    You seem to have a good attitude about the dead trees. It does happen in our hobby.... but you live and learn and try again. For me that cork bark elm looked beautiful.... that hurts. I do think as we all progress towards show size pots, which are shallow, it makes things pretty precarious. I think you mentioned that maybe you went to shallow.... and I would probably agree maybe. I've had some weird deaths before that can't always be explained.

      Spot on. As we try to take our trees to higher levels we definitely have to be more aware and attentive to their inreased needs. Thanks for commenting.

    Did you fall over? It can happen at your/our age 😁
    Amongst my casualties (so far) this year:
    A young copper beech shohin.
    A larch forest which was fine last year, not at all happy this year.
    A kabudachi (clump style) Japanese maple Atropurpureum which I probably moved from a basket too early.
    A trident maple that I was ground layering. Crispy and dead.
    Under observation/on critical life support: my micro dwarf azalea.
    Dawn redwood likes to have “moist” feet - it has a spongy trunk and thirsty roots. I keep mine on a drip tray which helps. 👍
    Hang on in there Xavier. Hope you make it through to September and onwards.

    If you wet the bark of the hearnbeam, you can quickly tell whether the branch is dead or alive. For your big zelkova (ELM?) you might want to try and put it in a translucent bag,increaing humidity aiding recovery chances.

    • @XaviersBonsaiRetreat
      @XaviersBonsaiRetreat  Před 2 lety +2

      Not heard of the bag solution but in part 2 I show you the way I have gone. What happens when I wet the bark? Does a little man pop out of the trunk and tell me everyhting is fine??? :)

      I know I dont have a large garden but the amount required and the securing arrangements needed due to the high winds make that one a little difficult. Perhaps when I have 1000subs and the money starts rolling in I could then get contractors in to do it for me :)

    when my trees get like that i submerge them in water, most bounce back! however some die back, and you'll have to start again. but its better than looosing the whole tree. it weakens the blow and could make for a better tree, occasionally a good accidents. i've a hawtorn with die back, and was gonna chuck it, but it shot from the roots. now i have with timea raft style hawtorn tree. so dont be too fast with them! p.s im not foreign, just really bad english and i got some nice tree..!

    Some lush green,some dry 😭that is the consequence of maintaining bonsai.Need continuous & consistent attentions,even then not does't guarantee 100 % of all live .
    🤔But there must be a cause for the tree's death🤔
