4x telephoto is the real mvp
Really strange you can't use the 4x telephoto in portrait mode. Google's camera app always has weird restrictions like that - frustrating but not the end of the world.
@@jerryballstein 4x telephoto portraits might be something they add in a future software update?
I really hope this is updated. I bought the telephoto lens on the pro thinking it could be used in portrait mode.
@@dallia1 I'm counting on it but it's good to know you can get real portrait shots without software using it. That might be better actually.

Lol its different style of doing review. Also this guy is a photographer, don’t expect regular consumers to be able to shoot as good as him. He knows the best lighting, angle, framing etc so his shots came out nice.

Exactly. I wouldn’t even bother with portrait mode tbh. There needs to be some tweaking in firmware. First off they need to dial back the sharpening. It was adding texture to her skin that didn’t exist lol
Its got a 105mm lens, can't compare that to 77mm. Of course the longer telephoto is going to give better depth of field. The same way the 77mm on the iPhone 13 Pro looks a lot better than the 52mm on the 12 Pro. Hopefully Apple does a 4x lens around 105mm on the iPhone 14.

@@michaelbell75 But, we didn't even see the actual telephoto lens in action. You have to pinch zoom past x4 to enable it. x4 is just another crop of the main camera... not denying the results shown in the video though.

@@LeeZavitz Exactly how Apple engineered it. That is why you can't get iMessage and other stuff on anything but Apple products, and exactly why I left Apple for Original Pixel XL years ago. I've been a Pixel user ever since and have no plans to leave. I actually love all the things Pixel phones can do, especially Google Assistant.
Go try it i really like Pixel phones there so aesthetic also if your more into videos get the iPhone for photos it's the Pixel

I could see myself never using portrait mode and just shoot the 4x tele. The nice thing about shooting raw is that you get a little more grain/noise in the image and that’s what apple lacks with pro raw
@@LeeZavitz came here for portrait ideas lol so thank you. With s21U I do the same on 10x for birds flowers etc some crazy good natural bokeh. Pixel photos are insane. Overall I prefer 13PM + Focos app combo for portrait which is beyond crazy. Absolutely top video 👍👍

I agree most have gave shitty reviews towards the camera and really didn’t show much about it whereas him he got straight to the point and like you said Talked about the good the bad the ugly and gave his perspective as an Apple user. Really enjoyed. I may switch to the 6 pro
@@Justgambleit what really baffles me is how every CZcamsr forget the icing on the cake when google said they built a partner to make life easier, they actually built a smartphone to help out make life easier with it's new AI helping tools. For the 1st time a company actually makes a smartphone not a camera phone and they juz neglected the smart and AI part and tried to discredit the phone based on a few software glitches which is even in it's earlier stages of development. You can take portraits but you can’t use portrait mode in 4x
Glad to see a different review indeed. No zooming in on a huge building to see if the bricks are clear on 4x, or using digital zoom.. I was really looking for portraiture shots. I really do like the look of the 4x. Looking forward to see more of those...

What this video illustrates more than anything is once you know how to work with available light, these modern smartphone cameras are good enough to get great results like in this video. There's only so much hardware and algorithms can do in such a small product on it's own.

What a fantastic vid of you just shooting. It was good to see how good it was shot to shot for you to get good photos, without messing too much with settings in between. It would be great if you were able to save a portrait preset of sorts, to get the fidelity how you want.
Would you say there was much effort involved in getting them how you wanted, as you were editing RAW?

I watched MrWhotheBoss's review, it wasn't bad at all, but he also talked about the bad "fake" portrait blur, but he didn't tell us that we can make it good by dropping the blur down a little bit !
Also can you do a video to tell us what lens did you like the most and which settings/tweaks make the photos better..
Yeah the portrait mode wasn’t that great to be honest. I don’t know what was up. Maybe they can update that with software. But it’s not nearly as good as iPhone

The pictures are INCREDIBLE! FYI, you can't do portrait mode on the telephoto lens, however you can use the Edit tools and increase the "blur" effect to achieve something similar.
