimmicks,no lip-sincing,no recordings.Either you had it or you didn't!!!!!
Roland Stone lol...for real...that movie was painful to watch, but they made it worthwhile..."Got To Get You Into My Life" was better than the original...even Paul McCartney himself loved it...
I wasn’t even born in the 70s but this song just reminds me of a hot summer day in New York in the 70s, kids playing hop scotch drinking cold sodas eating ice pops, jumping rope, playing basketball, just a kick back kinda song
I grew up in L.A. and *loved* EWF. I noticed the seminal LP was labeled a soundtrack. I had been dying to see this film, and scoured the L.A. Times. But, despite living in the entertainment capital, I never saw the film advertised, and I did not know whether the film ever went into general release. If it did, the film got yanked too doggone quickly. Super group. Long live EWF. And R.I.P. Mr. Maurice White; you did a LOT OF GOOD on this earth. May the Creator welcome you.
+jbird Perez born in 62 also....we got the best of it all. .old enough to know 50's and 60's era's...became teens and young adults in the 70's...jammed through our 20's during the 80's...got into hip hop in the 90's....
I saw this film a few years ago. When it was released, the soundtrack made a huge splash but the actual movie, only a ripple. Harvey Keitel plays a manager with integrity who is forced to choose between his values and financial gain. He can either manage a Carpenters-like MOR group or the more daring but unsupported "Group" (EWF.) Will he follow his heart or his wallet? An early look at corruption in the music business.
My family knows me as the biggest EWF fan, and I tell them their production of music was my greatest teacher as a Musician/Producer...Once Maurice became to sick to tour, I refused to ever see another EWF concert unless he had returned... . With the absence of his voice and spirit, they will never be the same.
Most of EWF were on 45s stacked up ready to drop. My brother and I would try to sing Shing star for you to see. What your life can truly be. Sweet memories
I love this video. Watching the greatest group ever in the studio jamming to one of their most uplifting and soulful songs makes me feel as if everything is going to be alright.
*One of the BEST bands, ever!!* *September - Let's Groove (Tonight) - Boogie Wonderland - Saturday Night - Can't Let Go - Got To Get You Into My life - Fantasy - Shining Star - Starlight, and on and on and on. Thank you for adding more Funk to my youth!* *This particular track has always been one of my SLOW favourites - not just of EWF, but of all time - (and like some of my other favourites of all time) I have always wanted an instrumental version that you could purchase*. *During the summer of 86, I remember taking this album back out of my collection to play, and for some strange reason, I just couldn't stop re-playing this song. I was almost due my second daughter at the time. I would often be sitting, relaxing and just rubbing my tummy while this was playing. I asked my daughter does this track sound familiar to her in any way, because I used to play over so much in the last few months of my pregnancy - She paused to listen for a number of seconds and said "No", LOL.* *I then told her (She is settled down with her own young kids, now), that every time I hear this now, I think of her. This is just a personal memory that will always be attached to this song.* *Sleep well, Maurice - and THANK YOU so much for playing a HUGE part, in leaving me with pleasant musical memories of my youth x*
I am the biggest Earth Wind and Fire fan. I just learned of this movie in the last 24hrs. I watched it on Amazon. It was a very decent movie of how sleazy the record company are back then and nothing has changed. Maurice was a pretty good actor. RIP....what a genius
Earth,Wind and Fire is my favorite singer group at all times.I give a lot of credit to my uncle he have me listening to Earth,Wind and Fire they was the first people I have heard 😎
This white boy was blessed enough to be turned on to Gratitude at 9 years old. I raved about EWF for years. Now I listen to their music- closely - and I love it more than every and appreciate how they put it all together.
I can't get enough of watching the scene of the band in the recording session. Do you 'spose any member of that band had any idea 'that's the way of the world' would have the long term sustained popularity it has? I'm blessed to have grown up with EWF and so much great music from the 60's and 70's.
Oh! Baby ... hearing Earth, Wind and Fire with this song transports me to the good times, when I was driving a 1966 Ford Mustang from Tijuana to San Francisco along the Pacific Highway with my girl in the next seat and watching the stars at night reflected in the ocean and without any light around us; Only the dashboard light marked the speedometer and the radio, listening to this great group of the 70's. It was like flying in space in a spaceship, drinking beer, talking, joking, singing and forgetting all the problems of this world ... those great times. In addition to the Pittsburgh Steelers were the team of the decade winning four Super Bowls ... what a great music and wonderful years.
Today, 45 years ago, September 23 is my wedding anniversary. I met my husband in a night club in 1973. This song was playing, he came up to my table and asked me to dance. The rest is history. Married September 23, 1975.

Roland Stone lol...for real...that movie was painful to watch, but they made it worthwhile..."Got To Get You Into My Life" was better than the original...even Paul McCartney himself loved it...
I agree! Their version of Got to Get You into My Life is so much better than the Beatles!
They were so young and free back then. The 70's were the best because of EWF. Maurice, you will always be the man! Love all of you :=)
I wasn’t even born in the 70s but this song just reminds me of a hot summer day in New York in the 70s, kids playing hop scotch drinking cold sodas eating ice pops, jumping rope, playing basketball, just a kick back kinda song
Mars. Your imagination is spot on! Yeah, it was a lot like that. A different world and a different time.
Maurice White💋 aka 💖King of the 70s💕 forever in our hearts💞
I just love the fact that Maurice and EW&F are in it, along with their music.great movie all around, and the ending is perfect with EW&F on top......
May the Creator welcome you.
they pushed the album out ahead of the movie so it wouldn't get buried.
bein born in 1962 gave me the greatest opportunity of all good times
+jbird Perez born in 62 also....we got the best of it all. .old enough to know 50's and 60's era's...became teens and young adults in the 70's...jammed through our 20's during the 80's...got into hip hop in the 90's....
+jbird Perez
Born in '62 as well. Was there for the best phase in musical history ('75-'80). And the mighty Maurice White was the captain of the ship.
nice ! ! !
+mano a mano wish you my friend more good times ahead ..Peace
+Vince Burden Those were the days.. turn it up !
way way back, when people were so kool...dam these were the days...RIP MAURICE WHITE
This is GOLD!!!!!
we will never see great soul band like this in the next 100 years
That bass grove is too funky...somebody open a window !
No one says what the mopvie name is
@@Osteoja Don't be stupid.
Where can I get this movie?
I would pay good money to just see them rehearse let alone a concert, man a young Al McKay, on guitar, Verdine and Maurice in their heydays,
@Perverted Alchemist Thanks, I will check it out.
I haven't seen this in 38 years!
REAL MUSIC there.....!!! Rest In Paradise Maurice White THANK YOU!
Thank you for the memories. You plant a flower and see it grow....that's the way of the world....
This is a great movie EWF was keeping it real! Time is not a factor for EARTH,WIND &FIRE
RIP Maurice... We'll all meet up with you Soon. We Love You! Your music brought us so much JOY. Thank you!
I LOVE THIS SONG and I"M only 22! True MUSICIANSHIP!
My family knows me as the biggest EWF fan, and I tell them their production of music was my greatest teacher as a Musician/Producer...Once Maurice became to sick to tour, I refused to ever see another EWF concert unless he had returned... . With the absence of his voice and spirit, they will never be the same.
Brilliant extended intro of one of my all time favourite records.
The very humble beginnings of an amazing group and its genius leader. Thank you, Mr. Maurice White. Rest in Paradise, Sir.
Most of EWF were on 45s stacked up ready to drop. My brother and I would try to sing Shing star for you to see. What your life can truly be. Sweet memories
The spirit of EWF is so unique ... never heard so much harmony between artists
I love this video. Watching the greatest group ever in the studio jamming to one of their most uplifting and soulful songs makes me feel as if everything is going to be alright.
Amen to that!
This band of masters help me survive growing up in the streets of Houstons 5th Ward... kept me on the right tracks.
(4:53) Child is born with a heart of Gold, weight of the world makes his heart stone cold
this has been my best group of all time love these guys met them years ago in Greensboro Nc hats off to u guys.
Me! 2020. Sucks over here 2019. But this is awesome still.
LOL!!! I was thinking the same thing when I was watching the movie and I was surprised to find it at Best Buy.
R.I.P. Maurice, we'll never forget you.
*One of the BEST bands, ever!!*
*September - Let's Groove (Tonight) - Boogie Wonderland - Saturday Night - Can't Let Go - Got To Get You Into My life - Fantasy - Shining Star - Starlight, and on and on and on. Thank you for adding more Funk to my youth!*
*This particular track has always been one of my SLOW favourites - not just of EWF, but of all time - (and like some of my other favourites of all time) I have always wanted an instrumental version that you could purchase*.
*During the summer of 86, I remember taking this album back out of my collection to play, and for some strange reason, I just couldn't stop re-playing this song. I was almost due my second daughter at the time. I would often be sitting, relaxing and just rubbing my tummy while this was playing. I asked my daughter does this track sound familiar to her in any way, because I used to play over so much in the last few months of my pregnancy - She paused to listen for a number of seconds and said "No", LOL.*
*I then told her (She is settled down with her own young kids, now), that every time I hear this now, I think of her. This is just a personal memory that will always be attached to this song.*
*Sleep well, Maurice - and THANK YOU so much for playing a HUGE part, in leaving me with pleasant musical memories of my youth x*
Favorite band. So relaxing to listen to.
I am the biggest Earth Wind and Fire fan. I just learned of this movie in the last 24hrs. I watched it on Amazon. It was a very decent movie of how sleazy the record company are back then and nothing has changed. Maurice was a pretty good actor. RIP....what a genius
Thank you so so much for the memories and the the music...
Good night brother White
Maurice said this was his favorite song
Bad asssss!!!! , the greatest of the greatest,.
YES !!!!!!
Maravilhoso! Nós aqui no Brasil adoramos esta grande banda!
Oh! Baby ... hearing Earth, Wind and Fire with this song transports me to the good times, when I was driving a 1966 Ford Mustang from Tijuana to San Francisco along the Pacific Highway with my girl in the next seat and watching the stars at night reflected in the ocean and without any light around us; Only the dashboard light marked the speedometer and the radio, listening to this great group of the 70's. It was like flying in space in a spaceship, drinking beer, talking, joking, singing and forgetting all the problems of this world ... those great times. In addition to the Pittsburgh Steelers were the team of the decade winning four Super Bowls ... what a great music and wonderful years.
RIP Maurice White!!!!!!!! Thanks for everything!
