- Ryan Reynolds is going to have to pull out all the stops and his wallet if he wants to keep Arthur Okwonko at Wrexham FC. With championship clubs interested and Swansea city and QPR rumoured to be interested the fight is on!

Man, it would hurt to see him leave. He is as solid as they come.
I think he would grow well with the club and help us but it's all down to him now.
As you said, the money will talk and if there is enough of it. Mr. Okwonko will stay so it comes down to Wrexham FC deciding just how important he is to the teams continued success, and the player deciding how much he wants to make while he is still able to play the game. Given how old he is, I say he has a fair number of earning years left to him. Hopefully Wrexham will be able to convince him to stay with the team a little while longer.
I agree with everything you said but part of me also wants the club to be sensible too. We just can't pay out ridiculous money either. We still need to bring in other squad members during the summer to replace the ones that have left.
I’m of the opinion that Wrexham should make Arthur their first PL ambition Signing (I would pay him the wages of a high end Champions league GK over 5 years)
There is one big advantage for a player to stick with wrexham: massive publicity and name recognition in the US pretty much opens the door to playing in the MLS in the future. This is a pretty attractive move for many. This player would certainly make the cut. If you've made a boatload of money over your career, the US is one place where you actually get to enjoy it in retirement.
A very good point actually. Arthur has played in Europe before so doesn't mind playing abroad.
please stay Arthur...we love you
money isnt everything
Exactly!
He is a pretty decent keeper and I would love him to stay but the lure of bigger clubs (at the moment) will be to much for him to resist. If he does stay however he could be a legend at the club. UP THE TOWN!
I think big clubs with big wages will potentially dazzle him too. But then part of me also thinks he is looks the type to do a lot of soul searching so who knows? Like he said he could be a legend here!
“At the moment, I’m not too sure,” he said of his near future. “I’m just waiting to see what the summer is and just make a decision that’s best for myself. But you know, I said before that I’ve loved every minute of Wrexham. If it’s Wrexham where I am, and I think everyone’s happy. But if not, it’s been absolutely phenomenal being at the club and I have some moments with me that I’ll never forget.”
So there’s more to the quote than “enjoyed”. The “everyone happy” interesting to me.
Don’t think it’s a done deal yet that he’s gone. He’s still raw and not ready for much more than a league one club unless he wants to sit but how can he get better on the bench? He has a great opportunity here to play and get more exposure than anywhere else unless he’s the number 1.
Hopefully he stays but I trust Parky and staff will find someone just as good.
It could be he's just keeping everyone guessing and will return next season but I don't know how confident I feel about it. If we could offer him a short contract with a clause to let him leave if we don't get promoted it could work.
@@WrexhamAFCfanzone who knows but if you look at the whole quote, he talks about “then everyone is happy”. That leads me to believe that we are still very much in it and that he himself is in fact happy here, as he’s part of the ‘everyone’. I hope he’s not someone who’s all about the money as a lot of athletes can be. He’s young enough that if he were to take a little less to stay in a place where he knows he will be the number one, a place that he knows he is loved by the fans, a place with owners who will get him more exposure than anywhere else, and a place where he indicates that he is happy then it’s a win for all. But again, not the end of the world if he goes as Parky has proven he can build a squad.
He's very reserved, softly spoken and you would not imagine him to have a Porsche but he does. I was admiring it after the match one day and he was telling me all about the engine, speed and wheels. When he revved off I thought he had a dual personality LOL I hope you are right and there's more to what he;'s said. Did you know his brother Brian is also a goal keeper, he was with Arsenal too but I think he's gone somewhere else now.
@@WrexhamAFCfanzone that’s good info!! I did know about his brother, Brian I think. He’s only 18 and was on loan last year to a non league club but not sure about upcoming season. Don’t think Parky would go for someone that young but who knows what the future holds. And what about McNicholas? They signed him for a couple more years too so maybe Howard starts and Luke comes on? Be interesting to see but I hope you see that Porsche again in August!!
I’m hoping they give McNicholas a go. I think we will hear soon about Arthur and the sooner the better do we can push on if he does leave.
If any PL club or top European club gives him an offer that would give him even a second or a third-choice keeper, or a club in the championship league that has a good chance of going up next season offer him a first-choice or even second choice goalkeeper, he would take them in a heart bit, regardless of what he thinks about Wrexham, we can't offer that kind of money/exposer to him. but any other offer from championship level and below, he would be way better off staying with us and he will.
I know money will be important to him but I do think its pointless him going to a club if he never gets to play. At least at Wrexham he will be first choice and will get a good wage , maybe not as much as some would pay though. We have every chance of getting promoted next year and he gets good world wide exposure here. He is a London boy though so might want to return to london, especially if QPR are going to make a move.
@@WrexhamAFCfanzone The money difference between what wrexham can legally pay him and what PL or other top europian teams can pay him is high, also being third or second choice in big clubs is not that bad, he would stay have play time. you say world wide exposed, but that's not the exposed I was talking about, what gets a player to grow in talent is being able to play at certain levels, that's the exposed top league clubs can give him, which Wrexham can't yet, so I would stand by my original statement, in regard to him. also as a side note, just the fact he said he enjoyed and not enjoy, as in past tense, I have a feeling he already know where he's going to go, and it's not Wrexham.
Yeah everyone has picked up on him saying enjoyed not enjoy. The consensus is that he's off and if he is then we need someone as good or better to take his place.
Arthur's key role in securing promotion once more is well documented.
We now have a settled and strong defence crucial for League 1 survival and further progression.
The powers at be should do everything they can to preserve this by offering him an attractive package where he would be the first choice goalkeeper and the opportunity of being part of further promotion next season.
Hopefully, he will realise what a special and unique place Wrexham is and this will be a key deciding factor for him staying.
Sadly, if not I believe they should try and sign Tom Heaton.
Fingers crossed! I am prepared for both scenarios to be honest. Stay or go!
He is good enough for a Championship club, personally I hope he stays and Rob and Ryan convince him to do so.
Yeah same here, John. Ryan and Rob can be very persuasive so let's hope they can work their magic.
He'd be crazy to leave. Unless it's location based, wrexham is the best way to boost his image
I think he should sign a short contract to see where we end up next season.
Please stay Arthur!
Fingers crossed!
I know Wrexham are doing well but if he gets an offer to play for a premiership side or a top European side who in their right mind would want to stop him from taking that opportunity
Nobody but I can't think of a single premiership side he would walk into and become their number 1 goal keeper.
@WrexhamAFCfanzone I didn't say he would be their nos 1, but if a premiership or even a championship team offered him a position or any position. He would be stupid to say no.
Yeah I know but Arthur wants first team football, he doesn't want to sit on the bench all season. I can't think of any premiership team that would put him in as number 1. There are probably only so many championship sides too.
He’s out. You can tell. He wants to play Championship or higher.
I think you are right but keeping my hopes up anyway.
I would love to see our legend David DeGea at Wrexham...
I seriously doubt we could afford even if we wanted him.
@@WrexhamAFCfanzone The only reason DeGea would come, (and I love the idea), is that he wants to train with a team while waiting for his perfect situation. If he wants the cameraderie of a goalkeeping squad and game play to keep his edge while he stays sharp and waits for the perfect situation in Spain.
Stranger things have happened. The pay would be secondary to terms allowing him to be released the moment he finds the right situation.
The pay would be immaterial, it's the chance to play live games and stay sharp.
I can see where you are coming from and you just never know with Wrexham. We seem to have the ability to entice players to drop a league so maybe we could lure him too.
WXM already released Rob Lainton. If Arthur goes, who's left, Mark Howard? The guy is 37 and planning for a life after football.
WXM really need to work harder of their development program.
We have the two younger goalies, Liam Hall and Luke McNicholas. I don't have faith in Mark Howard to do the job we need in league one. We need to sign a high calibre keeper, younger than Mark, if Arthur goes.
we have more goal keepers than just Howard, also we had to lose Lainton, he's just a weight on our budget, in the three years he was with us, he barley played because he keeps getting injured. not blaming him or saying it's his fault, but our first/second choice keepers should be ones we can rely on to play, and not play a couple of games than be out for the rest of the season.
Also, while I don't agree with you saying Howard is unfit for league 1, I still think we should of remove him as a player and offer him a goalkeeping coach job.
@@WrexhamAFCfanzone i think Howard can get the job done, but we need younger players to develop as a first choice GK. i been saying it before, and I actually told him that on his podcast that he needs to quit and become a goalkeeper coach for Wrexham.
I have no idea how well Luke or Liam play as I've never really seen them except the one time Luke was in goal during a EFL trophy game but I'd like to see them given a chance at some point. If the coaches think they are not good enough then why keep them? I was surprised Howard still wanted to play especially after getting his media degree and developing his pod cast.
@@WrexhamAFCfanzone both of them are decent, I seen both playing also in our other squads. they are not as good as him, but the thing is, with the proper training they can be. thing is, you need to remember he had lot's of experience with different clubs and different leagues, that's partially what made him as good as he is. getting someone with his experience at the same age, won't be good, unless we go way older. i do really hope we would keep him, but we have about a month or two I think.
question for you btw, any rumers about our kit manufactures? i know our current one contract is over this season, any words you hear about us making another contract or switching to a different brand? ( hoping for Nikey or adidas)
I'd hope if he signs for a PL team as 2nd or 3rd choice GK, they would loan him back out to us. However, ideally the best option for us is R&R open the pocketbook and offer him top wages. It's not out of the realm of possibility either, as there are plenty of players in L1 who are paid very well.
We will offer him as much as we can, whether it will be enough will be a different matter. Arthur drives around in a flashy Porsche so money will matter. I can't seen us getting him on loan again sadly.
2nd/3rd choice goal keepers don't go out on loans. Also it's not about the owner bank accounts, there's regulations about how much we are allowed to pay for players in accordensee to what the club bring in, Ryan can't just say well I make 10 million a year, I'll give him 5 million a year than, it doesn't work like that.
This is an interesting point, a team that wants him as 4th choice GK, with an eye toward him moving up to 2nd in a few years, could offer him a larger contract, and then offer him to Wrexham on a League One loan at a cost of around 300000 quid. That allows Arthur to continue his development path faster than training with no game play.
Its an option, not sure if that has ever happened before but if its doable it would be better than nothing.
He's gone. Don't blame him for chasing the money. Hope he stays.
You can't blame anyone for wanting the money especially in football where the career is short. I just hope some kind of compromise can be met that suits both parties.
Meh. Am I the only one who thinks he's overrated? One of those keepers who goes for the spectacular save when a lot of the time he just catch it.
I think he has great potential and could or will be a great keeper. I would still rather him in goal than Howard any day. I think we should keep him but lets wait and see.
I agree. 👍
Please dom't go to Swansea 🙏
Swansea is being mentioned a lot and I am not sure where it's come from! If he thinking of Swansea he might as well stay with us!
Too right! Arthur please stay with us!! 🙏 We all love you. ❤️
Keep you fingers and toes crossed, Sylvia that we get good news soon!
1 will. ❤
I have! ❤
