BEWARE! Bitterbrush is brutally awesome both up and down the trail!

- Bitterbrush is a pretty well known trail in the front range area and is notorious for it's techny, rocky lower portion. What I didn't know until today is that there is actually still miles of glorious singletrack above it too!
Today I'm getting out there for the second time ever, and joining me is Jon, who was also there with me for my first ever visit. Join us today as Jon meanders up the steeps while I struggle for air LOL Obviously we both have a blast!

Man I know I say this a lot but I am so glad you’re putting out contact on the regular again. You seem happy about the rides and sharing that with your audience
How lucky am I to have this many people actually notice and care how happy I seem? I'm pretty damn lucky
@@The_Sampler You're a well loved guy , try to remember that on those tough nights.
I hiked that trail once 2 years ago. It was very hard. Mostly because I brought my bike with me!
You guys climbed that like a boss. Great riding and a good video like you used to post back in the day. I know it’s hard work putting up content, but keep them coming. We’ll keep supporting.
its always GREAT !!! to take...your bike..for a WALK! I dont go there anymore. Its A Sukfest!
This was my home trail for most of my life this shit is so much gnarlier in real life than on camera you did that climb insanely well for first time blind
He visited it another time a year or two ago. Sessioned a few of the bigger obstacles.
Love the oldtimer heckling you guys!
He was great motivation lol
My memories of Hall Ranch: Had my first real MTB crash with broken bones, Saw a guy have a heart attack on Antelope (not sure if he made it), watched a dude go between two rocks and hang the pedals on each side and get auto-dismounted down the side of the hill, watched a Coyote pack trying to gang fight a mountain lion.... I still love that trail so much. Haven't been back to the Front Range in a long time, but that trail is always on my list when I do go west again.
Holy cow Donnie! That's pretty wild both what you've experienced and that you still get out there and love it!
I'm just watching this video and instinctively putting a foot down on some of those steep step-ups!
it’s my local trail. been riding it for 20 years or so. it blows my mind how well you did on those harder features
My favorite front range trail. That Nelson loop to Bitter Brush is so fast. As usual with GoPro, that climb up BBrush is so much worse than it appears on camera.
This is probably true for many people but you got me back into mountain biking after a 2 year break due to the military. Came up on my time to get out, was sitting in the Arctic circle in norway and I downloaded a lot of your videos to watch when I had downtime. Ended up buying an intense primer from a guy back home with the help of my friend picking it up. Got back to the states and from moto and prior mountain biking it all kicked back in but with WAY more passion. Thank you so much Alex! You do a lot more than just go out and make videos for people you really do inspire.
Yo dude that so friggin cool; super stoked that I could help keep you entertained while out in the Arctic!
One of the guys to pedal pushers said that this is his favorite trail. I just saw it today. Glad you posted this buddy.
Wow, vid upload frequency on point. Much love Alex ❤️ 🙏🤙🤟
Going hard! 💪
@@The_Sampler any chance we will see sampler clause this year? 🤣🤣
Welcome to my backyard!
Lower bitterbrush is a brutal rock garden to climb, good job! No way I can climb that, downhill only for me.
Those technical climbs looked hard enough that MY heart rate went up.
hahaha well that makes two of us at least! Jon is still at resting bpm 🤣
What a great time when you’re having your coffee on a Sunday morning and you get a notification that you favorite CZcamsr has uploaded a video!!!
I wish I could post a pic of me sitting here with my coffee at the laptop as well lol Enjoy!
Man the amount of joy you exude in your videos is so contagious! Thanks for sharing the stoke and keeping us entertained! Wishing you all the best, man!
Rode that trail for the first time last week and had a blast! I didnt clear most of the big climb spots on lower BB but coming down was epic!
the way this vid ends at John's wraps up the video in a way is super satisfying. usually they just abruptly end at a trail or parking lot so this was really cool. also what a great trail. I live near it and have never ridden it but now I'm gonna try.
there is another guy i was watching this past summer. He also had terrible arm problems on jank. he changed his rebound and few other things, and now he can go all day. I just hold the bars to tight, and hold my breathe!
As a local, it’s good to watch you suffer like I do on this trail. :-)
I did this trail in college with a buddy and I had stopped riding for several years and he decided to drag me up this suffer fest. I was dying on this uphill and remember the technical bits being so daunting. I've been riding consistently now for many many years and would love to go back and tackle this! Great video!
One of my favorites. Thx for a few new line suggestions.
There are so many options there, it's like choose your own adventure
That was a well earned descent.
Man im so dang excited to see consistent ride videos back ! I loved when you started to do more narration, but this…. This kind of video is what sucked me in, your enthusiasm in these videos is so damn infectious. Lovin it!
Love that trail system. The front range has so many gems that many are unaware of.
this is awesome, I live in Colorado, and I always ride this trail, this is so cool for me to see you riding my favorite trail
Always disappointed when the video ends! But always excited for the next one.
way to end my day!!! a video before i sleep! (indeed, it's 11pm sunday here) ;)
Bitterbrush is a beast of a trail, might not have the huge hits of Longhorn, but a lot of the lines are much trickier, it also has a bazillion alt lines. You should get up to Wyoming and ride Curt Gowdy state park some time, it's at the northern end of the front range and is rock slab heaven, imagine Buffalo Creek, but without the crazy distances or Hall Ranch but but an entire park of slabby trails ranging from green to double black (but not til spring since Gowdy is already buried in snow for the winter as it's higher than most of the colorado front range).
That looks like a fun trail. Reminds me of some of the rock-garden trails in MD and PA, just with different trees. Pedal strikes, galore...
It's not quite east-coast style riding, but a similar vibe.
That was one of the toughest downhills I can remember you ever doing. Good going.
Thanks Scotty! 👊🤘
That looked like a perfect trail!! Beautiful blend of tech and flow!
When I moved to Boulder from Seattle many years ago, I remember thinking, "there's no rain and no mud and no wet roots, how technical could it be here?" Then I rode Bitterbrush.
Give the Ginny Trail at Bobcat Ridge a shot... it's even harder than Bitterbrush (and much longer of a climb).
SWEET! You crushed it! Nicely done. Local rider giving deserved props. Keep riding brotha!
At 17:41 you should’ve went straight and hit the best feature of the trail! I lived in that area for 30 years, thus was my go to trail. Many good times there and hitting up the St. Vrain Market in Lyons post ride for fresh deli sandwiches and baked goods was the best. I sure miss it. Thanks for sharing this awesome ride
I rode this one last August…pretty fabulous!
Ha ha,so much fun. Great riding and video too. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for the video, I needed it!
It’s so nice to see you riding again! And like seemingly everyone else in these comments, this is a local trail. A lot of it is above my pay grade, but it’s still fun to try! I’ve put a lot of hours into trailbuilding there too, so it’s awesome to see you riding lines I worked on.
Thanks for the work out there Alex!!
Yet another great video. So glad you came back with edits on the regular, keep the stoke alive. Maybe we will run into ya on the trails in Sedona one day.
Some tough climbing right there! Another great video man and thanks for sharing.
Nice to see your content again.. I've experienced my lungs blowing up on Bitterbrush many times... LOL
On sag and firmness: I've noticed that when I have time off the bike, it's useful to go a bit softer until I work my way back up and then go back to my "normal" settings. I progress faster by coming to terms with where I am instead of trying to be my apex self going hard on firm and fast suss settings.
I’ve ridden this trail a few times. It was surprisingly and unexpectedly cool! Boy, you can get going soo fast on some sections
In the summer, Hall's ranch should be called rattlesnake ranch.🐍🐍🐍😉
New mic set-up sounds great.
Thanks Dave! I think it adds a ton when riding with someone else
I'm so excited that you documented this ride. One of my favorite front-range trail systems.
Love the second mic! Big Fan, keep it up Alex!
Great to see you Back in CO redemption vids! You are Doing great , Hero Status at HALL ! I met you at other side years ago ( picture Rock trail , by Janky car..and messin around at Valmont bike park). FYI im old and Curmudgenery....I do not attempt Hall any More...after nearly 15 years riding/pushing it.. Not for faint of heart. Great Rebound after being " broken'
That was awesome guys. Proper ride!
Hall Ranch is an equalizer for sure. The last time I rode it, my jaw was wired shut from am unfortunate incident up at Curt Gowdy. (Jaw Breaker is named after me, lol!) Needless to say, I didn't do much tgat day and literally cried because I had zero guts.
No way Debbie!!!! Hope you are all healed up and back out on the bike
@@The_Sampler that was 2008! I'm good, just a bit older with new tricks, lol!!
Dude, if you haven't bailed on the front range yet, you should definitely go check out Deer Creek Canyon if you want some mondo tech and beautiful scenery. Underrated gem of the area for sure and one of my favorite rides
I heard there's a fair amount of snow up there, but still riding well.
now THIS video really captures all that is Alex, badass riding, quality footage, editing on point, creativity to match, and the home cooked feel! Watching your videos, in general, have a home feel, but this video overall, is my FAVORITE to date!! Thanks for continuing to share your experience!!
Awesome video of a great ride. Steak looked perfect. Thankfully I have a pot roast cooking because I’m definitely hungry now.
Awesome video! 🤘
the prairie dog sounds like an axs shifter 😂
Nice trails and video! 👌💥
That ride up and down was awesome! That steak looks great how could you do that to us 🤣 I just had dinner and now I'm hungry again 🤣
I love this style and terrain. Cheers bro, be safe 🤙🏽
Wicked fast Alex. Wow
Grew up in Longmont this was the closest trail to me it’s so much fun!
its SO Brutal Now..plus, 20 extra Lbs..15 extra Years...PASS! LOL Dave Longmont
Madness! Stoked!
That was a great intro.
Great video man! You guys were tearing up those trails!!
That was some damn fine riding!!!
Dang man, super good job on that tough climb
5:57 Nice!!!
Love seeing you make theses great videos on my local trails! You are doing them justice.
Great to see you on Bitter Brush again! The wall only took you two attempts this time! That stinking section gave me tennis elbow and I still haven't completely cleared it :( I'm surprised Jon didn't take you on the crazy rock roll up top of Bitter Brush ( it's an alternative to the sharp drop turn at 17:49). I'm curious to see how Brian would do on this since he's such a crazy climber.
I saw a guy pile up HARD on that. Given my tendency to crash on things, I don't be hitting that!
@@brulej Yeah that slab is nearly vertical, and one hell of a g out at the bottom.
Impressive!
Steak channel now!
Bad ass bro!
Just about smoked that tree. I finched! Hahaha!
John, your voice sounds cool. It sounds tough. I wouldn't hesitate to use your voice on a video edit. 🤙
Cool seeing you ride one of my local trails! Early November this year was 👌 for riding. We’re deep into ski season already. Pretty sure you’d love that if you’ve never tried 🤙
Great Video Alex! Your high pitched shreeking gets me every time!
🤣😅
HEY HEY WOAHHHH THERE BOYS. DRINKING A BLACKROCKS BEER AT THE END? JON, ARE YOU A YOOPER BRO? Much love from Salida!!!
Lets go viral!
Oneup carbon bars will take your arm pump away. It's crazy how much they help, I can't even ride aluminum bars. Rev grips help the hands a ton as well!
Those TrailOne carbon bars he's got are right up there with the OneUp, IMO.
@@chasingepic Ah I wasn't aware he was running carbon. I'm not familiar with the ones he is running, but the Oneup does have a patented design for compliance that takes more vibrations out.
Diggin the Rode dual mic set up!! I use just the old single one but the dual is cutting edge.
Really think a 29er is needed for these big mountain trails. I think it would've made those punch moves up those rocks much more doable.
Great ride! We’ve now got a couple feet of snow up here in Steamboat. ❄️ Fat biking and snowboarding now.
Looked like a Black Rocks beer at the end of video. You should go check out Marquette Michigan
Great vid!
Hell yeah!!! Killer vid per usual!
Might be time for some new grips. That plus more cush up front = no arm pump paradise!
Best part was the steak!!!🔥🔥
My god! That steak looks like heaven! Hey John, looking for a new friend ?
Get yourself a Sous Vide! Makes steaks so easy.
Live Free, Ride Hard, & Get Steak my friends
😆 🤣
The only place I haven’t cleaned is that one spot at 9 minutes! So brutal.
Love seeing you're back out riding again! It's threatening rain in socal today but I saw your video for inspiration to get my ass out early on a gloomy Sunday! Thanks for the stoke bro!
Edit: chain broke in 2 places on the way to the trail and then it started raining while my greasy hands struggled to fix. Indexing is perfect but the chain jumps the teeth under load. New chain and cassette, so I guess it's the derailleur causing it?
I’m tired just watching you climb that!
That's my kind of trail, and my kind of steak, too. Alex, when do we get the 1-year review of the bike? Or long-term review?
Alex, don’t worry. You’re slowest speed on here is still faster than 99% of your viewers. Keep bringing it to the masses, brother. 🤙

Hearing your recorded voice is somewhat akin to seeing photographs of yourself. Nobody is perfectly symmetrical. The most time people spend looking at themselves is in a mirror, but a mirror is not a true reflection of how you look. A mirror provides a horizontal inverted reflection of yourself. Your right eye, your right nostril, your right ear, the parting of your hair on your right side will all appear to be on your right side when you look in a mirror. Yet everyone sees those things on left side of the image of you that they see. Technically, they are still on your right side, but from another person's perspective, they appear to be on the left side. This is the same for a photograph of yourself, it appears the same as everybody else sees you, but is somewhat different than how we view ourselves because when we look into a mirror, we see a horizontally inverted image of ourselves, instead of seeing ourselves like everybody exactly like everybody else perceives else, we see ourselves horizontally inverted. A photograph of ourselves looks just like everybody else perceives us as looking, but it is off to us. Something is not quite right about it, and we tend not to like photographs of ourselves for that main reason. Although it is a true replica of how we look, we are acclimated to seeing an inverted image of ourselves, so something just doesn't feel right, something seems off, even if we can't pinpoint what it is. Naturally, we do not like this.
The way our voice sounds is somewhat similar to photographs of ourselves. Our voice will sound the same to everybody else, except it sounds different to us. Yet again, that is why we typically do not like the sound of our recorded voices because a recording of our voice will sound the same as it does to everybody else, but it will sound different to us, and in this difference, we tend to develop a dislike for the way it sounds. It sounds foreign, unfamiliar, as if it were somebody else speaking. The reason it sounds different is because not only do we hear the soundwaves that travel through the air and into our ears, but we pick up additional noises, that being the vibrations that travel through our facial bones and into our ear canals. These bone vibrational noises when mixed with the soundwaves of our vocalizations that reach us the same as everybody else (through the air), will cause our voice to sound different than how it sounds to everybody else, it will distort the sound significantly that upon hearing our true sounding voice, we can detect a noticeable difference, and not being acclimated to hearing it frequently, it sounds wrong to us. It sounds off, as if something is not right. Hence, we do not like the sound of our natural voice.
I think those bars are 35mm, maybe try switching stem and bars to 31.8 mm to help with arm pump.
Great content again buddy 🤩🤘🔥
I was hoping to see you try the wall ride before the super tight switchback near the top, I’m one of not many who’s done it
Great riding! Just curious, what bikes were you and John riding?
2020 Santa Cruz Megatower with Fox suspension, Maxxis Assegai/DHR on Berd wheels, I9 hydra, Sram AXS transmission, 203/180mm Shimano XT 4 piston brakes, pnw 200mm dropper, One UP rise bars & EDC, eeWings with Crank Bros Mallet pedals, Odi Rogue grips. 31.5 lbs with tools and spares!
Alex, glad fork is feeling better with lower pressure. SOUNDS to me like it's rattling around a bit. (Noticed it on descents of last few rides) Maybe Loose stem bolts or top cap? Those vibrations could be contributing to the arm pump. Just my thoughts brother
came for the MTB, stayed for the steak!
RAD dad RAD !!!!!!!
Stoked, newbury park again? I have a ride in mind
