I think Max kidnapped their joint granddaughter (who is the daughter of Max's late daughter Abi. Rainie was the step-grandmother, but for some reason she had the main custody of Abi over Max) when Abi came to visit him earlier in the year after he left the Square. I think Rainie thinks if Max knows he has a new child out there, that he will come to see it and bring Abi home with him.
