This video was one of their 'quarantine' series, taped separately during the Covid lockdowns. I love their weird sense of humor (check out the heights they gave themselves - they're actually all between about 6'1 and 6'4"). Others in the series include "Moonshine", "Flowers on the Wall", "Diamond Dreams", "Down to the Honkytonk", "Sunday Best", "On the Road Again" and "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" (on Peter Hollens channel).

Home Fry here and new subscriber! Loved your reaction to my absolutely favorite group. So glad to hear you say you love Geoff’s version and Home Free’s version. Pentatonic, Voiceplay and Home Free are all fantastic acapella groups, all getting their start on the show the Sing Off (Pentatonix won it the year before Home Free did) with each bringing something uniquely their own to their music. Too many reactors try to rate them against each other rather than recognizing that each is talented but offer something different. It really comes down to personal preference and mine happens to be Home Free. They can bring you to tears or make you laugh your butt off (a nod to their Butts Remix). They can have hilarious songs with lots of action or do stunning 5 part harmony in a simple setting and let the voices and the words of the song be the focus like Helplessly Hoping. Thanks again for a great reaction! Have a great day!

The first lead, Chance (Adam Chance) is nominally the baritone in the group, but he can sing bass and tenor also. He sang bass in his previous group.

There is a particular inversion of a 7th chord that has been used on train whistles for a long time (5,7flat,1,3 with an octave doubling). They use that chord a lot in the song, which gives it a real railroad nostalgia feel.

Tim the bass has a 5-octave range, Chance is baritone/bass, Austin is the high tenor and Rob is a tenor as well. Adam Rupp is their World Champion Beat Boxer. Johnny Cash would be so very proud! These guys do different genres besides Country. Absolutely love your reaction!

The guys did a great job of this Johnny Cash cover. Made it into a jazzy blues style. And they all look like some sort of criminals especially Tim & Adam. Remember this was done during quarantine so none of them were physically together. They were very creative during that time. Love the background train noises. Adam's beatboxing is crazy good & so is Tim's low notes.

Oh, if you saw the movie " The Big Lebowski " you'll probably like their cover of " This is How a We Roll". LoL. They do a great job with " Between a Rock and a Heartache " also, but pay close attention to what's happening in the video. I had fun watching that one.

One of my favorites. This was during the pandemic so they weren’t even together. They put out a lot of content during the pandemic. Loved Tim’s lows. Chance does have a smooth voice. If you want to hear more Chance try I Can’t Outrun You, Helplessly Hoping, Yours. 😀

From the last shot, left to right
    Tim - Rob - Austin - Chance - Adam
They are all around 6’2” despite what the height charts say.
When they come back to the US in October, they have a few concerts scheduled, then their Christmas tour starts in November.

Johnny Cash's does bring back some childhood sentiment.
Geoff Castellucci did a good job. But the performance of Home Free means more to me and that is why I still listen to it alone. Often also with the video because Home Free has such a sense of humor. Chance and Tim's voices are ideal for this song. Rob and Austin are doing a great job in the background again. And don't forget Adam, how amazing he is. The sounds he can get out vocally are incredible. Yes, Home Free can make prison fun itself

This was done during covid lockdown so each of our guys made their portion from their home using a few props they had acquired. The height chart was not accurate, in Chance's case I heard he was on his knees.
After it was videoed. It was sent to their editor who assembled the final cut.

Yes. (Adam) Chance does have a sweet whiskey voice. I wasn't sure about him when he joined after Chris Rupp left the group. But, he's too talented not to love! Bearded wonder is Rob. You might like seeing their "Blue Ain't Your Color ". Rob has lead and chance has a verse. There is also a "From the Vault ( behind the scenes) video of it that is fun to watch right after.

Judging by audience cams, Chance seems to be a pretty reliable singer on stage as well as in the studio. It seems he bring a lot on the creative side with the songs and videos. So while he might not have amazing vocal tricks in his bag, he does have a really nice voice that fills out the bottom. With his percussion chops, and all the other input he brings to Home Free, I am glad every day he didn’t join another group.

Jonny Cash did it with a “matter of fact” kind of vibe. He was telling a story, as only he could do. Geoff used his gimmicky growl to reach the lows, but was a little to boppy and happy sounding for me. Home Free added a loneliness and sorrowful feeling that was just rite.
