    So important to manage hormonal behaviour in parrots!
    Many people don't know about it and even encourage it, so always good to see videos promoting good advice on the topic!

      I definitely agree! Too many underestimate it as well! We were guilty of doing that and realise how bad it truly is when Paco started randomly attacking us! It is scary, but sadly a reality

      Still it's good that there are ways to reduce how much hormones affect our birds!

    Another great video as always! Hormones are never fun, but luckily there are loads of ways we can make them more manageable! Keep up the great content! (I also have that cockatiel t-shirt! 😁)

    New subscriber! Very informative. Thank you for making this! I found a lost Green Cheek Conure outside about five months ago. I did everything I could to find the owner, but after about two months, I realized they either weren't looking for him at all or they were older individuals who simply didn't know how. I do have minimal bird experience as I had a female cockatiel when I was 5...over 30 years ago. 💖 It's strange because I do not know his history, don't know his age, where he came from, etc. Anyway, I know he is a male (got him DNA tested) but also...after about two weeks of having him, he started humping my hand. I would just put him away in his cage to try to not encourage that behavior. It never went beyond him trying to hump my hand. No biting, etc. And then for a couple of months, he stopped doing this altogether. Until...recently. The humping became more and more frequent. I brought him to my parents' house for a week to visit, where I believe the heat is on a bit warmer as it is winter. I was with my conure, snuggling and cuddling in my room (I only pet his head alway), he was being so sweet. He tried to hump me again. I put him on top of his cage to get ready for bedtime and.....HE BIT ME. For the first time EVER he lunged and bit me. It didn't stop there. He went to the edge of his cage asking for me to rub his cheek. I did for a minute and then...BITE AGAIN. And now it's been nearly a week of being back home with him and I can't get anywhere near him. I'll think it's okay and then he bites me, hard. Draws blood. Bruised. Normally, he is only in his cage at night for bedtime. He has an entire bird room to himself. Now I am just so scared of getting bit, and I'm keeping him in his cage. I don't know if I am damaging our relationship, if he hates me, if he'll never get better. I don't know if too much alone time will damage him psychologically. But the bites are constant and they are pretty awful. This video does, however, give me hope. I already keep him dark for 14 hours. I'm not feeding him too much. Trying to put more toys out. I just don't know. It's hard because he is a rescued lost bird. I love him so much, and am hopeful this will end. But I'm also beginning to wonder if this is why his old owners let him go in the first place.

    My macaw is 10 and I can tell what time of the month. He’s being very loud and not acting crazy. Never messed with his food dish and now he’s dumping it out.

    As someone who only became a bird owner last May, this info is perfectly timed for my 2 budgies! One of them is more vocal and assertive, the other is very chilled and passive, and I can already see how the spring hormones are affecting them. Thankfully no biting yet, and hopefully I won't give them reason to bite me!

    If you have a hormonal male cockatoo, consider praying to the deity of your choice. LOL. Seriously, though, taking them outside (on a harness, in an aviary/enclosure, free-flight-trained, etc.) seems to help an enormous amount because it's so mentally stimulating and they really don't want to breed in an unfamiliar environment. Havoc is so enjoyable outside and so easily triggered into nesting behaviour inside (which typically means aggression/difficulty controlling himself) simply because the indoor environment is so predictable.

      Honestly, I don’t know if all females lay eggs. We’re here to see any eggs from our ladies. It’s also been reported that some parrots don’t lay a single egg until much later in life so I guess it is possible?

    How can you deal with macaws and cockatiels at the same place? In Brazil I NEVER saw that and is amazinggg, there's a lot of people here how says that you can't have the both together because of diseases of different species and stuffs like that... I love cockatiels and and don't want give up of givin the best life for it :(

    • @SoaringWingsFlock
      @SoaringWingsFlock  Před 3 lety +1

      Recently we’ve been having to have them upstairs at different times because one of our cockatiels has fallen in love with our macaw which has resulted in very negative behaviour of attacking us. But prior to this everyone was just able to come upstairs and spend time in the livingroom with no issues tbh! They have separate cages and you require a step air purifier as cockatiels are very dusty which could harm the macaws, but other than that we’ve had no issues at all! The cockatiels know to not get in the macaws way ☺️

    What foods promote calcium in birds ?

    • @SoaringWingsFlock
      @SoaringWingsFlock  Před 3 lety +1

      Dark greens like kale and broccoli. Although, to absorb calcium a bird also requires the vitamin D3 which can be absorbed via sunlight ☺️

    Do young parrots get hormonal too ? Like a 6 month cockatiel ?

    • @SoaringWingsFlock
      @SoaringWingsFlock  Před 3 lety

      It is possible if they are getting too much protein, too little sleep, etc. My friends female (the one in the video) is just about one years old and she was surprisingly showing hormonal behaviour for a short period. A lot of breeders also breed birds too young which increases the number of birds that sadly get hormonal at a younger age, just due to the selective breeding
