    I was there too Springfield & Mountaineer Field will never be as loud as it was that day for as long as the stadium still stands. This squad wasn't WVU's best team but they had balls & kept finding ways to win. 11-0. Then the Sugar Bowl disaster. But on the way knocked off Miami, a solid Virginia Tech, BC was one of the best teams in the nation, Syracuse still mattered. Season full of close games. I was a freshman back then.

    I’m a very loyal Mountaineer fan and have been for 50+ years but some of y’all are disillusioned. You have to beat the team they put in front of you no matter which team it is. You don’t get to pick what you think is a better matchup. If you want to expect a championship then you have to beat whoever they match you up with which brings up another point. As much as I love Don Nehlen and what he has done for West Virginia football he just didn’t prepare his teams well during the long breaks for bowl games. We lost several Bowl games to teams less talented than ours. Let’s Gooo Mountaineers!!!

    West Virginia originally was invited to play in the Cotton Bowl against the SWC Champion Texas AM, but they turned it down to get a bigger paycheck to play in the Sugar Bowl against the SEC Champion Florida. West Virginia Head Coach Don Nehlen admitted that was a terrible mistake. West Virginia would had a much better chance to compete against a much more slower physical team like Texas AM on grass than against an athletic speed burner team like Florida on artificial turf.

    • @Gondo60
      @Gondo60 Před 10 měsíci +1

      It has nothing to do with a paycheck. We had a team meeting and voted on it. We figured if they wouldn’t let us play for a National Championship we might as well go to New Orleans and have a good time.

    WVU needs to bring back these basic uniforms. Why they ever went away from these is beyond me. These were classics, the stripes on the pants need to come back. I hate the constantly changing uniforms every couple of years, like it’s a fashion show.

    WVU would have beaten either Nebrasky or FSU. They ended up getting the worst matchup possible. WVU completely got screwed out of a chance to play for a National Championship in 93.

      @@johnwaffleh2p70 Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't that same Nebraska team beat the Jesus out of West Virginia in the first game of the very next season? I seem to remember the game being over before halftime. If you couldn't even compete with that Nebraska team in 1994, what makes you think you could have beat them in 1993? You do realize it took Florida State's best team ever to beat them, right? And only by two points while playing in their own home state. No way West Virginia keeps it within three touchdowns.

    • @WVFreebyrd
      @WVFreebyrd Před 5 lety +4

      Mountaineer Field has lost a lot of that personality. I think a lot of reasons go into it...……..the common fan has been largely priced out, a decreasing population, in stadium fans now composed more of corporate ticket buyers vs. the common guy, HDTV keeps a lot of people home now, a mediocre product on the field for quite a few years, the disappearance of the traditional rivals of VT, PITT and yes, even Miami, the prohibition of banners in the stadium, teams and style of play that do not reflect the hard nosed physical style of football that we used to see back in those days, etc.
