  • How to Use It
The Helio Gracie choke is a submission that relies on leverage and positioning to cut the flow of blood to the brain, inducing unconsciousness. Our move of the month is applied from the mount position once we have established control and are ready to finish. Starting with the initial "Choking hand" going into the cross or opposite collar palm up and the secondary hand also going to the opposite collar, this time entering with the thumb. Once the lapels are gripped, the palms are turned upwards back towards us. We then bring our forehead to the floor and finish the submission by pulling and maintaining an increasing amount of tension with our initial "choking hand" and ONLY that choking hand.
    When to Use It
Some may ask why this would be the preferred method of finishing, and while there are many practical answers, the best one comes from the man for whom the submission is named after. "For the choke, there are no "tough guys." With an arm lock, he can be tough and resist the pain. With the choke, he just passes out, goes to sleep."
