You're right: she's living the songs she sings. Her storytelling on top of the beauty of her voice is amazing.

Thank you for reacting to this hiden treasure. I think that this performance is as beautiful and powerful as Emma's Voila performance. It deserves a lot more hits and attention❤❤.

Her talent is amazingly good. She got to the man seated behind her. He couldn’t hold the tears back. This is in respect of the American soldiers that freed that area of Europe in WW2.

Beautifully done and very emotional! Did you notice the man wearing the headphones behind and to Emma's left? He was trying to keep it together throughout Emma's performance and was finally reduced to tears which he wiped quickly away! I completely understand why...Emma tugging at our heartstrings once again!

"Voilà" did put Emma on the map (so to speak), but she has much more in store. No, she does not have as many video's as Angelina Jordan and Lucy Thomas have, but Emma sings different genres and does that very well. And now she is on World tour with André Rieu and performs for thousands of people, almost every week (this week she was in Wembley, London...). Not bad for a 16 year old.... Thanks to André Rieu this girl is living her dream this year and who knows what the future has in store for her. And this performance on 5 Mai 2023 was very emotional for many people: it was at the American Graveyard in Margraten (NL) where American victims from the second World War are burried. In the Netherlands there are special events, every year in the first week of Mai (memorialize the victims on 4 Mai at 8pm with 2 minutes of silence in the entire country, celebrate liberation on 5 Mai).

Not particularly an easy song to sing in the first place. Did not know the song. But Emma did it with heart and soul! Incredible. Truly
incredible. Thanks a lot for your reaction.

Greetings from Ireland, and thank you for a reaction that clearly required a lot of thought, Emma well and truly got to you in the way that she delivered that song, and as you saw, and commented on she broke the sound engineer behind her, and at the end of the concert, after the duet, they left the stage to a standing ovation, and given this was very much not a concert about performances, but a concert of remembrance, it said a lot about how moved people there were by the way she delivered the songs she sang.
I am thinking that the reason Emma can put so much emotion into her singing is because she has been well and truly through the emotional mill herself because of her illness, and all the issues she's had to face from her first memories, having been on tube feeding from 9 months, she's had to cope with so many issues that are deeply emotional, being unable to participate in so many aspects of growing up and playing, they've been denied her by the requirement to carry the equivalent of a boat anchor around with her for 22 hours a day, and with the problems she faced with her delayed growth, and limited stamina, there are times when she has to use a wheelchair to avoid problems, as her reserves of energy are restricted compared to her peers, and that's without even mentioning the deeply emotional aspects of being unable to share in family times together when partaking of a meal for something like a special occasion, her illness effectively excludes her from properly participating in all of those sorts of times, and I know from some interviews she's given, it's been a hard fight to come to terms with the limitations that gastorparesis has imposed on her life, but the reality is that she is a fighter, a warrior, and has absolutely determined that she will NOT let her illness define her, and she is absolutely delivering on that.
Roger has already mentioned two songs that are worth looking at, and I would concur completely with those recommendations, Emma delivered an amazing performance with April Darby in Amsterdam, in front of the Dutch Royal family, it was an incredibly powerful performance, and she absolutely nailed it.
The other performance with Phil B is also very strong, and even more impressive is that it was 3 years ago, she was still learning so much at that time, and having seen her live in Dublin only a week ago, I wasn't expecting her to be able to improve on her performance of Voila from 9 months eariler, but I can assure you, she has very much managed to improve, her performance on the Friday night in Dublin was sublime, she's not changed it much, but there are little subtle tweaks throughout, and they all add to making what was already an amazing performance even stronger, I didn't think it was possible, but experience and the determination she has to be the best meant that we had an absolutely wonderful evening, and Emma was very much the highlight of a superb concert.
A more pop type song is a short recording at home, without an audience,

Another fun song comes from her appearance in Andre's Christmas show, 'All I want for Christmas is you', and again, with a full orchestra behind her, she delivers a beautiful rendering.
    czcams.com/video/FDrLhS-1QK4/video.html
A lovely touch by Andre, in the middle of her slot in Athens, after she'd sung Voila, he announces that it's her birthday, and then the entire audience of 13500 people sings Happy Birthday, then goes off script and sings a version in Greek, before she sings a Michael Jackson song, 'Heal the world'

People who know me will know what's coming, and I make no apologies for repeating it on a regular basis,
A closing heartfelt plea to everyone reading these comments.
Emma's foundation can be found at gastrostars.nl
If at all possible, please join me in making a (regular) donation to her foundation, to enable them to help patients like Emma, and research this awful disease, and hopefully find a cure.
At the moment, they are a small group, and one of their main people is a surgeon who has a lot of experience in dealing with gastroparesis, and she is not only a surgeon, but also suffers from the same disease herself, to the extent that as a result of her condition worsening, she's had to leave her role in the hospital, and she is now dedicated to the foundation, and working to help find possible new treatments, or even better the cure that will free people like Emma to live a more normal life, rather than be tied to the feeding pumps for so many hours every day.
It would be wonderful news to hear that they have been able to change the outlook for Emma and others, it would be tragic if Emma were unable to continue to sing like she does, while she looks stunning on stage, her stamina is not good, so it is a very delicate balance to maintain her health, it would be so good to hear that the situation has been changed by the work the foundation are doing, Emma would then be free to spend more time doing what she loves so dearly.

While I agree the sound quality wasn’t great, it was a blind reaction I had no way of knowing. But her emotions, and that of the sound engineer behind her, made me glad I watched it.

  • @RogerClutton
    @RogerClutton Před 21 dnem +1

A perfect reaction, thanks. It is hard to describe where the emotional delivery comes from. Like you say it’s very much intrinsic in her voice, but when you look at her there is no doubting she is immersed in the meaning of the song from her own perspective. She is so genuinely living it, not choreographed and with her own teenage voice; not mimicking an adult.
Something a bit more ‘popy’ as you say might be ‘When You Believe’ originally a duet between Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. Emma sang this with April Darby (aged 32, so double Emma’s age but it seems less mature singers cannot compete with Emma). The performance was from a couple of weeks ago at the 5th May Freedom Concert in Amsterdam, watched by the King and Queen of The Netherlands who are shown in the video. It is difficult to state how big a deal it is to be asked to sing at this annual event. It is clear Emma has become something on a National Treasure in NL.
    czcams.com/video/YG8WV1GFt_c/video.htmlsi=_zqdc5BiHLDs5E1B
Emma also sang Shallow with Phil B when she was just turned 13 at her first dedicated stage concert. Again with her own young voice and there is no doubting her natural talent.

@@RetroToMetroReactionsAn interesting side note; Emma sang at a sold out Wembley Arena in London last night so around 15000, a second Wembley date is added for this Saturday, also sold out. I am going to see her at Birmingham’s NEC Arena tomorrow night; that’s sold out too; 12500 there. Right now she is on stage in Leeds, 13700 there. So 55000 will have seen Emma sing live this week, judging by her Instagram and interviews with orchestra members and Andre Rieu she does this as relaxed as if she was going to the park to feed the ducks. Andre Rieu calls Emma ‘a stage beast’ because the stage is her natural domain where she comes alive. 😀❤️

I don’t care what the so called sound professionals say, the headset mic sounds so much better. It’s away from her mouth. These have always sounded not so good if you are too close to them which most will teach them to do not that way. You will notice when she goes up and louder, how she moves away from the mic, it’s much better.
