Even with upgrade costs, better than the new ones coming out these days. Upgraded to 2tb and 32gb ram. Batteries still at 70%. So those might be next. Great video showcasing the little beast.

It’s funny your i5 CPU performed better than my i7-8650U by 300 points (R23) even though my CPU has a better cooling system (dual heat pipe which only comes with dedicated GPU). My laptop stutters a lot in Minecraft and other games compared to you, and the display is not even Full HD!. I think I lost the silicon lottery. I’m still thankful I own one of the greatest laptops out there, I didn’t buy it for gaming in the first place. I appreciate your video 👍.
I have exactly the same t480 as you. your instance probably has poor CPU and GPU cooling. you need to check the density of pressing the planes of the copper radiator to the planes of the CPU and GPU crystals. stamping of copper plates can have small defects in the form of protrusions, which makes it impossible to press the cooling radiator and chips. it is necessary to align the planes as much as possible, by the method of grinding and polishing, constantly applying, to compare the contacting planes. one more nuance, the temperature sensor, which in the form of a wire, is pressed against the side plate of the radiator, reacts too slowly to the rise in temperature, and it needs to be moved to the heat pipes. then the fan will react faster, increasing the speed earlier than now. thus cpu throttling will not be as critical. A485 is an interesting alternative to the T480. It's a solid choice if you prefer AMD's cpus. However, keep in mind that the A485 might have some minor differences in battery life and thermals compared to the T480.

I highly recommend undervolting the CPU of your Thinkpad T480. Previously, my i5-8350U scored 3300 in 3 passes, now it can get 3900 for 3 passes, or over 4k for a single run. (Cinebench R23)

Personally, I'm fine with my CPU running at max temps under load. I got a 4234 Cinebench multi-core score with 4 passes this morning after trying out a bit more undervolting.
No, you misunderstood. The temperatures are high before undervolting. Even in the video you can see that the temperatures on stock settings are very high - 90 degrees Celsius during gaming.

It depends on your preferences. The X390 is basically a 13-inch T490. However, it is important to note that the X390 has RAM soldered in, so it is not easy to upgrade.

Yes, it will lower the temperature. That's why I've recently become interested in CPU undervolting and I'm planning to do it on my T480.

My T480 has a very worn out battery and lasts about 2-3 hours. A new one should last about 7 hours.

X390 Yoga is a great laptop! I have X1 Yoga 1st gen (i5 6th gen) and it is a great laptop for browsing the internet and watching YT.
