For your info Maria .. the violations has just been discovered recently, Solicitor General Jose Calida already filed case in Supreme court which is still pending. Some lawmakers tried to push for the grant of the renewal of Franchise but was not able to succeed, prompting the congress to find a way to give way to a new franchise, instead of renewal. That's the only time they found out the violations... so next time ... stay focus on the issue and watch, so that you are knowledgeable on the issue and not be ignorant.

Since the beginning of the franchise hearings, Congressman Zarate is obviously a supporter to ABS-CBN and not to the Philippine Constitution. In my opinion, he demonstrated to have personal, political and probably business interests with ABS-CBN. He does not deserved to be in the Congress. Congressmen Defensor, Marcoleta, Remulla, and Barzaga are the stout supporters of the Philipine Constitution and rule of law. To all 92 sound minded congressmen and congresswomen, please vote "No" to new ABS-CBN franchise and thereby slowly eradicating oligarchy for a better Philippines.

But the most direct and fundamental explanation of all these has been said by Rep. Mike Defensor in his closing statements. We are sad for the thousands of ordinary employees whose means of livelihood is in peril. They are innocent victims in all these. But it is about the few people in our society who will use influence, in this case the power over media to advance their business interests above country and its people. Many of us already have a sense of these but the hearings brought everything to the surface. It started with using media power to collect money from a presidential candidate thereby keeping that important money hostage, and airing the rival candidates highly derogatory ad. This to me is highly immoral and wicked. Then the hearings began and all of the other issues were brought to public eye. Even IF Mr Lopez is a Filipino, he is irrefutably an American citizen. The issue is not his being a Filipino but his American citizenship which runs counter to fundamental provisions of the constitution. There are so many other issues cited but one other glaring issue that needs highlight is that for 3 years GMA, a comparatively-sized media company paid about 3 billion in taxes and ABS CBN not even 1 billion. Then the scheme of the PEZA surfaced. They sell their local production to their export subsidiaries making it pass through their PEZA entity. The PEZA entity gets bulk of the profit through some ingenious transfer pricing scheme and because PEZA entities get only a 5 percent (not the local corporation’s 35%) corporate income tax overall they pay less taxes. How on earth is that in the service of the Filipino? The thousands of innocent employees have the nation’s sympathy. But the market forces will play out. There is room for one big franchise holder of these frequencies who will employ them in the near future. Some sacrifices are needed as this government tries to correct the fundamental ills that has kept this country a basket case in terms of progress for decades.
By the way, no disrespect to the church and God, but the priest who made a homily at the Manila Cathedral on this issue does not know any better. Pathetic priest.
