Many experts say that the U.S. dollar will continue to dominate for decades, but it seems to me that the global importance of the USD could diminish very quickly, such as because of the BRICS and Belt and Road countries all suddenly start using mBridge and the e-yuan for cross-border payments.

Great conversation! And yes, IMHO of course all money is "broken": as it is debt, there are the ones that own it and receive interest, and the other ones who pay that same (exponential) interest. If its not by direct credit relations, by extension we talk about owners of real estate, share- or other equity-holders vs the people who don't receive any or receive fewer financial gains than they pay on a day to day basis directly through interests or rent, or indirectly through the prices of every goods that include financial costs (interests) and margins (dividends/stock-prices). And as time progresses, money concentrates in few hands which form the ruling-class, which obviously are not just politicians but wealthy families and individuals, financial and business conglomerates (including media and the military), and others...

@RaoulPalTJM I’d love to hear tour thoughts on why if 100’s of billions of dollars coming into BTC ETFs and the price can barely get over the previous ath, Why all the fuss if the price doesn’t move? BTC was better off without the ETFs. If early investors and institutions are waiting for retail to push price up, how is it any better having etfs? It just means more sell pressure now because institutions buy OTC, so all of the BTC they buy (which is most of it now) doesn’t push price up, only down when they sell.

Excellent discussion--and much needed. So agree that money should be objectively studied rather than just emotionally camp-picked and debated. The USD is collateral for Eurodollar credit, and credit will therefore expand to create (lend into existence) more dollars; the USD (love or hate it) is the word currency and weak or strong, the shifts in that dollar impact individuals and nations differently, depending on where they sit on the map and in the cycles. All that said, credit and debt will expand given the structural nature of the Post-44 world, which means fiat money will debase on absolute terms regardless of the relative metrics of the DXY. This explains the rise of anti-fiat awareness, and hence the rise of the anti-fiat camps--gold or BTC. The question now is which camp does one select, which is an entirely different but important conversation. Anyway, great insights here R and B :)

“Peripheral” countries will reprice their Eurodollar debt in other currencies particularly. Particularly when someone started asset seizures. In 1997 with the Asian financial crisis countries that were in debt had to do painful structural adjustments that caused massive riots. In 2008 when it happened in the west they just printed money. It’s not that hard this system is over. The US outsourced their industrial base. That changed everything

Is it gold acting hard money that is the problem, or is it having a fixed conversion rate that is the problem? What if the price of gold is allowed to float upwards to meet the inflation of currency? Maybe that, combined with a little bit of rehypothecation, is OK bc it provides a safety valve for allowing the monetary supply to expand rather than the old requirement to declare war to steal more gold (above that which is mined or acquired through trade).

But I'd guess few of us understand the mechanics of the Asian crisis. So if you are going to use that event as a teaching point it would more helpful to go somewhat into the mechanics of that crisis (and others in the past) rather than just say 'it blew up.'
