Just a quick one to those who are asking, the envelope filter pedal I am using in the intro jam is a Way Huge Attack Vector www.andertons.co.uk/way-huge-wm92-smalls-attack-vector-phaser-envelope-pedal
Wondering if you could please update us, what are currently your favourite S2 and favourite SE (without any modifications or upgrades)? Your videos are all amazing, and I wish Andertons had a branch in Houston!
This set of colors are far nicer than the first launch colors
I agree!!
Apart from Moon White which is really nice 👌
Yep, launch colours were truly awful- (PRS owner here).
Sold the dragon fruit an got myself a nylon blue, hit hit
That's because anything tesla is garbage
this was the most chaotic episode on andertons in a long time. i'm here for it
Im 1000% sure it's because its J9hn Mayer related
I’m beyond ready for a real appearance from John on here!
He should pop over during the European leg of his tour; that would be hilarious
The maple fretboards were inevitable. Can't wait for the PRS version of the Tele.
O think you can find clues on the guitar Myles Kennedy is playing these days… looks like a T Style guitar with humbuckers
@@guguslive Good catch! I didn't even notice he had that T Style PRS. Also it looks amazing!
@@guguslive wow. I just looked it up. It looks like it could be a schecter guitar.
@@nathanielvargas3863 there are a few pictures and posts about it online, it's definitely a PRS, with the signature on the headstock and everything. It looks great tbh.
@@phillsmith5655 I know it’s a PRS it just looks like an ugly Schecter style guitar
Man. The blue one is clean.
Yes!!! I’ve been waiting for this video!!! Thanks Andertons
Your best episodes are the ones that don’t go smooth. You guys had me cracking up a few times. The pedal board fiasco 😂
It was certainly a “last video of the day” and “last minute” and “the video needs to go like tomorrow”kinda vibe 😂
Finally real playing on the neck pickup! Thank you. Sounded great.
I love the banter between you guys! Always great fun, love your videos!
I love these blindfold shootouts. I don't care if you can tell the difference or not, just keep doing them!
I love the direction they're moving with the maple boards. I was just about to get another strat too. Maybe this will hold me off for a while until I find one in the wild.
These fun little laugh sessions are a fabulous break in any old day! Thanks guys.
p.s. Danish Pete is just a very nice guy, and a super-tasteful player.
Hey Lee, its Dan and this is just the video I needed to see!!!! Thanks !
Can't believe they low key confirmed a T-style PRS @ 28:26. Probably a Myles Kennedy sig...
In wine red or dark cherry please...
I’ve been waiting on this video!
A Silver Sky SE and DGT SE would complete my must need guitars to cover the tones I need in the studio.
I've considered selling my core 245 to buy both of them. But then I think of what Pete said in the video, the more expensive one just gives you a little bit more, and I love that little bit more. But I'd be happy with the two SE's
I agree but the Silver Sky SE should have a maple board to offset the rosewood on the DGT. I am halfway there after trading in my rosewood silver sky for a maple. Now I gotta wait until the DGT gets to Canada(2024?).
Total shocker that Pete is playing the purple one lol! The Silver Sky SEs are amazing guitars and love the maple fretboard. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Really good sounding guitars. You always have to choose the one guitar that gives you the right feeling... 😊🤘
Lee, you've come a long way buddy. You're playing was just fine.
Love these new strats from PRS. 🖤
Guys, you are great!
There’s a similar difference between an SE 594 and a core 594. The core pickups are sweeter with a bigger dynamic range. But they’re amazingly close. Way closer than their prices. And the more compressed SE had a little more high mid bite. So it’s actually better for just rocking out.
Got the stone blue silver sky se ! LOVE IT. ❤
Even the great Philip Sayce has been playing a silver sky this year!
Literally the dream team and the best duo since the chuckle brothers! 😂
Love Andertons, love your shop and love your channel. Still like going to Mecca when I drive down from Lincolnshire.
Now, which colour do I go for?
That blue❤❤❤ I’m also seeing John @ the 02, hope to see you guys there🤘🔥
Definitely a difference in sound and feel. Couldnt tell you what the rosewood was but I could easily hear the midrange pop with the maple.
I'm tempted to wait for the stunning flamed tops that PRS are known for. I LOVE these maple necks though. They are so comfortable.
The solo tour was awesome I’m going to go again when he hits Chicago again in October
Mini John rocks😂😂😂 you Arena a great Team, thank you very much
I appreciate them doing the blue with a maple neck, so I have one more excuse to tell my wife when I get my second SE SS.
PRS - please do the signature model with the maple board but with solid inlays. They look much better than the outline version 😊
The colors 🤌🏻🤌🏻
Wow FINALLY I hear a difference between a $1,000 and $3,000. I noticed it when Pete started playing the gray ones. Maybe it's because it was clean not sure. But there definitely was a difference.
I wanna bet it's pickup height / windings.
@@void_snw I bet it's the winding. Gibson overwinds the Probucker to kill Epiphone tone. Funny thing is Rhett Shull did a side by side of a 1959 LP vs a new EPI. They sounded identical. I guess if you want that classic "59 tone just toss in a set of Probuckers😂😂😂
Beside the pickups the SE are acoustically a bit more dull sounding, the core give more ring to the notes… if it’s worth the price difference ?? Depends on what you think is important for your sound and what you play ..
Here in Houston Texas. I constantly see these up for resale. I don't know if people regret buying them, but man they're very common on resale
I bought my Moc sand silver sky at the end of 2019 and it took me until this year to get used to the neck after countless setup adjustments… never got it to really “click” for me until this year and it’s now my go-to over my Strat. Even with my dinky Fender Mustang GT40 amp it manages to sound good. Would loved to get my hands on a tone master Deluxe Reverb eventually.
I was thinking of getting one of these before but went with the PRS SE Custom 24-08 in Verde. I love love love that guitar. I really am liking the look of this new blue color though. Could be one in my future.
Finally the grey color in the SE line
That's weird. I really think the maple necked Silver Sky's had more "quack". Not only that but the last SE grey was my favourite for tones. Best Pete.
PETE= Purple. Would have won a bet! LOL. Cheers guys. Thanks much! Great show.
Been playing since the 60,s and I played one of the USA models (slightly used) and it was like wow, I bonded with it, had that special something. Alas , I still couldn't afford it. Not saying I don't love the SE version. But I'm telling you the USA is a killer.😊
I wish you could get the blue one with the rosewood board. I'm not a fan of maple boards, but that'd the only decent finish they've released for these so far.
These guitars are currently on sale for $679 at Guitar Center and most online retailers. Get one! You won’t regret it!
Gonna buy and relic a piano black.
This outro is the jam track I need
Ok, I will add it to the list for the next jam track album🤘
Nice kicks on Pete.
A study by Arthur Pate et al. at the Sorbonne in Paris showed that necks with rosewood or maple fretboards varied considerably in their resonance properties, more than the difference between the rosewood group and the maple group... even for nominally identical guitars (except for the fretboard wood) made in the same factory.
If you can hear the difference between a maple fretboard and a rosewood fretboard in the electric sound, which I'm skeptical about, it's more likely due to variations from guitar to guitar than the difference between a rosewood sound and a maple sound. It may be a matter of how dry the wood is, with a newer guitar sounding slightly different from an older one.
Given that, it's going to be hard to do a really good test of rosewood vs. maple. You need to swap necks on the same guitar, keeping the pickup height the same, and make sure what you're hearing isn't something stupid like the difference between a well-cut nut and a poorly-cut nut, or a neck that has dried for a few more months since its manufacture, or some odd difference in the pickups due to variations in manufacturing.
Warmoth does shoot-outs like this and confirms most of what you're saying
I already had the moon white with rosewood fingerboard but on Friday I saw the nylon blue with the maple neck and just had to get it too. Love ‘em both!
I traded in my rosewood dragon fruit for the maple nylon
@@philbergeron5306 I switched the necks out on mine. It just seemed to fit the moon white better to have a maple neck and to have rosewood on the nylon blue. Both guitars are awesome.
@@bubbasouth69 I bet the moon white with maple looks both beautiful and classic. I am glad I got the maple but I wish I kept the rosewood too, I generally don’t like rosewood fretboards on S type guitars but it played and sounded awesome. Btw, I am awaiting delivery on a SE DGT. I have become a PRS fanboy.
@@philbergeron5306How does the DGT’s coil split sound??
I had the Rosewood one before, was great, but Im good with 1 strat style guitar and my favorite is the regular strat vintage tone. Nash guitars nail that, but now downsizing and sold the Nash and got the Silver Sky Maple SE for the extra money.
And damn, Im liking it even more than before. Loos much nicer, got the grey one, maple just looks cool, I do dig the grey inlays and grey tuners. And sounds wonderful. Is not the vintage start tone, is more high fi sounding, but is nice, especially clean is so ebeautiful and clear. But the best is that it just plays so so nice, and the satin of the neck feels great. Just a joy to play this guitar.
Dont think will sell this one again, will get a Nash again but will keep this one now. Both guitars worth it to have, and each one have their own thing. But the silver sky is just so fantastic, PRS just knows how to do things. This year is the year I completely converted into a PRS fanboy hehe.
I love the purple one. I already have two Strats so I can’t justify a silver sky for a few years.
Good value for the price on the SE’s
Always Love you Guys and your reviews ... The Captains guitar playing has evolved into that of a a Great communicator, very tasty and poignant ... Pete as always is the Great Noodler ? ... I mean that in a good way ... capable of any style or tone at any time with a great sense of ease and flair. Love these Guitars but I am more than happy with my Fender and G&L "strats" . Also love the Sterling Cutlass ct-50's by Music Man and their Roasted maple necks for low $$$! Oh and its good to see Pete with an actual Purple guitar vs his Violet Tele! : ) !🙂
I have a mate who has perfect pitch and synesthesia. Super guitarist… you need him on here to tell you exactly what sounds like what.
Shots fired at the Cap'n by Pete here LOL
p.s. these strats with a PRS headstock seem alright.
I think the colors and their names would be better suited for decent American interior design. Maybe things got mixed up, and some home interior chain over there suddenly has curtains in the colors Sparrow Surf Blue, Sea Apple Green, Cheeky Lady Pink etc in their shop.
I heard an immediate difference when Pete picked up the black rosewood model. Maybe it’s the pickup height, but it sounded a lot better, more output possibly.
I think you are right, I feel it’s more likely to be pickup height…
I totally get and hear what Pete is talking about, I had 4 SE's before I bought my Core model. SE gives you the feel and tone on a budget but the Core version feels even better and the pickups have more clarity, depth and more dynamics. In my point of view it totally worth the extra. I'm going even further, I was a Fender guy before, now I don't have any, because this does the Fender thing even better to me.
I'm still a bit of a Fender guy because PRS doesn't make a Telecaster yet.
And the guitar...haha
Love that English humor.
Cheers
The grey one is basically the same colour as Clapton's original signature Fender. Or as they called it then, 'pewter.'
I’m gonna need mini John to come in my box if I buy one.
Tried a prs se j mayer last year ....mmm...not overwhelmed....in my local guitar shop here in the Netherlands you had every fender / fender custom shop/ prs you could want ....i ended buying a hand made .reliced 63 strat built here in Holland by Kauffmann ...easily on par with anything fender custom shop puts out...all for the price of a silver sky....not saying the silver sky is bad ..just if your after vintage tones check out local builders you might be surprised what you can afford...
Cool comparison - in my ears (through my Studio Monitors), the big one sounds a bit more sparkling, maybe in a bit less lower mids and stronger top end. I would choose the SE and invest the difference in great education ... ;) thanks! Well done video.
Now we can finally get that new Tiny Mayer and Tiny Elvis collaboration album!
Just how much respect does Danish Pete get ?? Sire with P90's after Pete requesting one, I see a Purple top L7 coming, and now after suggesting a purple Silver Sky SE at the end of the first review last year while showing off his custom color Amer. model, we have Summit Purple excellent work Pete P.S a purple MusicMan Cutlass would be nice
just so it's out there the mini comparison at 25:30 the se is on neck pickup and the American is on 4th position
As someone who is I find it hilarious that even the power of John (compels you!) Could not get Lee into the Dead.
Another great video mates. Love both the grey ones and of course the purple one for Pete!
loved that grey and rosewood fingerboard
I was lucky enough to win an SE Silver Sky ( Dragon Fruit ) . It’s a great guitar but never a £900 one . The neck profile is great -easy to play but feel is like a Yamaha Pacifica . It’s as Strat like as a Player but is lighter and easier to play . If you pay a bit more than the £900 asking price of the new
maple neck ones you’re up to DGT SE and McCarty 594 SE which look fabulous and sound great in any dems I’ve watched . Haven’t tried to make the trem float yet as I’ve enjoyed playing with the bridge flat down -that’s the description of the way it’s delivered as is JM preference-that’s an experiment for another day . Can’t imagine the core model is worth the extra money and I love the neck profile on the SE , so easy to play and bends are choke free .
love seeing Maple
but i miss seeing Yellow on Silver Sky....
and yeap now they offer SILVER or Gray maybe we could called that
Fun video, guys!
Lee please tell paul to manufacture left handed se,s.
When will John Mayer pay a visit to andertonsTv? That will be epic.
Lighters in the air for the best youtube entertainment today.
I can easily hear how maple is brighter and rosewood has more bottom end and punch.
To my ears the Silver Sky Core USA has warmer tone sounding pickups. But, both models still sound great.
That jam in the end deserves a 4 minute track
I really like the maple neck. I’m currently playing a fender American standard Strat. How do these stack up against them, I’m looking for something a little warmer ,
i think i’m gonna buy this new prs se and switch the neck with my prs se polar blue. it’s gonna be cool isn’t it?
Just bought a dragonfruit & a 594 se mccarty,both great guitars
Much better value too
Wood does make a difference, just ask any builder. Also, I do not feel you can compare them by one person playing the guitars and someone else listening. It's all in how it feels to play the instrument, how it vibrates and how it responds to you while playing it. But yeah different cuts of wood will have different qualities.
My biggest regret is the awful painful loss of my much loved Strat that i experienced about 8 years ago. technically a parts caster that i built back before it became outragously expensive. I bought a avri 57 neck from the U.S and when i unwrapped it i discovered the neck date matched my birthday, as well the carve perfectly matching my handle!. I bought authentic U.S avri everything down to the neck plate with the 'v' serial number and a Ocean Turquoise 57_62 avri body. It was completed with a full kinman woodstock plus system that was sublime. It was the most beautiful looking, sounding and playing guitar ive ever seen and that was echoed without exception by everyones who played it. Suffice it to say i was involuntarily parted from my baby and suffered serious emotional damage. However. I have now been blessed by the release of the new vintera 2! My problem is the nylon blue prs does complicate matters a tad. Now, i do love the v neck with the vintage radius so in short, which do i buy?!! Is the neck on the prs very different? Im torn...
I think he touched the back plate on the blind test lol he is good at guessing for sure but I thought I caught him do it lol
The rosewood absorbs some high end frequencies from the strings so it sounds more flat. maple boards dont abosorb those same higher end frequencies from the strings so we hear them as brighter.
very nice looking guitars, but dunno somehow I'm not too blown by it's sound. i guess I'll have to try on my own set up and see what it sounds like.
If Nylon Blue was Dodgem Blue I would have ordered one already. Close but not close enough
Yep. This is too green especially in the PRS video of it
These seem like great guitars. I wish there wasn't a big signature on the headstock. It's a little thing, just being honest.
When we first start trying different guitars we have the internet forums and other people’s opinions in mind…. But once you’ve played lots
of the same guitars over a period of years I think most guitar enthusiasts realise that even identical guitars can be quite different. Nobody needs to argue rules that some sound this way or that because when you try each guitar in your own hands, you can really dislike one but love another. Take Noel Gallagher’s comment in the latest TPS video… He had two ES355 guitars with successive serial numbers made same day. One was a dog and the other is one of the best guitars he has ever played 🤷♂️
I know this is supposed to be about the maple necks but that gray one with the rosewood looks really good.
I have a dragonfruit one from last year but now I want the blue maple one too 😢
I can't believe Danish Pete would stoop so low as to play the purple one!
Not to be a hater but all the coloured finishes look like toys to me. If they added a subtle sparkle to them they'd look a million times better. It's black or grey for me
There is a slight difference in tone but it's very slight!
When there is no one else if you suck you are still the best.
up the hammners, cool vid guys, ps i prefer a maple neck.
Purchased an SE Maple Fingerboard in Overland Grey today, now I'm wondering if I should've got a blue one 😕
I actually heard the difference between the expensive an inexpensive guitar today. I guess that shows how well made Squiers are made to give u the closest experience to an expensive Fender Stratocaster. PRS needs to up their game to make a mid range guitar sound better than a cheap guitar. To me it doesn't sound any better than a Bullet
27:00 $800 US is where the ROI curve peaks and starts to flatten out. Everything beyond that is just a personal preference type thing the a player just wants to have. Not a good or bad thing, just a preference. The only bad time is when a manufacturer wants more than $800 US for a guitar that does not even reach that point on the curve. Then you are just buying a name. There are a lot of those out there now.
I have both a USA and an SE Silver Sky and they are easily distinguishable by both feel and sound. The USA one just sounds more solid and the SE has way more output - hardly surprising since the pickups are 1k hotter.
Ahh that explains a lot, the sound is way off. Too dark for single coils imo. I actually think Squier does a better job of sounding like a Fender than these SEs do of sounding like a proper silver sky. That said, I still think the normal PRS SE are probably the best big name beginner/intermediate guitars you can buy.
They somehow remind me about some of like the first clapton signature strats
the somehow is possibly the similarity to the pewter grey fenders?
