    The Toyota EV was a compliance car to meet the emission regulation in Carlifornia.

    • @carholic-sz3qv
      @carholic-sz3qv Před 9 měsíci

      Nope! The hybrids already did that! This EV was just a partnership with tesla which Toyota actually owned some parts.

    • @rickedmondson7575
      @rickedmondson7575 Před 9 měsíci +2

      It was a California compliance car only sold in Calif. They were supposed to make 2600 of them from 2012 thru 2014. I had one from 2014 to 2018. Great car but no fast charging. I charged at 40 amps in my garage with the original Tesla UMC.

    • @UmmYeahOk
      @UmmYeahOk Před měsícem

      @@carholic-sz3qvhybrids may have existed, but plug in hybrids were still in their infancy back in the day. CA still wanted a car that didn’t use gas at all, so yes, it very much was a compliance vehicle. Toyota did not have the technology, but some start up tech company called Tesla, did. So Tesla reopened a failed plant in CA, providing locals with jobs, built the drivetrain and batteries there, then shipped them to Canada to be fitted in 2600 RAV4s. Once finished, they were delivered to CA dealerships. To purchase, you had to prove you were a CA citizen as they wanted to make sure all those sold remained on CA roads. Of course, once on the resell market, they could be sold anywhere.

    Hi, Own one of these EV's it is my understanding to never "boost" the 12v Battery-ever. disconnect
    (a)12v battery and replace it with AGM 24F FULLY charged 12v battery, which means charging the new battery to full before installing.
    (b) Pull the speed sensor and look for ANY kind of coolant on it, if so the shaft seal is leaking, there is a Quick charge aftermarket upgrade which deletes antifreeze cooling of the electric motor and uses oil instead. about $600. US dollars.
    (c) The fuse for the onboard DC to DC charger is Inside it, which is a sealed unit-REALLY sealed. caution HIGH voltage. The Tesla design EATS 12v batteries which HAVE to be replaced every three years-AGM. Noted the Lithium 12v battery is supposed to be the fix to consuming the 12v AGM. CAUTION-NEVER use 12v flooded battery with ANY EV, the computers never shut off and drain the battery, if you try and jump it you blow the fuse in the DC to DC converter, always disconnect 12v and charge to full separate from EV.

    @user-sq6hc6if9f Před 9 měsíci +4

    You probably know this already, but you can use the Tesla diagnostic tools to read the codes before driving the RAV4 EV.
    (a) Most if not ALL fault codes are the result of a 12v battery that has died.
    (b) You must have a NEW 24F AGM battery for proper function, the booster pack will blow fuses in the DC to DC converter.
    (c) The Tesla hand hand shake at the charge port indicator lights is functioning correctly.
    (d) With a after market CHAdeMO direct DC charging the charge port is located in the engine bay. the stock charge port is not used for DC charging.

  • @groepi1972

    Hi Bjørn, Type 1 can only 1 Phasecharging. In the US they use 2 Phase without Neutral. They gave 2 Phases for 240 Volts.

    • @Gazer75
      @Gazer75 Před 9 měsíci

      Depends how you count it. IT system uses 2 phases to get 230V, there is no neutral.

    • @groepi1972
      @groepi1972 Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@Gazer75 this is not related to an IT Net. In the US the have to 2 Phase to get double Voltage. The normal Voltage of a Single phase is only 110 Volt. In Europe we have mostly TN and TT. So its not allowed to use 2 Phase without Neutral. That why Wallboxes must have Earthdetactions.

    • @seabream
      @seabream Před 9 měsíci +5

      Yep! Early in Tesla's history, Toyota was a large Tesla shareholder and they had agreements to work together to develop their BEVs so they shared component development and thus some parts. They had multiple generations of RAV4 EVs. IIRC the first generation ones used the waterproof inductive paddle connectors that slotted into a port in the front like the GM EV1. The majority of them were leased, or sold with the condition that they had to be sold back to Toyota. They were principally driven in places where car companies were required to have a minimum percentage of cars sold/leased be zero emission or pay significant fees if they wanted to be allowed to sell cars in volume in that area.

  • @OenkePoenke
    @OenkePoenke Před 9 měsíci +2

    Great to see stuff on such rare EVs!
    As someone else already wrote, the Type 1 (J1772) connector is one phase only. In North Amaerica you might have chargers providing 9.6 kW at 240V and 40 Amps, but in Europe you can get 7.4 kW max at 230V and 32 Amps only. And in some countries (eg Germany) you often times are only allowed to get 20 Amps out of a single phase if the other two phases are unused (german: "Schieflast"), so you'll get 4.6 kW, 230V and 20 Amps on some chargers and some (most home installations, but also public ones) limit single phase to only 16A (even if they can provide 32A - 22 kW at three phases), which results in 3.7 kW at 230V only. Minus charging losses of course.
    So the onlboard charger might support 9.6 kW (english Wikipedia claims 6 kW, but might be wrong), but you won't get that in EU if you can't provide a very special one phase 40 Amp charging - including a matching very rare (practically not available on Euro markets) 40A single phase type 1 cable.

    • @sunday87
      @sunday87 Před 9 měsíci

      You can get up to 25A single phase using a Juice Phaser. Basically it is a transformer that takes 400V 16A that you get between two of the three phases and transforms it down to 240V 25A. So you can get 6 kW out of a regular 3-phase 16A 11 kW wall connector on a single phase.

    9.6 kw AC Charging is usually split-phase. It's a common thing in countries with type 1 chargers (single phase). So Its either 2x100V with 48 Ampere current (e.g. in Japan) or 2x120V with 40 Ampere (e.g. in the USA).
