Honestly California, especially as of late, has a habit of mandatory compliance and it’s obviously not a good thing. California is littered with the poor and everything is so expensive that they’re only a rich state on technicality and it’s no wonder why people from there are leaving.

I'm British with USA friends and I love this channel esp these sketches! My only criticism here is that counterintuitive is something that works that defies your expectations, the word there should've been "counterproductive" even if I don't necessarily agree with that part.
People with mental health problems + illegal drug abuse issues together, need both a carrot and a stick to want to get better, and ready access to therapy, maybe good CBD products perhaps and certainly not that uber strong herb the USA has now. We're at the point now the flower is stronger than 60s gold seal.

Sadly everyone just assumes Austin is the only blue part of Texas. Pretty much every major city leans liberal/progressive. Dallas, Houston, El Paso, my own city San Antonio, and even Ft Worth leans bluer than the rest of the state. (Not you Corpus Christi, you know what you did.)

Sadly too many Austinites are hyper hostile to folks from California. My husband (we live in San Antonio, just an hour south) was threatened by someone in Austin (not even from Austin but who has moved there from another part of Texas) who had never met him for the "sin" of being from California. Didn't matter that he'd lived here almost his entire adult life, served in the Texas Air National Guard, did hurricane relief, graduated from a Texas College, and had lived here longer than she'd been out of diapers. He was born and raised in California and that was all that mattered to her.
He gets it from a lot of Texans, but the ones who claim to be the most liberal and accepting are the ones that show their hypocrisy at every opportunity.

Where I agree with Austin that forcing people into a program they dont want is bad, I do also agree with California's sentiment of being tired of doing nothing and at least trying SOMETHING. Something in most cases is better than nothing.

Can you talk about what happened in Colarado recently in your next table news? A police officer in Colorado parked his cruiser on a set of train tracks with a woman inside. A train hit the car and she suffered 9 broken ribs, a fractured sternum, broken arm, and numerous injuries to her head, back, and legs. It will probably be a hard thing to make jokes out of but I think more people should be talking about it.

This video encouraged me to ask my friend how bail/bonds work and, while I already hated the U.S. government, I now know how much more I should hate it. It gets worse every day!
In other news, California's stuff reminds me of what it's like as a mentally ill person dealing with the mental healthcare system. Psych wards are terrifying. I went to one for teens and younger willingly and came out traumatized. It was horrific hearing the stories of people who were forced there, and we all had to follow spoken and unspoken rules if we wanted to get out. Most horrific was some kids saying they were in worse hospitals, such as a common one they went to involving patients fighting each other and staff not interfering. I already felt stripped of my personhood. I can't imagine what it was like in that hospital.
TL;DR, yeah, some people need a push to get help, but when that help might involve your loss of personhood or worse, sometimes the other option is to stay free with no support.
If not for a lot of poor/disabled programs requiring me to get mental health help, I wouldn't be working with some doctors. It's hard to find good ones if you can't afford it.

An illegal immigrant has better health care than I do...I, as in, someone who's paid taxes for DECADES.

As a Californian I have to say that crime, especially violent crime and theft are through the roof since this bail garbage was passed. Most don't even call the cops anymore because the person is just out in a few hours anyways and then they never go to court. Complete joke of a system.

"the struggle is the unfair system which constantly punishes minorities". the reason for this was the neighborhood they were born and raised. I know you don't cover news from outside the states, but Canada has had oddly Floridian news this week: a sinkhole swallowed four cars in Edmonton, and hurricane Fiona took out most of the Maritime's power. also, someone running to lead Alberta's UCP party is saying that she'll pass a law saying that the province doesn't have to follow any of Ottawa's laws

@@leolordful ok so for context all of the Canadian provinces have their own legislative assemblies, the leader of which is the elected leader of the political party that got the most seats.
the leader of the current government in Alberta was voted out of leadership because everyone hates him. one of the people running to replace him just to run a far-right party called the wild roses before it joined with the conservatives to become the UCP
the country is divided east vs west and Alberta is in the west. one of the biggest differences is the fact that so many people live in just Ontario compared to all of the west combined that the government can be call before our poles even close. so, the liberals in particular have no reason to listen to the western side of the country. so, they don't bother. in fact, Trudeau has been actively screwing us for years.
Alberta is one of two provinces with a separatist movement run by the reborn wild rose party.
the proposed law isn't supposed to make it past any sort of review.
it's supposed to cause a crisis in Ottawa.
so, TL; DR Alberta has such a small population in a place that isn't supper important to winning elections. the campaign promise is meant to get the candidate thru both elections on people who don't realize it's unconditional and
b) force Ottawa to pay attention to us
@@leolordful also i don't know much about our gun laws it doesn't come up much in places where shootings aren't normal. But it is under provincial jurisdiction. Unlike the states there os little to no overlap on what the federal vs provincial government can legislatlate. So the gun laws here probably wouldn't change

@@ubergeek1968 The migrants dumped there by Texas and Florida weren't illegal. They were taken to were they could actually get the help falsely promised to them, as the town on Martha's Vineyard is typically only 5k residents during winter months.
@@Kahtini Some of the Richest people in the USA have homes there and yet they could not "afford" to help people they boasted about wanting to help before it happened. They said they were welcoming and inclusive and as soon as they had the chance to prove it they imminently went against it. You can't say you want to help these people then throw them away as soon as your given the chance to help. So gas light all you want it wont change the fact that everyone on the left is only doing it for back pats and not to actually help anyone.

@@insertianameia2224 it only takes acess to a vehicle & a few tanks of gas to flee interstate. & bail can be set in the millions of dollars if necessary.
"Trying something" is what has gotten us into half of these messes in the first place. We've kept 'trying' to do stuff to fix problems, but we (almost) NEVER fix the underlying issues. They either are tested on to limited of a scale resulting in it 'seeming' to work only for the points of failure repeatedly occur because it's become so large it's inevitable. OR the system backfires so massively you either make the problem worse or you make more problems. I mean take a look at the 'war on drugs' which has been claimed to be something like 1% effective at actually stopping drugs.

@@lovenotegestapo basically, people are saying that this means that all criminals currently stuck in jail on cash bail will be released, which would include people in jail for second degree murder and arson. Of course, this isn’t the case, as judges can still rule certain criminals must stay in jail until trial if they pose a threat to the community, which of course would include those convicted of the crimes I just mentioned.

Idk cash bail helped me get a decent defense team and then the judge said "You paid too much money so we're gonna basically expunge your record because it was an unfair punishment for the crime." I'm not going to jail no more if i can't pay bail.

Seeing new York lazy because of the buffalo bills is actually accurate because though the bills are one team that represents a part of New York, the residents of Buffalo act like the bills are superior so basically "be a fan of the bills or die"

@@JayJayM57 nope. Literally a video of a Chicago chief officer reading off all of the new rules on enforcement including the bail and trespassing. Even he seemed appalled.
Edit: I did go back and read through some of the document and while I do believe some of these changes are good, I feel some do more harm.
Its good that officers are required by law to have body cams on them and that they can't review the footage before writing a report.
But its also stupid that an officer can't remove someone from private property unless they are threatening. Say for example a squater comes into your house and makes themselves at home. You call the police to have them removed for trespassing yet all they can do is give them a citation so long as the squatter isn't being threatening. That makes no sense.
Another thing is that the legislation makes it illegal for officers to taze someone in the back despite in training it is recommended to target the back.
Another is that should an individual under house arrest leave their place of detainment, the officers are unable to go after them for 48 hours. You can literally leave the state in that time.
Again, while some of the newly implaced laws are good and beneficial, some of them are going to do more harm than good if not looked at more thoroughly.
But then again I live in Florida so I guess I shouldn't really be talking.
Apologies for the rant. My father goes up to Illinois every year for business so hearing about some of these new laws being put into place made me a bit worried.
@@legosamurai732animation2 the hard right the GOP here took doesn't help. Some in the party did point out those issues, but then started calling it the purge law. And the party's overall positions have gone far right. The current GOP governor candidate has gone on recod saying that same sex marriage is evil, said abortion was worse than the holocaust (while running against a Jewish governor), and made a name for himself saying covid was a hoax. And he's not even the worst GOP candidate this year.
I miss when we had pragmatic Republicans in this state.
@@legosamurai732animation2 Your rat is ok, I understand your rage when you think the laws are becoming criminal freely but I doubt it. I grew up in a conservative community and move to a liberal city for employment and I can tell you both liberal and conservative do not like crime but go on different ways to fix it. conservatives are more interested in who and hard punishment to discourage crimes while liberals are more interested in why to see if the cause has a root that creates more criminals. for example, lead pipes. I`m not trying to look down on you but I find it hard to believe the laws behave like that. For some of them, the no reviewing body camera sounds partially legit and the non-tazing people in the back sound true. I can see the reasoning behind those 2. wanting officers to be sure and not randomly taser people. but the squatter's sounds are made up or exaggeration of protest protection law.

Just going to put this out there, seeing these videos makes me think that the country could be ran better if the governors sat at a round table and discussed what's best for their states while the rest took notes, then let elected leaders dercern which ideas are good and go with them.
Technically that's how our country is supposed to be. The president is supposed to be dude that deals with the annoying Europeans and running the military and Congress is supposed to be the dudes who deal with laws regarding commerce, trade and funding our military while the Judicial dudes deals with keeping those other dudes from causing too much chaos while the Governors and the State legislation deal with literally everything else.

The founding fathers hopped that the issue of slavery would have been resolved before it caused a division, but the invention of several new agricultural tools making the institution of slavery more profitable made that impossible. Thus it was either the United States break into two nations or the States adhere to a higher authority. Lincoln knew that a divided America was just inviting annoying Europeans to mess around with American affairs and fought to preserve the union to keep that from happening. Had he survived and was able to implement his own vision of a United States chances are we wouldn't be in the political situation we are now but that is the way of the butterfly's wings I guess.

The national guard was called to help get them to Boston where they could get services.
Not going to lie, that's really one of the best uses of the national guard we could ask for. Y'know, instead of being told to arrest or shoot migrants at the border.
The US military are masters of logistics. A humanitarian shitshow like what happened is an objectively good use of that power, like hurricane relief and getting people sheltered from natural disasters. This disaster was man-made.
The National Guard was there - like they are in hurricanes & natural disaster - to provide food & shelter, not murder them. 🙄

Sadly here in alaska it's like a revolving door with criminal acts, get caught in the act and your released on sight because many of the judges don't care and those who are guilty go free to commit more crimes before their day in court. Our court system here is so clogged up with repeated offenders who get arrested and released 2 or 3 times before the initial court date is obscene
