    Carthage:
    -Naval empire

    -Unified by phonecian empires
    -City of traders -Ruled by merchant princes
    -Highly civilized, literate and scientifically advanced.
    Rome:
    -had foreign invaders
    -Land empire -Nation of armies
    -Republic was run like an oversized military camp
    -Relatively primitive
    -what they lacked in money, they had lots of manpower
    -built their empire through conquest and bloodshed
    First Punic War:
    -started on island of sicily
    -continued for 24 years
    -Carthage ran out of money and was thrown into a civil war
    -Rome took vantage and conquered Corsica and Sardina
    Second Punic War:
    -Carthage began colonizing the Iberian Peninsula
    -Romans nervous from Carthage
    -Conqured Illyria in 219 BCE -Rome declared Punic War 2 in 218 BCE
    -Hannibal marched over the alps with elephants to conquer rome
    -Lost seige engines during alps, fatal loss for carthage
    -Hannibal tried to get other cities to rebel
    -Hannibal ravaged italy for 16 years
    -Rome tried to expect a naval war
    -Macedon took advantage of war to expand
    -Scipio invaded carthage, got the name “Scipio Africanus”
    -Hanibal was defeated at the battle of Zama, concluding second punic war
    -All of carthage’s spanish territory was given to rome
    -also gained part of asia
    Aftermath
    -Carthage was forced to pay a huge fine
    -After it was paid, Rome forced them to abandon carthage
    -After carthage refused, rome seiged the city to its death

    5:35 why were the elaphants necessary xD
    Edit: For some reason when I typed elaphants my phone corrected it to slap hangs because that makes sense :)

      Elephants were used to put on disorder strong formation, to be later anahhilated in dissaray by infantry or cavalry

    Cartridge cannot be a mirror image of Rome if it came first. This would mean Rome is a mirror image of Carthage

    The problem was that rome was not only caught off guard but their competent leadership was busy elsewhere and they were left with idiots in charge of their army lol
