If you are on headphones you can see how the sound pans around when he messes with the balance knob on the mixer. Also, he is not stupid. He would never pretend to be affecting the music and turning random knobs that don't do anything on a video he uploaded himself. He knows this is of great interest for producers/music geeks/fans. :)

If your talking about the white square looking thing, that is an M-Audio Trigger Finger, they've be discontinued but you can find them used at various places.
The device in the middle looks like a mixer with a center fader at the bottom, so its most likely a "dj mixer" of sorts, im not sure of any specifics but it is some kind of mixing board. Any midi device or electronic specific music equipment you buy can be used for any genre of music, so basically what you would ask a music store would be "Show me some good dj equipment and midi controllers" and you can ask them more specific questions about what they show you and the uses of the equipment

i agree. at first i thought the nibs and stuff were all just for show cause they looked late, but then i got an MPD and the beat repeat actually is default set to trigger and start repeating once the knob is half way spun, so its not like it triggers when you touch it, its when it gets to a certain point all against haters upvote all the good comments about what a BOSS this man is
1: He has arranged the knobs to the MIDI program, think of it as arranged to a Marco in Live 8 that you tweak to change. 2: It's session view, he has just dragged the track bar more so he can see the name of the songs. :)

He plays his songs in abelton and uses loop rolls, phasers, flangers, and panning effects built into the Pioneer and automates song clips, and effects via triggerfinger. Although amateur at best, still effective and works for him. Saw him in Hollyweird last year and it was a great show.

In this particular video, he uses the knobs (the black things he twists) to mess with the duration of the "stutter" effetc (the glitching you hear) which he applies when he presses the pad to the right. (The black square on the Trigger Finger. Then, he also messes with the bottom right knob on his mixer. A mixer is what DJs use for controlling which audio is playing.
he's just moving his head a lot and giving the impression he does lots of complicated adjustments... though, it does take special skills to endure all that noise and make people like it. congratulations, mr. skrillex.
He was able to go stage diving cuz he makes the song then records it into the music mixing thing before the concert. While in the concert he just adds some sounds himself. PS: i love Skrillex music
