- In this vlog Im in the mainland and going back to moturiki. It's my two uncles birthday so Josese called me in the morning to pick up a birthday cake from his sister who lives in suva on my way back to the island so we can celebrate my two uncles birthday later that day.
Little did I know that taking a birthday cake all the way to the village will come with its struggles. Due to bad weather on that day Jekobe told us to go to waidalice river so he can pick us up from there as it is easier.
When we got on the boat then problems started to happen. The engine couldn't start after a few tries we could finally head on to moturiki. Later on the journey his engine couldn't start again and we had to call for a pick up. The pick up came and on the way to the village, the pick ups boat engine got into problems, so it ended up with Suli dragging the boats all the way to Navuti Village.
This is one of the way Moturiki Islanders go and get birthday cakes when they live on a remote island if they can't bake it themselves. They go to Levuka if its not Levuka then the mainland.

Engines malfunctioning in the midddle of the crossing can be hazardous. Older folk in the village may still recall that time (around 35 years ago) when a boat (just a little larger than yours) lost power after departing Levuka, and quickly swept out into the vast Pacific Ocean. All aboard were presumed lost at sea. Fortunately many months later the boat miraculously ended up in the Solomon Islands. Everyone had survived. The boat was called "Our Lady Of Fatima" and belonged to Sing Mar, who owned a bakery in Levuka.

My brother I suggest you guys use a cooler,put some ice in the cooler and place a tray or something before putting the cake inside the cooler.putting the cake in the cooler preserves it from melting.my mum always does that when ever there's some ones birthday at our village.we travel like you guys do.but we travel for 6hours from town to the village.so thats how we do it in my village in PNG🇵🇬🇵🇬
